Art and Day Trip Orlando
I has been so hot the last few days. Gosh this summer is going to suck I can tell. I have had to water the plants more than usual. The other day my luffas and gourds were so wilty. Even the sunflowers that can take a lot of sun were looking sad. I've been wearing my kayaking clothes in the garden to protect myself from the sun even for the little time I'm out there watering. I used to turn the AC on around 1:30pm. Now it's been coming on around 10:30am. I'm trying to hold out this morning as I like to run it as little as possible to save on our electric bill. But sometimes I can't despite being very heat tolerant. It's 10:30 now and I'm already thinking of starting it. It's just nasty out. Gosh I wish this would be like another 2013. That summer was great because it rained almost everyday so the sun never had a chance to come out and get hot. Sunshine right after a rain is terrible here in Florida. It's not like up north that rain cools everything. If it rains it better keep raining til sunset and that's what that year was like. The nepenthes loved that.

Next week I think I will order that budgie coin. I'll wait for the next pay check. Need to rebuild my savings.

Ok got a drawing to share. It's not new as I drew it weeks ago. I just haven't done anything with it yet.

I like this and I don't. Would have been better if George's leg had been out to his right more. Everything's too centered but that's the restriction I had on the page. But though that would look better I don't think you'd be able to see his spur from that perspective which is the whole point of this. I have been wanting to show how he uses his spurs in a fight. They are very deadly things. Remember he has the catch phrase "These thing's ain't just for kicking horses." Well this is what he means. George has a powerful and nasty back roundhouse kick. I might be able to position the victim to the right more and perhaps this will all look better with the motion blurs too. I can't really know how something will look until I color it. But over all I love George's pose and this does show what a brutal fighter he is.

So last Tues I went out with badcowboy to Orlando. I've started a new little project. Kind of a life list. Uhaul makes these trucks with art work of the 50 US states and 13 Canadian provinces. So I've been trying to get photos and collect all 63. The photos don't have to be perfect. I can get them on the road which is hard or if I see trucks parked. Well she started to do this too and she took me out to the places where she saw the ones she got. So I got the ones I was missing. That's so cool. Currently I'm at 33 of 63. After that we went to a mineral star called Black Market Minerals.

You can see out to the side they have one of those panning stations.

Here it is. So nice. They had petrified wood sitting around which was cool.

A close up of the station. Very nice. The minder reminds me a bit of Stinky Pete from Toy Story 2.

I got a close up of the water. I like a high shutter speed to slow everything down. Not a fan of blurring water effect.

They had these huge quartz crystals. Gosh I have always wanted one of these. I became a fan of quartz after becoming a fan of SpaceGodzilla in the 90s. I've always wanted a statue of him with real quartz.

Amethyst is just purple quartz. Chemical formula is the same SiO2. Silicon dioxide. I like the clear/white quartz best.

We then went to a knife shop and I picked up this wicked knife scorpion. I loved it. Makes me think of Alladrich, Gallemotch's servant. I wish they'd make a centipede version of this. That would be so awesome.

I hadn't planned to spend any money. Orlando is the biggest tourist trap where people spend their money on junk that amuses them for the moment. But well this was different and I had to have it. I've never seen a knife ornament like this.

Sticking with the metal theme. Here's my metal bullet collection so far. Or as I like to call them, my Bullet Family. From the left 4 oz Titanium 50 BMG, 8 oz coper 50 BMG, 2 oz Silver .308, 5 oz 12 gauge silver, silver colt .45 1 oz, 5/8 oz 9mm silver and silver 1/4 oz .22 long rifle. All solid .999 pure.

Badcowboy had all these cool chenille plants growing in her yard. She gave me some cuttings. I planted them in this basket and hope they'll take root and get healthier. I'd love for them to fill out the whole basket and make nice long chenille flowers.

