New chicks finally!!
Well today was great. I got my new baby chicks. Check this out.

I'm not sure which ones are which yet especially two of the black ones. So this is how the names are supposed to go.

Hoboken - Jersey Giant
Melon - Salmon Faverolles
Amaretto - Buff Orpington
Latte - Olive Egger
Hazelnut - Olive Egger
Leafie - White Marans

There were no substitutions and I got everything I asked for. Leafie might be the dominant hen in this group. She's very outgoing just like her name sake.

In other chicken news; I'm seriously considering getting rid of Henrietta. She's so loud, demanding, fence hopper and the other chickens copy her bad habits because she's the dominant bird. When she's not around the flock is perfect. I can't have the new babies being taught bad things. I need a quiet flock first and foremost and I can't have her teaching them how to jump the fence. I'm going a bit mad how many days nothing pleases her. Not food, treats, being in the house or using the nest. If I had no neighbors I wouldn't care I guess, but still she shouldn't wander off to where a predator could get her too like a dog. This is not easy for me as I do love her and her good traits but her bad ones are so bad. Chris has a cousin that owns a farm and I'm hoping he'll take good care of her. I don't know. We haven't heard back yet. My chickens need to be pets I can let out in the morning and not worry about or be checking on all the time. Then lock them up at night. Easy maintenance. I'm not impressed with Rhode Island Reds.

Other than that I'm very happy with my new hens. We also went to see Godzilla today. It was surprisingly good. Not the greatest but not terrible either. I will do a full review on that later on. And Chris got his new camera today after that. I was so happy to go out with him and get it. It's a Canon Powershot SX50 HS. Of course it's brand new so he doesn't know what to think yet but we both loved the reviews on it.

I loved this video so much! When you said, "Let's go home" I said, "yes! Let's go home!" I hope all of your chicks settle in nicely. Sorry to hear about the continuing problems with Henrietta. That's gotta be nerve-wracking and difficult to manage.

Aw thanks. They seem to be doing well. They all know where the food and water is and it's going down fast haha.
Yeah we're both sad about Henrietta.

Oh yay, new chickens! I remember teaching our day old chicks to drink and eat with mum when we got them off the train. That's cool that you have worked out which are which for the most part. I'm glad that you didn't get any substitutions.

Yes, Henrietta as top chicken will get all the best food and laying spots etc but yeah she must be a pain getting out all the time. Rhode Island Reds are a bit aggressive. I hope you and Chris can come to a decision on here that you are both comfortable with.

And I hope Chris is happy with his new camera!

I'm happy with them. They all know where the food and water is now and use it a lot.

We're both sad about Henrietta. Chris told me that last night that he likes all our chickens a lot.

Yeah we'll see. He's not too happy so far but it was night and he couldn't really use it. He needs to read the manual and spend time with it. I told him to give it a chance to know for sure. I didn't like mine either at first and said all the same stuff.

They learnt quickly, didn't they?

I think Chris would love how Henrietta acts like a dog and greets him when he comes home. He might miss that. But she is a pain.

I hope Chris gets to try his camera in the daylight soon and that it is good!

I saw that video yesterday when you put it up. They are very cute.

Sorry to hear about all the problems with Henrietta, but if she's driving you that crazy, it's probably a good idea to rehome her.

Thanks. They are fun. I let them run around on the floor for the first time today.

Yeah she has become a big problem.

I went to view your video and it said "error...try again later." So I'll be back to comment again another time. I can imagine how cute it must be.

Sounds like Chris got a nice camera.

And sorry about all your problems with Henrietta. The part about her greeting Chris is pretty cool.

That's weird. All you have to do is hit the play button in the center and you can watch it here on livejournal. I'm watching it now as I type this.

Yeah, he didn't like it at first and almost returned it but now he's warmed up to it. I'm so glad. He's really starting to get used to it and take lots of pics.

Yeah, she's been good lately but I just can't handle these mood swings. I can't have the babies learning her bad habits.
