How to become saved
Been meaning to post this Oct of last year. I am a Christian. Most people would never know that. I was saved when I was 11 years old thanks to one of my teachers explaining to me how it worked. I used to fear death and intuitively knew being good didn't cut it. Why was I deserving for being "good". This is also the source of my strength and my confidence. Posting this for anyone that is curious and wants to know what it takes to be saved. Thought it was a good time since yesterday was Easter.

1. Realize you are a sinner and this separates you from God who is completely righteous

Romans 3:23
"For all have sinned,
and come short of the glory of God;"

Romans 3:10-12
"as it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
there is none that understandeth,
there is none that seeketh after God.
They are all gone out of the way,
they are together become unprofitable;
there is none that doeth good, no, not one."

Habakkuk 1:12-13
"Art thou not from everlasting,
O Lord my God, mine Holy One?
we shall not die.
O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgment;
and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction.
Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil,
and canst not look on iniquity:
wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously,
and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?"

Psalm 145:17
"The Lord is righteous in all his ways,
and holy in all his works."

There is no such thing as good person. You are not a good person.

The punishment for sin is death/Hell

We would live forever if we were not sinful. God is righteous and MUST punish sin.

Deuteronomy 32:4
"He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment:
a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he."

Romans 6:23
"For the wages of sin is death..."

Amos 2:4
"Thus saith the Lord;
For three transgressions of Judah,
and for four,
I will not turn away the punishment thereof;
because they have despised the law of the Lord,
and have not kept his commandments,
and their lies caused them to err,
after the which their fathers have walked:"

All sin will be punished:

*either through Jesus' death on the cross
*or by you going to Hell

John 3:36
"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life:
and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life;
but the wrath of God abideth on him."

Jesus' death on the cross paid for our sins. Jesus was pure and never sinned once. Because of this he was able to take your sin and all sin past, present and future on him. The spotless lamb of God. The perfect scarifice.

A. The physical body of Jesus was required to pay for this price.

Romans 5:10
"For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son,
much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life."

Ephesians 1:7
"[JESUS CHRIST], in whom we have redemption through his blood,
the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;"

Leviticus 17:11
"For the life of the flesh is in the blood:
and I [GOD] have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls:
for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul."

Isaiah 53:5
"But he [JESUS CHRIST] was wounded for our transgressions,
he was bruised for our iniquities:
the chastisement of our peace was upon him;
and with his stripes we are healed."

B. God the Son took the full wrath of God the Father for us.

Isaiah 53:10
"Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief:
when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin..."

John 18:11
"Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath:
the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?"

Revelation 14:10a
"The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation..."

1 Peter 2:24
"[Jesus Christ], who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree..."

3. Believe that Jesus, God incarnate, died for you and rose from the grave over coming death

1 Corinthians 15:3-4
"For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received,
how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"

Romans 5:8
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that,
while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

Matthew 12:40
"For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly;
so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."

Romans 4:22-25
"And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;
but for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;
who was delivered for our offenses, and was raised again for our justification."

God is not dead.

4. Place your faith in Jesus' sacrifice as the only thing that can pay for your sins

Romans 3:24-25
"Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood,
to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;"

Ephesians 2:8-9
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast."

Romans 5:9
"Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him."

Romans 5:11
"And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
by whom we have now received the atonement."

5. Trust in Jesus alone to forgive and save you

John 14:6
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

Ephesians 1:12-13
"that we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
in whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation:
in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,"

Romans 5:1
"Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:"

Romans 6:23
"For the wages of sin is death;
but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Colossians 2:13
"And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh,
hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;"

6. Repent

All you have to do now is say a prayer that you whole heartedly mean. Something like "God I know I am a sinner. But I ask for forgiveness through the grace and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ who died for me that I may know eternal life. I accept Him into my heart and he washes away my sin. Please come into my heart, cleans me and save me from myself."

That is all.

I'm glad you put that. I was first saved at 4, but was not close to the Lord in high school or college. I faced challenges that I wasn't ready to handle, and it's only been in the last few years that I've really grown as a Christian and really want people to know it.

Happy to share as people know the basic concept. Everyone knows the phrase "Jesus Saves" but they don't know what it really means and that there's so much more to it. Wow 4. That's a young age to understand such difficult concepts. I'm glad you've grown in the Lord since then. I don't feel the need to talk about it so much. I read the Bible twice through when I was in 8th or 8th grade and the morality stuck with me. In my heart as they say. I prefer to lead through example. People ask my why I do so well in life or other things like that then I will tell. I have had a friend on DA asking me a lot of questions, important questions, so I decided to post this for her and anyone else that might ask me in the future.

I think 4 was the age when I really wanted to be saved, but I recomitted at 8 when I understood a little more. I admit that I still have trouble with it because it is pretty abstract, and I'm such a concrete thinker I wonder how I can hold my head up from all the concrete in it sometimes.

I'm on my 5th read through of the Bible in 5 years. Something different jumps out at every read.

Your comment made me chuckle. I like it when you say cute things like that.

I like that now when I remember something I can look it up online fairly easily and get whole chapters for what I was thinking of.
