Allure of the Seas Day 1
Ok so I think I have internet now. I bought a very good package for the whole week for one device. If it is unlimited wifi for 6 days then this is the best deal yet from what I have had to pay in previous years. Anyway despite that I still won't be on very much. Probably just once at night to make a post and read comments. I'll check my email once in a while.

Ok so crazy first day. We checked out of our hotel room around noon. I finally got to see some cute millipedes and love the curly tailed lizards as always. We had lunch at Red Lobster which was very nice. I enjoyed my fish meal but especially the potato soup was the best. We had some time to kill and found a Sound Advice. Man long time since we've seen a store for electronics only. So nice they had show rooms for home theaters and car stereos. It was like being back in the 90s. As nerds we really enjoyed that. Stopped for a while at a book store but then headed out. Getting on the ship at the terminal was pretty hassle free.

We got our room and were very happy. Our room is one of the fave things about cruising. With a balcony we get our one private view of the ocean and that is so worth it. All cruises have a mandatory safety meeting where they show you where your exits are to lifeboats and how to use life vests. And this is where the craziness began. At the end out captain dismissed us and said we would be arriving the next morning in Nassau, staying only a few hours then heading out to St. Thomas. Our cruise is supposed to go to St. Maarten, San Juan and Labadee so the panic that ensued among our group was great. A total WTF moment. "Nassau?" "Is this the right ship." "We're not going to Nassau." I can only imagine the chaos at the customer help desk so the captain came back on the intercom and said he messed up he meant two days at sea and we were going to St. Maarten. He must have read last week's schedule. That's the itinerary we took back in 2014. Great safety meeting panicking the 5000 passengers haha. Imagine if that had happened though what a major screw up that would be. Everyone's probably prepaid all the shore excursions and that would sure mess everything up.

They don't make a lot of intercom calls after that first meeting so I was glad and hoped it was over. I went to my balcony and was looking out when I noticed the sun was coming in our room. WHY was the sun coming into the room? We're on the port side supposedly heading east so the setting sun should have been behind us. As soon as I told Chris about the sun the captain comes on the intercom and says there's been a medical emergency and we are heading back to Ft. Lauderdale and have to dock for a short time. The next thing I thought of was why not use the helicopter pad? It's much faster, costs less and we'd lose less time. Well no problem for us. We're easy going but I know a few other passengers were annoyed by all this. I figured I'd get pics perhaps I'd get to see them wheel the person off the ship and onto the ambulance.

Here's what it looked like on the radar. This is our fave channel to watch, only channel we watch, as it shows where the ship is, the wind, our speed, and one of our faves the ocean depth.

The emergency vehicles were waiting. I wasn't able to film them doing anything else because they drove under the ship out of sight of where I was standing. I heard some really old lady passed out. She looked sick when she was on board and really bad. That's what I heard some people talking about. So then after that we finally headed out again. No fan fare from beach goers this time as now it was dark.

Got this huge rainbow coming down right on the largest building as we leave Ft. Lauderdale.

And leaving again. This time we actually made it out to sea though we were 3 hours late. It's been very good since then. I think the captain will get made fun of about the Nassau thing from here out by the guests.

Ok got to post day two later tonight.

Great to know about your first day on the cruise, though that was rather odd about what was going on.

It was an interesting start. The whole going to Nassau thing was funny.

Oh wow what an odd 1st day. Well other than the delays and the Nassau thing I'm glad everything worked out.

It was very strange but funny too. Everyone was joking around about Nassau after that.

I'm playing catch up, here.

What an WTF moment that must have been with the captain fluff up. Oh well, all's well that ends well. What a pain about tat old lady. maybe she was one of those that live on these ships. Wow, 5,000? That's a large number! A very big ship. Not my cup of tea but I probably would get used to it if there was good noise insulation between rooms (and no smoke pollution from smokers).

Cool that you got such a good internet deal. I think they are getting better and better in general as time goes on.

That's an awesome photo of the rainbow going down to the biggest building! Someone here recently took one that ended at our one bank and asked if it was the pot at the end of the rainbow, lol :)

Awesome photo of the lights in the buildings at twilight as you left for real the second time.

Your fave channel to watch would also be Old Flame's! He loves looking at the radar and synoptic charts to keep an eye on the weather :)

Well, have a great holiday, and I'll catch up on your other posts now!

That captain's statement about going to Nassau was very funny. Glad it all went well though. This ship is literally a floating city. But you know it's 5000 passengers and 2000 crew but it's so big you don't notice. Like any big city you have to know when to avoid rush hour. We went to the places that not many were in. We mostly used the stairs and not the elevators. We didn't go to the pools. If it was formal night we ate at the burger place. Pools are empty on sea days. Things like that.

I saw a few rainbows on this trip. Yep I thought about the pot of gold a lot. Especially when one went into the ocean and thought there's pirate treasure way deep underwater.

Yes interesting leaving twice to two views. We love that channel just watching the progress of the ship.

Wow, 2,000 crew as well? That means you must have been pretty well looked after.

Yeah, good strategy to avoid the rush hours. I don't like lots of people around either.

What a good thought: pirate treasure under the water! I guess with all the showers you would have more chance of seeing rainbows.

Definitely a channel worth watching!
