My Dr. Grant Hat is complete!
What a great few days I have had. Well those of you that read about my eye I think it's finally better. I haven't felt any pain so hopefully it won't come back. Yesterday was our day off and we also got our tax return. My savings is doing great now but I still have a long way to go. This is very exciting because it's looking very possible to get my truck this Fall. Though I'm still not sure if I should do that, or hold out one more year for another tax return and keep saving? But I'm going crazy right now. I want to be able to drive now. I don't know if I can hold out another year. The bigger the down payment the smaller the monthly payments though. I think that not having a car payment each month has helped tremendously since Chris got his truck paid off. So I'm not exactly sure what to do.

We did our usual morning rounds and then we went to Tractor Supply. I found a shirt there that looks like Dr. Grant's so Chris got me that. I'm only waiting on the scarf to arrive and I've pretty much got the whole outfit. Not so worried about the little stuff like belt, watch and sunglasses. Well I do want to get myself some boots and if they happen to look like Grant's it's ok. I would like some nice hiking boots since I plan to hike a lot when we go to Georgia. That would be nice.

So after that we decided to go to Colt Creek as I was feeling really good physically. I had a feeling I could go further than I've ever done and I was right. I felt great and what a difference from last time when I needed the wheel chair. But by the end I was all side ways and hurting and had to stop. I love this park. There are always so many birds. And this is the first time I have seen it in the Spring. Things are turning green and there's always something amazing happening. This place is so hard to see everything not only because it's huge but because something will stop you ever five minutes to look, watch through binoculars or take photos. So I have some photos I want to share. But before I show the nature stuff I got my hat band in the mail today and my Grant hat is finished and looks awesome just like the movie.

This is awesome!! Compare to the movie. http://sta.sh/02fp6wznuoi7

Again compare to a screen cap. http://sta.sh/0sc5k1ynxpu

Here's what it looked like when I got it out of the box. Didn't look much like his hat but I ran it under water, soaked it and shaped it. BTW the yellow sponge thing went inside. The hat was a bit too big but with that sponge it fit perfectly.

Here it is shaped before I got the band. Amazing how the band makes a huge difference. The personality totally changes.

Florida ivory millipede. We stopped our car as it was crossing the road. I didn't know our millipedes got this big. I had to save it. It was cute.

What a neat perspective.

I love going through these big concrete tubes at this park. I hope they never get rid of them.

I don't know what this plant is. Looks like some kind of bean family but it smelled really good. Oh and I'm very happy to have finally ID'ed a purple flower I've seen all my life but never knew what it was. Texas toadflax. Nuttallanthus texanus. I used to pick these as a very young kid and not til now do I know what they are. This white plant is still a mystery.

We found this stagnant lake that looks like it's a sinkhole. It was very cool.

This red shouldered hawk landed on this tiny branch and yes it broke and he fell. I was laughing at him. I've seen birds fall a lot at this park. Birds aren't always graceful like we think. One time at this place I saw a turkey vulture trying to hang on a branch and he fell off and his friend was just watching like, "You ok, Bob?" It was so funny and probably embarrassing for the birds that fall.

After an awesome time at the park we went to this dinner date at Red Lobster.

This was a huge meal. We split it. I had the crab legs, a bit of lobster and Chris ate everything else. It was amazing. Soooo good. I Love crab. It's my all time fave.

And around the house the garden and wildlife has been great too.

Our lovely loquat. Ok I found a way to eat these and now I like them too I just eat the seeds as I don't like the taste and texture of the skin. I drop the skins and the chickens clean up after me. Poor Chris is not too happy that all the birds are eating his fruits and now a centipede girl is in there too. Haha.

Red bellied woodpecker eating a loquat.

Chickens jump up for the fruits.

Melon is a raptor going for the loquat. Her white eye lids make her look creepy.

Dandelions in our gutter in the front yard. I love these cute wild flowers.

Our tabebuia gets so few flowers but they are always lovely.

A pumpkin plant grew from the seeds of the pumpkins that died near this tree. There are only two pumpkins left from Halloween. I was so happy about this and hope this plant will make it as it started so early in the year.

Lastly the bluebirds made the first nest of the year. I hope this year will be a good one because last year they had a very bad year.

Lastly I got two hoya cuttings today that I ordered. I can't wait to see how they do and now they take. I'll take pics once I pot them up.

Melon the monster bird. Those nictating membranes are weird. I've seen birds at the raptor center blink with them and close them. Cats have them too, but I don't think they can use them independently of their other eyelids like the birds can.

I love the dandelions. We don't have many yet, but the flowering trees are starting. The Bradford Pears bloomed this week.

Yeah and I always seem to catch birds in this blink. Only birds move them independently since they use them to protect their eyes and still see.

I do too they're such cute plants. I like both the flower and the seed head. Glad spring is coming to your area.

Hooray for the Dr Grant hat!

Your pickup is coming closer!

Seafood dinner...mmmm! I love crab above all else, too.

I've never eaten loquat seeds. I didn't know that they could be eaten! Are you sure they're not poisonous? I eat the flesh just like your chooks. I love your photo of the chook jumping up. Just like the scrub turkeys get in the mulberry tree here.

Love all your spring photos. I love dandelions too. And cool giant millipede!

Good luck with your pumpkins.

And I hope your bluebirds do well this year.

Yes finally finished and looks just like his.
Yes I'm quite happy about that. Hope it will all work out this year.
That's awesome crab is also your fave.
I don't eat the seeds. For fat chickens they jump pretty high.
Thanks. I'm always happy to see cute dandelions and now giant millipedes.
Thanks I hope both will be a success this year too.
