Prisoner of the Parakeets
I'm very excited about how close I am to finishing this frame of Renegade. I'm almost done with the shades but I need to take a break as I'm starting to go a bit crazy. But I think I can finish the shades today which is the worst part. Once the characters are done I need to add some effects to the background and some elements like garbage on the ground to keep it from looking so open and boring. I need to get better at filling my backgrounds.

After years of it sitting around on my desk doing nothing I have finished a very old Owen drawing. I scanned it and hope to start to ink it soon. Pulled some other half done PSD files off the computer too and put them on my USB so I can work on them on my laptop. I'd like to get a few more drawings squeezed in for this month.

I have finally scanned the pages from Prisoner of the Parakeets. I'm not going to code them into images. I'll just post the links.

Ok so there's the whole story. I could no longer suspend my disbelief after the part that this was a race of budgie that could build cities. So how can one man trick an advanced civilization to fly to their destruction? Kids were supposed to mindlessly cheer for the heroes in these books and on TV but these are the kinds of questions that came up in my very young mind and was insulting to my intelligence. Oh and how convenient they found him drifting in the ocean. Do you know how difficult it is to find someone not wearing an orange vest in an open ocean even on a calm clear day? So this is why I was usually pissed off by the end of cartoons like this and like inspector gadget. The let down is worse when the plot starts so well as was the case here. The budgies were interesting. Feeding coconuts to humans was rather creative and funny. The art was very good. They got the feet right so that's great. But yeah if the ending suck my J nature writes the whole thing off as a failure.

If I ever make my comic about giant budgies it will be WAY better.

Current Mood: Incredulous

A development towards modern cities in such a short time, I kind of feel a bit annoyed as a history and archaeology student. Mainly, because the entire process of development is so simplified in "they are intelligent, so they got that technology". But I also agree that the ending is very lack-luster. Basically a H-Bomb test saves the world... a weapon that will most likely be able to wipe out mankind, if it was ever to come into wrong hands... how ironic. The worst part is that the parakeets fell for one of the lamest attempts to stop an evil invasion I have ever seen... seriously, they are said to be super-intelligent but get tricked by someone telling them an information they can't know if it's true or false... any leader would send a scout to check the information instead of leading everyone to that place. Man, it's a stupid ending in so many ways.

Ah well, better comics are coming up soon enough. With plausible plots and characters.

Yes I know this story is so messed up on so many levels. If they can make cities that fast and are so intelligent why would they be stupid enough to fall for that dumb trick? And now these empty cities. Why not explore them to see if they had better technology? How convenient to be swimming in that water and not be affected by a bomb too. Now you see how I used to get so annoyed by stories like this growing up.

Yes this is why I make my own stuff up because no one will give me the satisfaction I crave but me.

The plot consists of more holes than someone, who gets dealt with by machine guns. I guess that back then people weren't questioning things that much (not that this changed much), but from the get-go we both see already so many things that are not making sense... I also checked the radius of an H-Bomb explosion and let's say... a small one could pretty much get rid of a metropolis (excluding Beijing, where you would need bigger ones). Strange would be boned from either the explosion or the radiation.
I can certainly relate to that. It's a defiance of logic itself on so many levels it just makes you cringe.

Same here.

Aww I liked those budgies... they reminded me of my own budgie and they were adorable. Shame that they killed them all! ):<

Well basically I was not pleased with the last page... though the rest of the comic was pretty good. I loved all the giant budgies, especially since the gained high intelligence and started to build cities. I bet that in a short amount of time they would have reached Star Trek like technology. The beginnings of Budgie trek? Lol. I would have liked to have seen giant budgies like this take over the world, it would have fit my plan to dominate the world quite well. >:3

Now the last page... yea I didn't like how it ended. But unfortunately that's always the case in these types of comics. The designated "good guy" always wins. And what a stupid way to beat all the budgies too! Yea right, as if intelligent budgies would ACTUALLY get fooled by that. I don't think it's that easy, "John Walden". I feel like creating an alternate ending where the budgies simply kill him off and go on dominating the world for themselves. Who needs people when you can have budgies? Well and the fact that he was found in the middle of the ocean while a nuclear bomb was set off... doesn't seem all that plausible in my eyes. And a bit rushed. And this walden dude seemed very annoying.

Frankly it's not like he was all that mistreated, either. I mean he did get food and water and all... so it's not all that bad. It's not like the budgies tortured him or anything. :P So I see no reason to destroy a budding civilization composed of budgies.

So all in all, I did like the fact that it included budgies... but I didn't like the fact that they were all destroyed.

I totally agree with you. The concept was great but the ending was not. I really liked the art and they did remind me of your budgies and your story. Really you should do an alternate ending. That last page has to go. Now imagine feeling this way almost every time you watched a cartoon or read a book. No wonder my stories are so violent and the main characters are the villains. This kind of thing bugged me so much. Yes the start of Budgie Trek would make sense.

I also think it's odd that this started with a human as a pet and went to wanting world domination which instantly makes the "evil". What if they made things better? Also living as a pet isn't a bad deal. Free house, food and yes they didn't mistreat him because he was a pet. The coconut seeds was one of my favorite panels.

Yeah they shouldn't have been destroyed. What a shame. I'm glad you finally saw this.

I'm commenting now so I won't forget to look through the pages later. I checked out the first three pages, but I'm tired. It looks like a cute comic, though.

It starts well and the art is nice but has a very stupid ending we've all been disappointed by so far.

I just finished it. You were right about the ending. It could have been so much better. The art is nice but that doesn't make up for that stupid ending.
