Tarpon Springs visit and Chicken order
For those of you that know, I was upset yesterday that My Pet Chicken was sold out for the year on Salmon Faverolles. Chris came home a few hours later and I was on the site looking again. The minimum order there is 3 which is one of the things I LOVE about them. The only hatchery that has such a small order. So I looked again and suddenly out of nowhere 3 were available for June 8th. I quickly logged in and put all three in my cart. But it said for my zip code the minimum order is 4. Darn, have to chose one more bird. I really didn't want anything else. A light Bramah perhaps but those were sold out. Then I saw Easter Eggers and there was one for the same date. Perfect I added one. Wouldn't mind another blue egg layer. Amazing it was as though it was meant to be the breeds I wanted were suddenly there for me. This has also been the least expensive chicken order I have ever placed since they are more affordable breed. Well I had not expected to be ordering chickens again so soon. The plan is to keep one and give the rest to Mike since he had a hawk attack recently and lost two of his. Or I don't know. Maybe I'll keep them all as some of my old girls are looking old. I must think of names again. Also I hope this time they will be the right color. The standard for Salmons is a coffee and cream color. White tummies with tan wings. Very pastel and pretty looking hens. It's still so funny to me to be buying and naming hens that don't even exist yet. But what timing. It was almost as it it was meant to be. Here is what they are supposed to look like. https://www.flickr.com/photos/nikon_nanny/8197938344

So about Weds. Chris was recovering from Allergies still. We were trying to decide what to do. He mentioned canoeing at the park but I didn't think that was a good idea with how he felt. I suggested a boat ride in Tarpon Springs so we could sit back, see nature and let someone else do the driving. I called to book but they were full. Darn. Well there's lots to do so the plan was go anyway, go to the aquarium, have lunch and then go to the arcade museum. I mentioned there was the chance someone would cancel and we could get on the boat. We parked and started walking to the aquarium. We walked past the boat place and they flagged us and asked us to ride the boat. "Seats opened? How many?" I asked. "Two" they told me. YES!! My gosh did I call that or what? I had a feeling. So we did the Odyssey boat cruise instead. It's a two hour dolphin tour that stops for half an hour at Anclote Key for shelling and walking on the beach. We had a great time with photography and though we didn't see any dolphins we didn't care as that wasn't the main point for us. It was a great time. After that we ate at Rusty Bellies which is mostly a seafood joint. But I'm glad Chris had a sandwich he really loved. I'll share half the photos now and put the other half in another post. I'm very tired right now.

This store does have the best shells of all the stores in Tarpon Springs. See the tiki hut in the background? That's where we wait for the boat.

Tarpon Springs is a Greek fishing village that is famous for their sponges.

Here's our boat the Odyssey dropping off the previous passengers.

Our boat was nice and shade. Seats were comfy on my back.

This boat looked really bad.

View from behind the boat. I liked being near the engines.

This was so funny. I'm glad I was able to snap this pic of this destroyed boardwalk. I guess they really don't want any trespassing like it says.

They told us this house was in the movie Beneath the 12 Mile Reef from the 50's. I want to see this movie now. I wonder what Tarpon Springs looked like back then?

Sailing past the power plant. This was pretty cool.

The boat splashes a lot when going fast so you do get wet.

Anclote key lighthouse.

Our boat docked on the beach. This is so cool it can go in such shallow water. We had fun walking around here.

So lots of fun. I will post the other photos soon. It was just an awesome day that worked out so well.

What a nice boat trip. The power plant is neat. I also like the light house.

Soon you will have sweet little chicks. Hopefully you can take pictures of this next batch without a certain little white trouble maker getting jealous of them.

I loved it. I hope to go back and find another one that lets you have more time to explore the island. I'd like to go up the lighthouse.

I'm looking forward to that actually. Haha yes. I'll have to make sure she's closed up when I photograph them on the counter.

As much as you state you don't want that many and might give them to your friend, I am willing to bet once you get the little cuties you will be keeping them all ;)

You're 100% right. I'm trying to make myself believe that by saying it over and over but I don't think I will want to part with them. I just hope my yard can handle 13 chickens.

Ooooooh lucky number 13! When I rescued Taylor I kept telling myself over and over on the drive from Ohio I was not going to keep him. I already had three cats and couldn't afford a fourth. Plus he was really sick and I didn't want to get attached and he dies :P But as you well know, I ended up naming him, healing him, and keeping him. He just turned eight years old the other day. Face it, we just love our babies ;)

Yeah we will see if it's 13 as I said in the other post some of my old hens are starting to look really old. I was worried there wouldn't be room in the coop but there is and that there wouldn't be enough bugs but I think the yard can take it. I am being so bad. I'm trying to think of 4 names. Why FOUR? I only need ONE name. Yeah it's happening.

Well hopefully your new chicks will also be very neat. ^^

The photos from your trip seem quite neat. I find it rather awesome how you have those nice coastal tropical looking places all around you. One of my favourite environments. The boat trip seems rather interesting by the looks of it... as your photos indicate a lot of interesting stuff.

I had not expected to have chicks again so soon. I don't even know where I put all the baby feeders. I need to find those. I'm looking forward to it and hope I can get excited soon. I do like that anticipation.

Thanks. Some habitats in Florida are very beautiful. I want to get out to them more. Now I really want to go back to that island with more time. But I don't know how as it's an island and I don't own a boat. Yeah I think this place has so much to photograph and I found out you can go up the light house so now I want to go.

It does seem like those chickens were meant for you. I looked on that site and Salmon Faverolles ARE very pretty. I hope your's turn out just right.

I'm glad you got on that boat. Another thing meant to be. I'm glad the seats were comfy, too. A nice healthy outing for Chris to help him get over his allergies. And you saw a lot of cool things.

Yes. It's amazing how that happened. I love the hens the most. They are such pretty coffee colored birds. Me too.

Yes that seemed like it too. Yes it was a good ride something nice for him to do. He's finally recovered.

I do have to say that this is quite a lucky turn of events with the chicken order. I do hope that your new chick will grow up nicely and be a good member of the flock and family.

Speaking of allergies, I am already suffering from them. Currentely I require something akin to Zyrtec to breath better. Right now the massive amount of birch pollen is pretty much weakening me. So I would say that doing something relaxed certainly was a good idea. And lucky you, two seats were open. I guess intuition can predict those things sometimes. And otherwise it sounds like a great day. I would certainly view it as very enjoyable.

Desthagirion on April 11th, 2015 11:42 am (UTC)
Yes that was crazy they showed back up when I was on. I hope I can get the friendly chicken I have always wanted.

Oh no, not you too. I hope it will pass soon as I have seen how miserable people can get. The pollen is nasty too and it affects everyone not just allergy suffers. It gets all over cars and drive ways and leaves a yellow green film.
audes_ljaudes_lj on April 11th, 2015 01:24 pm (UTC)
I wish you luck with the little one.

Well, I usually just need one or two non-described medications for blocking the allergies out, so I am going to live through the next few months... unfortunately birch trees are active for a long time. But at the very least it is not as extreme at the time being.
