Good Anniversary
I haven't posted in a few days. Just nothing too interesting has happened til yesterday.
So we sort of celebrated our 19th anniversary yesterday. We went to Colt Creek State Park again and took the wheelchair to try it out. I really needed it or I would not have been able to walk down the road like we did with my big camera. I would walk around to get closer to birds but to get from one place to another without zapping all my strength I needed Chris. I did have a very good time. It was much dryer and there were so many green tree swallows everywhere. But the day was cloudy and most of my photos turned out terrible. This is the most color correcting I have ever had to do in photoshop and I learned how to fix some dark photos today. I will post about that later. Remember that I don't like photos with pointless effects and the photoshop should only be used to fix photos that came out badly like in this case. To try to make them look normal not artsy.

My favorite thing was that I saw so many Eastern Meadowlarks. That was my favorite birds and the target species to look for. This park is amazing for its birds. There are always so many birds of one kind or another. Also this park is incredible for its sounds. The best things to do are to sit quietly in one spot and listen to the silence and then all the bird and frog sounds. If you sit still the birds come to you. I love going on weekdays when there are very few to no people around. No people is my fave of course as you feel like you really are out with just nature. Here are some of the photos I took.

Bullet lark! Ha I love how I manage to capture birds flying with their wings closed. I love bullet birds.

Savannah sparrow landing.

Red shouldered hawk

Red shoulder and green tree sparrow. These sparrows were everywhere in a swarm. It was so neat.

Landing meadowlark. So neat I caught him in this funny pose.

This is my favorite photo. Six meadowlarks. Four flying and two on the ground.

I actually chased these guys on foot for a long distance so I was hurting a lot on the way home. I got very tired and fibro kicked in. I had no energy. So we watched a movie. Home Front. I liked it. The guy fighting and defending his daughter really made me think of George. Good action movie. I felt better afterwards and I watched Chris game a bit.

Today I'm ok. Peep died last night. I had been expecting it actually. I'm glad I took this pic yesterday.

I called it Old Men and you can just see how old Peep and Cinnamon Bun are. I mentioned on DA that I was hoping for death on them as they look so tired of life. Peep was 8 or 9. I'm not sure so that's good for a budgie. He was the best flyer I have had in a long time and most like Phage in personality. A fun lovely budgie. He's Bullet's grandfather. It's sad and it's quieter now without him but I think it was for the better. It was time for him to go. I'm surprise I got another year out of Peep. Cinnamon Bun is old too at 14 and I'm expecting him to go too. He chirped and whistled when I pulled Peep's little body out of his cage. I nee to put another gentle budgie in with him as Cinnamon Bun hates to be along since he lost Abigail last year. And now he lost peep.

Here's all 3 back in August of 2014 when they all looked good still.

Winter certainly is quite a dark time... I guess it is good to have a program like Photoshop to fix problems like that. And it seems your 19th anniversary has been quite a success, despite the weather and wheelchair. Kinda interesting that the bird come to people, if they are quiet and calm. Would be quite an experience to have and there are so many beautiful birds.

Tha Home Font movie sounds neat. I kind of like parents that take a gun to put a bullet into the heads of people who threaten their children. They are quite dedicated.

Hmm, I guess it is for the better. It is sad that Peep passed away, but he lived quite long and must have been tired. It does suck for Cinnamon Bun, who outlived his mate and now Peep... must be hard for him.
You guys have my condolences.

Yes some of the photos look pretty normal once I fixed them up. I forgot to set my camera to cloudy day. Yes I'm happy I was able to do some things at least. If you're quiet and patient with nature things will come to you. It really is such a wonderful place.

Oops I spelled that wrong. It's Home Front. I edited it. But yes it's a good action movie. It's good he stood up for his daughter and made the threats pay.

Yes he had a very long life. I wish budgies lived longer though. They have relatively short life spans. Thanks.

Great action shots of the birds, Des! Those are my favorite...those wing shots! I'm glad the wheelchair was so helpful to you and eased your tiredness. Ha! I can just visualize you jumping up and chasing the meadowlarks....I would have done the same thing, I'm sure. I'm glad you bounced back and felt okay the next day.

So sorry for the loss of Peep. I'm sure every loss of your beloved birds is hard, and some more than others. That's cool that he's Bullet's grandfather. Wow! Fourteen for Cinnamon Bun! According to your statistics, he's living way beyond expectancy.

Wishing you and Chris a belated Happy Anniversary!

Thanks. I'd like to imagine what I could do with a real lens. Yes flying birds in funny poses are the best. I nearly jumped out of the car. We were leaving and I told Chris to pull over I wanted to get the meadowlarks. I got out and went after them. I did pay the price but I had to do it haha it was fun. I'm taking it easy today.

Thanks. He did live longer than average as budgies last about 6 years. Cinnamon Bun is a cockatiel and he's about average. They can live 15-20 years. But he's looking bad.

Thanks. We had a nice day.

Oh, I looked too quickly, but now I see Cinnamon Bun has little top feathers and is a cockatiel. And I see the long tail in the second picture of them together, too.

Heheh, yes Cinnamon Bun is a cockatiel.

So many beautiful bird pictures. Even though Red Shoulders are very common, they have gorgeous patterns on their wings and tails. Those two pictures of the hawk are pretty. I bet the little bird was harassing him. I think the bullet Meadowlark is cute and funny. I love your bullet bird pictures.

I realize he was old, but I feel sad about Peep. He seemed like a very sweet budgie. He looks like a cute little cotton ball in that picture. He looks like he needs to be loved on in that picture, and I hope you got a chance to love on him before he died. I feel bad for Cinnamon Bun too. He may have a few years left, but he's lost his mate and now his buddy.

Yeah some birds can be common but still very nice. I do love all the stripes on a red shoulder. Thanks. They may have been. They were all swarming around the lake then the hawk came by and I just happened to capture the two.

Yeah I do too and I miss Peep. He was very sweet and nice. He was pesky too loving to buzz me all the time as he was such a good flier. He'd fly under the cabinets at at my eye level when I was trying to eat.I don't know if Cinnamon has a few years. He looks really bad.

I'm glad you had a good anniversary! And the wheelchair served you well.

I'm sorry Peep died. He sounds like he was a good budgie. I feel sorry for Cinnamon Bun.
Desthagirion on February 6th, 2015 01:01 pm (UTC)
Yeah it was nice to get out and see neat birds again.
Thanks. He was a very good budgie. Yeah poor Cinnamon Bun.