I got to meet her two cats Taylor and Daisy. I was told that Daisy isn't friendly and hides and she doesn't like to be touched. Well I'm not a cat person and I don't chase people's cats around either. I wouldn't like that if I were an introverted cat and most are. Because I don't chase cats around trying to pet them I'm the person they usually go to and not the cat person. Chris tries to pet cats and they run from him. Well I was happy when I was sitting at a chair and Daisy came up to me and licked my leg. I was very amused by that. I'd probably be a good cat owner since they seem like a low maintenance pet but they just aren't my thing. On that note I still really want a doberman. I want a black female. Like many things this is one of those dreams I've had for years. Like I've been wanting my truck for years and like I want to visit certain places in the world for years.

Then we went out again. We went to a store called At Home. It was a home decor similar to Micheal's or Hobby Lobby. I liked it but there was less focus on art than those other two. Saw some decently priced metal trellises there. Perhaps even some colorful milk crates for our kayaks. We ate at a place the sold gyros. I love gyros. But they were ok. I did enjoy my meal just not the loud TV they had with talk show. Was hard to think and have a conversation. By the end of the day I was tired and Chris met us at a CVS and took me home. He loved the scorpion and also the blue dragon shirt I bought for him.

I'll post all the kayak stuff in another post. One last thing I want to talk about. I've been thinking a lot about this and still not sure if this is the right decision to make. I'm thinking about selling my big camera. I know I just got it and though I got a great deal I feel like I'm being a traitor not keeping it. I don't know. I like it. The camera itself is awesome. But I hate the lens. I really want the Canon L series 100-400mm zoom lens and I'm thinking about selling the camera just to get the lens. The lens costs more than my camera and lens combined. So then I'd have an expensive lens I can't use til I get a camera body. The camera body I have is nice. It's an EOS 60D. But it has one fatal flaw. In video mode it doesn't have auto focus. From what I found out DSLR's until recently have not had auto focus. WTF? Why not? If you auto focus in photo mode why not in video mode? Why do video cameras and even cheap point and shoot cameras have auto focus in video but a fancy DSLR is lacking here? I suck at manual focus and though it looks focused on the screen it's not when you get it on the computer. Imagine shooting a whole movie out of focus? I wanted to this camera because it could do everything. But apparently it can't. Also my lens is an 18-135mm. Mid range which is an area I never shoot in. I mostly do macro (bugs and flowers close) or birds in flight which requires a long distance lens. This lens does terrible macro. Actually it can't do it. And it's not long enough for my bird photography. Chris's camera is better for that. So I'm frustrated by all this. I could sell the lens though I wouldn't get much for it. A smaller lens would be more affordable and I'd at least get my macros. So an 18-55 would be ideal. But then there's still the video problem. I'd get more money if I sold everything of course. Camera, lens, bag and accessories. The new 70D does have auto focus on video and a longer buffer for rapid fire photos. They say it's a great bird in flight camera. So I have options though I'm not sure what to do right now. So yeah I'm open to suggestions on that one.

Just a note to myself.

I am actually sitting next to a fan to cool down, since my place is really heating up due to the south side location. I need to get myself perhaps another curtain to keep out more of the heat. Hmm, I am really not heat resistant however, so perhaps it is not as bad.

Hmm, I assume the budgie coin is one of the list from recently. I do guess it would be looking almost to good to pay with it.

This has been quite a bloody roundhouse kick. I almost though he kicked hard enough to kick off the head, which is possible after what I can tell. But his spurns cutting it off is actually also very cool.

Hmm, that miner does indeed look like Stinky Pete. Well, I loved that movie for what happens with him in the end.

I am kind of glad I usually ignore tourists shops... saves a lot of money and time for things that are actually nice, like that scorpion.

Hmm,I would say cats are easy, but can be quite demanding, if they want something. They observe and play their tricks with us and are hard to be tricked with the same trick twice... at laast my mother's cat seems to have learned her share of tricks. A doberman (or doberwoman?) would probably be more of a loyal companion, though. And also able to bite someone in the leg.

