2013 Year in Review
Ok time for that meme I do every year and see how I did with resolutions this time around.

1. What did you do this past year that you have never done before?

Rode a train. Not only that but slept on one in a sleeping car. It was awesome to experience something so American and part of our history. Traveling by train here I think is very different than any other country. We have our own flare. I definitely want to do it again and have Chris join me. I just wish it weren't so expensive. If it were more affordable my gosh I'd be traveling the whole country this way.

2. Did you keep your new years resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Yes some and will talk about that after this.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Yes unfortunately.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Tesla my budgie man died. I miss him sometimes. I was going through last year's Christmas posts and found his pics there. I hate I could never breed him. I tried.

5. What new states or countries did you visit. If not new did you travel for fun?

Oooh long answer. I went to North Carolina. One new state to color on my map. I missed South Carolina both times. I even realized I was dreaming and woke myself up. It was 4am and I asked the conductor where we were. He goes, " Georgia". ARG, just missed it. Jamaica and Haiti were my two new countries after my cruise to the Caribbean.

6. What would you like to have in the new year that you lacked in this past year?

A working vehicle.

7. What dates from this year remain etched in your mind and why?

Oct 28 in Labadee Haiti. I saw new birds like the Palmchat and new bugs like that sphinx caterpillar that was HUGE. Oct 31. Chichen Itza at Quetzalcoatl's temple. That trip was amazing. We're both still reeling from it. Also July 10th. That was my early birthday and we went to visit Earthmother and had a great time at the botanical garden. I felts so good, was so healthy and looked so good that day. Then I had a chocolate cake at red lobsters.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

I don't know. Managing my money so well perhaps. OH I know. Meeting my goal of 12 colored drawings in one year. I also exceeded that. I am thrilled with how much art I made this year. More than enough for a calendar or two. I also really improved. I also met my goal of 52 sketches. I need to update that. I don't know if I'll do that again next year though.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Not being able to breed Tesla. His special budgie genes are gone.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

No thank goodness. I am so grateful how healthy I was this year. So thankful because 2012 was so painful.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

I bought a new camera. That was pretty nice. I didn't buy too many plants this year. Two I think though I just ordered some but they won't arrive til next year so yeah I did good not spending money there. Last year I spent so much on plants. But this year I am doing that again.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

ALEX! He saved our underwater photos from the abyss of the evil DVD.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled?

I don't know. I see lots of appalling behavior and people staying in bad situations online. It drives me nuts and I just try to avoid it because I go out of my way to make myself happy. I don't surround myself with negativity. I do my best to remove it even if it must be removed violently.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Into the cruise. Best 3K I have ever spent. I think if I bought a car I'd have some guilt. There was worry setting it up but once on the ship no regrets. Not only that but I'm proud of how I budgeted my money on the ship and all in all we didn't spend more than $200 which is great. We're not the type of passengers they like.

15. What did you get really excited about?

Lots of stuff.Oh I know. I have a new character this year. Two actually but George/Gallemotch. I have LOVED working with him. I created him in March and I had no clue then that he would be so special to me. I created him to be a throw away character but gosh he was too good to let me do that.

16. What do you wish you’d done more of?

Gardening. I miss having had a real garden. But I think I was just so busy with my art totally infusing me and taking over me I don't regret it too much. I wish I had played my bass more.

17. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Hum, nothing really. I managed my time very well this year. Perhaps procrastinating on my writing though I did do fairly well on that too.

18. How did you spend Christmas?

Quiet at home with Chris. We went out to a park. Christmas eve was also nice and quiet at home. We really needed it.

19. What was your favorite TV program?

No TV.

20. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

Yes I'm sure. Have met lots of idiots online I'd like to stab.

21. Did you read any new books. If so which did you like best?

I was bad about reading. I started lots of books but didn't finish any.

22. What was your greatest musical discovery?

None this year. But I'm still loving Powerwolf.

23. What did you want and get?

Cameras!! My new still camera and a new underwater camera...that I still need to test and make sure it works. I also got a lacewing budgie. I beat the odds and go her on the first try. She was the only baby and she's become an awesome pet.

24. What did you want and not get?

Lots of things. A car/truck. Plants.

25. Did you see any new movies this year? And if so which did you like best?

Yes. I think Monsters University was my fave.

26. What did you do on your birthday?

Birthday was awesome! That was my train trip to North Carolina to visit my good friend ACTipton80. I'd like to do it again sometime. We went to a botanical garden, a science museum, a university garden, the raptor center and we had fun watching movies each night and chatting with Chris on Skype. I got to play with her budgie Nigel too.

27. What is one thing that would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Oh gosh that's hard to say because this goes down in the records as one of the most awesome years of my life. But things can always be better. A new truck.

28. What political issue stirred you the most?

I don't remember. I try to avoid politics. But I'm a righty.

29. Did you meet anyone new you became good friends with?

Yes on DA I met PeregrineFalconLady. I took her gift of my blue and gold macaw plush with me on my trip. I think that's it. I have met lots of new people on DA but I'm still getting to know them. I don't make friends easily and it's hard to gain my trust. Not because I'm insecure but quite the opposite. I'm very selective of who I will call friend. All the people I think fondly of are old friends. OH I knew I was missing someone. ADFTLove on DA too.

