More bird problems
These last two days have just sucked. I haven't been able to enjoy all the nice comments I got on DA about my comic. Remember how I said if you loose birds it's always your faves? Chris let the chickens out today and told me Zucca was missing. I closed up the birds last night but I didn't take a count. I wasn't thinking straight. I was very sad yesterday and hadn't realized that the incident with pigeons had upset me more than I thought. Yesterday I caught the last pigeon in the loft and put him inside. I don't know if it's Bluey or Torque. No more flying pigeons that really bothered me. So the pigeon loft is now officially a chicken coop. Then I got upset because I knew the coop needed work. A lot of the wood needs to be repaired. But looks like the floor might be rotted out. If that's the case that means it can't be repaired and the whole things needs to be rebuilt. Not happy about that. We really need to pick up that plastic shed. So that was bugging me and I didn't do much of anything other than watch cartoons.

So Zucca is missing today and I think I didn't take a count. I'm afraid I may have closed the coop and she wasn't in there. But a lot of things don't add up. When they have gotten locked out they all sleep on these cages piled against the house. And if something got her there would have been screaming and feathers all over the place. There are no feathers and no sign of a struggle. She's not the type to jump the fence either. She's never done that. None of the gates or fences were opened anyway. I could have sworn she was in there too because I waited as Omega is always the last to go in. Chris says it's possible she ran out when he let them out because he takes a count when he feeds them in the morning. Three blacks and three browns. We looked everywhere and can't find her. We drove around the street and in the back neighborhood. Chris left for work and I went and took a walk back there with a can of worms but didn't see her. It's possible someone stole her too. And of course she's my second favorite after Henrietta. With Henrietta being a pest it's possible Zucca is my favorite and now she's gone. None of the possible things that could have happened make any sense. I wish they had phone number leg bands like the pigeons do, but no one makes those. It needs to be some kind of band that won't fall off when they dig. So yeah I'm very upset right now. Plus it's rainy and crappy, but at least walking in the mist/rain was cool and not hot. I don't want to loose my cute sweet Zucca. She was the smallest but she could kick butt. As for Henrietta like Kabuldur told me seems she's a bossy breed. No more Rhode Island Reds. They have been nothing but trouble. I always hear good things about reds but I don't think they are good for a home flock as pets. I want docile quiet breeds which is mostly what I ordered. Looks like some of the new babies will be replacements.

Edit: Well this just cheered me up. I found two wild chickens in my yard. I have heard we have wild chickens around but have never seen any until now. They were two female bantams and I was thrilled they were under the coop. But they got scared when they saw me and ran through the fence. I wish they had stayed with my girls and found the food. They're welcome to join the flock. I worry too because people might not know Zucca is a domestic pt and not wild if she's out there somewhere walking around.

They looked like mini Easter Eggers but I don't know what kind they are.

I hope you find Zucca. I hate it when people steal animals, especially pets. If those people want an animal so badly, they should save up their money and buy one, not take one who is loved by someone else.

Thanks. I hope so too but it's not looking good. I hope no one stole her. I really don't know what happened. But hey check out the edit I just made. It made me feel a lot better but I'm still pretty sad.

You got pics of the bantams! They are cute. I'm glad Zucca came back. And I hope you can get some leg bands made. You will need a few when you get your new chickens.