Gyros is a dish that I got at my former school in a form and shape that was probably anything like the one you got. I actually should try real one, if I get the chance.

I would go with it, if you have the budget after seeling your old one. It doesn't seem neccesary to cling to an object that has little use for you, if you could get a better one.

It's raining right now and it is such a relief. Now if it will keep raining til sundown and dry over night so when the sun comes up it won't be so gross. Yeah, if I say I'm hot then most people are already boiling.

Yes it was on my reminder list of coins to get for this year. If I get it it will be my first painted silver which I'm not a fan of. But it's the only budgie coin in the world that I know of so I'll make an exception.

Hehe, I think George knew what he was doing and kicked in front of the vertebra so the throat splits open but head doesn't come off. He could decapitate with those spurs if he wanted. They are custom spurs though shaped like buzz saws just for this purpose. I like that he can remove them and throw them like Chinese Stars too.

Yes this scorpion is way better than some cheap knick knack.

That's what I want from a dog. Loyal and a protector. And dobermans were bred to protect man. It's the only breed who has this purpose so they are very loyal to their masters.

They are very yummy sandwiches. If you ever have the chance do try one.

Yes that's true. I will think about it some more in case there is an option I have not seen yet.

That's going to be pretty gross once it's colored I can tell. I know what George is capable of, but I just can't take that kind of gore.

I think they have a Black Market Minerals at Barefoot Landing in Myrtle Beach, but it doesn't have the mining station. Sometimes I wish I hadn't gotten rid of the rock collection I had as a kid because I had some neat stuff in it.

I've been getting hot at night even when I turn the box fan on. It always gets hot in my room even with the ac on.

Yes this will be pretty gorey once colored. I thought you didn't mind cartoon blood. Just live action bothered you.

Oh that's neat there might be one there. I loved the sound of the water at the mining station.

It's getting pretty bad down here now. I remember being cold at your house and hiding in the covers at night.

Cartoon blood is more tolerable than live action, but the broken windpipe made me gag if that is what that is.

There is a mineral shop there, but I don't remember if it is Black Market Minerals.

I like to hide under the covers. I think that's why I get hot, but my room always gets really hot.

Yes it's his wind pipe. I've done enough animal dissections and necropsis to know they are very hard and don't rip easily like veins.

Whoa. You are having a hot start to summer! Maybe it will be like my last summer where it was hot in November but became rainy after that and much cooler. It wreaked havock with my diverticulitis, unfortunately, making me miss my Christmas family gathering on Boxing Day and the first part of my summer holiday. Luckily the rest of it was awesome and I only got sick once when away when we went to a restaurant that didn't have food I could have.

I really love the George pic and wouldn't change any part of the George pic. Yes, I agree that maybe it is the vcitim that needs to be changed somehow.

I really like that Black Market Mineral place. Shows you all the mining things in one place. I like your water pic. Those quartz crystals sure are big! I like the turquiose crystals, too.

The scorpion is cool and I wish they had a centipede one, too.

Your smaller bullets are cute. You could use the silver ones for killing vampires :D

The chenille flowers are cool. I hope they grow for you.

Yes, cats are like that. I wish more people would realise that about cats. I am a dog persaon myself, but each to his or her own.

Ugh. Why do they have to play loud music at restaurants and eateries? Don't they know anything about gastronomy?

Ah yeah, those Canons are not that great. The DSLRs I have do have auto focus. Well you can turn it on or off. Try focusing thought the view finder rather than using the sreeen.

Hmmm...yeah, you do need a better lens but you do need a body to use it. Maybe get the lens then save for a better body?

Canons are great for blues and Nikons for greens. Pentaxes are colour accurate. You can correct for colour abberation in the programs you use to 'develop' your 'film' eg Silky Pics and Lightroom. Earthmother would be the best person to ask about all this. It is a steep learning curve and I am not competent at it but it is worth learning. Eggshell, her sister, would a a very good person to ask as well. She really has a handle on it as does Earthmother. Now, Earthmother is a true artist!