30. What video game obsessions did you have this year if any?

I got back into Red Dead Redemption this year because there's a guy that looks so much like George. I love playing as him. I was obsessed with that game at the time until I got level 50 and unlocked him. Right now well I'm back obsessing over Sims and loving it. Again because of George.

31. What hobbies did you improve, start or work more on this year?

My art. I'm amazed how much art I made this year. I don't know why I did so much better. Well I know the crappy results from previous years spurred me too. I got sick of the time I had wasted and was sick of it. I hope I can keep this pace up the rest of my life.

32. Which holiday did you enjoy most this year?

HALLOWEEN!! You guys know why.

33. If there's something not covered by the questions you would like to add about this past year you may do so here. Happy New Year

Yes. Looking back 2012 was kind of a bad year for me. 2013 has been amazing. I was enjoying my obsession with Ophidius. Come March I got Gallemotch and then George I think in April. My focus switched to him and I love him dearly now. I'm so glad he's become more than a throw away character. OH this was also the year I made my first animation. That was an amazing accomplishment. I definitely want to make more. Traveled twice within the US and on a cruise on the largest cruise ship in the world to the Caribbean. All my holidays were good. If not exciting they were relaxing. Again my health was great this year and I'm so thankful for that. Financially it's obviously been a very good year too. We're finally out of some bad problems we had with some taxes. That's something I'm so grateful to have left behind in 2012 too. OH I think this is the year we paid off the truck. That's one less big bill per month and I think that's really helped us out. I can't wait to file for our tax return ASAP in the new year. Can you just feel my energy of how happy I have been? Nothing could bring me down this year.

Alright let's see how I did on resolutions. Here's what I made at the beginning of the year.

* Make a minimum of 12 finished drawings related to my characters. Other drawings don't count. BLEW This out of the water! More than 12. Amazing. I used to average 4. Last time I think I had two. I got sick of wasting my talent.
* Get my book out (book's done. I need to finish the art. I'm close. I'm not only the author but the illustrator. This may be the year.) No but now it's closer than ever. Only 5 drawings come one. That hard part is my hearts not on the characters anymore though I still love them.
* Get an aviary No.
* Write more and stay on topic more. Not so many alternate spin offs. But finish the Solan and Cope one. (I can't believe I didn't finish this story. That's so wrong. I think about it a lot and talk to Chris about it often)Yes and No. I didn't finish the Sun and the Water. I didn't touch it and I don't think it will ever get done. But I have written a LOT for George, Ophidius and Malidicus. I call that a success. More YES than no.
* Make more money YES
* Keep the website up better No
* Travel. Visit one new State and/or Country. (This was accomplished, but I want to do it again.)YES again
* Build the Big Aristolochia arbor Nooooo. This is one of my regrets
* Build the side fence No
* Build the Garage arbor No
* Orangize the garageNo not really
* Finish tagging journalAlmost! Only have two or three months left to go
* Back up journalNo
* 1 doodle per week (this will be hard and I will make a chart for myself. I know I will get behind. Can be of anything. As long as I'm doodling/practicing)YES!!
* Get contactsYES!!
* Fix car or get a new oneNo. Oh gosh another regret

Ok so here we go. Many of these will be the same.

2014 Resolutions

You can come back again whenever you want. I have the dates for Orlando, and our hotel and I will email those probably tomorrow. I've never traveled by train in the US. I think that may have to go onto my bucket list.

One other good thing for you for this year was Bullet. I'm surprised you didn't mention her.

Aw thanks. I do want to meet up with you in Orlando. So once I get the info I'll see what Chris can work out. I don't have a new calendar yet. At least one is on the way. I don't like using the one on the computer but will have to. Yes if you ever get a chance (in a sleeping car because I did not enjoy normal seats with strangers at all) do it.

I did! #23.

I think we are coming in on 1/21 which is a Tuesday. We have Wed.-Fri. of that week at Universal, and we are going home on that Saturday. I don't know flight times, but we will have free time on Tuesday afternoon. I don't know the exact name of the inn, but I think is is Las Quintas Universal or something like that. I hope mom has all the correct info written down somewhere because I'm going on what she told me which may be wrong. She had written some different dates on my Christmas card, and those were wrong.

I found her in your list. She's so cute.

Well there's still time so just find the info and email it to me. No prob.

I am thankful for Bullet. I trimmed her wings today. She was a bad baby. She's was defiant and then she flew out the service window onto the patio and I had to chase her twice. She went back in through the glass door went around and back out the service window. I've had enough so CLIP. Amazing change. She's awesome now and very sweet. She knows she needs to rely on me for transportation.

That was a neat way to sum up your art for the year. Well done! I can see that you could potentially get some income through this.

Hopefully you can get a new vehicle or working this year.

Thanks. I have seen similar art memes on DA but decided to make my own because the others were just boring boxes.

Yeah.

I'm glad 2013 has been as good for you as it has for me. We've both done so much travelling! It's been awesome!

I would also like to travel more this year.
If I can.
Not sure how to do that now when I will have two kiddos. lol

I hope you can get a good working car this year.
Desthagirion on January 13th, 2014 12:59 pm (UTC)
I hope you can. I'm making tentative plans for this year but we'll see how it goes.
Thanks. It would help tremendously.
