Life List
I always thought the notion of a bird life list was silly. But now that I traveled so much and have seen such amazing birds, and that I have more bird friends I figured why not. I still think it's silly and I'm terrible at keeping lists. Just see how I abandoned my carnivorous plant list. So I shall go through my field guide and add birds I know I have seen. New birds I will try to add with date, location and scientific name. I will also include non native birds because they are in the wild and established. Personally I think the rule that if you see it in a zoo it doesn't count is dumb. If you've seen a bird you've seen a bird regardless of where it was and you can appreciate its beauty. I guess the stupid rules are what I always hated about life lists but I'm doing this one MY way. I've seen more rare parrots than most people and I have worked with endangered species too. I probably will count those. Screw the rules.

Wow! That's quite a list.
I think when you make a list like this, it puts it more into perspective of how many you have seen.

Thanks. And I'm not even finished yet. I still need to put down more species and add photos of the ones I have. Peregrine Falcon, Chachalaca, Great Kiskidee, Red footed booby and palmchat are the new birds I saw last year for the first time. And I forgot to list the palmchat.

I think it is a good idea to list them, especially when it is something you are passionate about. When my mom passed away and my sister and I were going through things at the house, I found a small bird book she had kept all her life. She wrote down next to the pictures the dates she saw each bird and where she saw them. I have it now and it is a real treasure to me, especially because I had no idea she was doing this from the time she was a young girl.

Oh wow. That is an amazing find.

Your list of birds is awesome! ^^ It'll be neat to see what new species you add over time. :)

I just now found this comment. Thanks. Yes I hope to add a few more in Oct. I'm still refining it as I realized I forget to add some species. I missed Killdeer and there are so many here.

You have a really nice bird life list. I think i will made one since i love creating a list of interesting things i've saw and encoutered. For now i collect bird feathers from my morning walks and i can see the birds but in future i will create my personal bird and herps list.

Thank you. Oh I need to update this with the new birds I picked up on my trip. I think I got 5 new lifers. YAY! Like any collection the further you go the harder it gets to get new ones. As you saw I didn't like the idea of a list at first but now I do as it's a challenge to "collect" birds. I think that would be neat if you did make a bird life list.

You are welcome. It's like a challenge, like in a videogame where you collect precious items but here it is more interesting. I think i will do, but it will consist in drawings. I will draw birds i've encountered, then i will write the list with links to the images. I will put on DA.
