First NC photo dump 1
I think I'm back to normal finally as far as energy level goes. My middle finger has been hurting though. It's never stopped hurting since the swell up incident, but it has been tolerable. A pain I can ignore. But today it's been a bit worse. Naturally the last few days I have had a very strong urge to play my bass. Let's hope it will stop hurting and I can play it before I loose the mood.

Art stuff. Yesterday I worked for a few hours on that landscape piece. Made decent progress on it. Today, I haven't felt like any art though I have thought about it a lot. I inked the my first drawing of Sorath. I'm remaking it for the card series. I was thinking I could just do the lines new and put it on top of the old. But I can shade so much better that unfortunately I think it needs to be a complete redo. Sigh.

I spent most of today uploading photos to Flickr. The more I put up the less and less info I wrote out. I just don't feel like it anymore. Not there anyway. I just have so many it's the easiest place to post them and then use that to link here. I have to transfer most of those to DA next. UGH.

Henrietta is still living inside in her nest box. The flock is so different without Rhode Island Reds. It's much more peaceful and quiet. The girls only squawk when they lay eggs. Easter Eggers and Black Copper Marans are very mellow breeds. When Henrietta does go out there she's loud and kicks the other hens. She's the personality for sure. But I kind of like the flock under Zucca's leadership.

I got a nepenthes in the mail today. One of the orders I placed with Kaetarin's gift. I'm waiting for a few more but they haven't shipped yet. I think they will ship on Monday. I got a Nepenthes tobiaca. Nothing special to look at since it's young and all young nepenthes look the same. I'll take pics once it gets bigger and colors up.

Ok so time for photos. I don't know how many of these photo posts I'll make because I have so much stuff to share. I'm guessing at least three posts. Since my finger hurts to type I may not add descriptions to some. So this is part 1.

My small luggage

My luggage the day I was about to leave. I stuffed my heating pad in there for my back. That was an excellent move on my part. I used it on the train and at the house. AND I packed my cute macaw that samanthafalco gave me. He went traveling with me.

Other view of Tampa station

Tampa FL Amtrak train station. Chris is in the center wearing the blue shirt.

Joel 2 rides the train

I have named him Joel 2 temporarily until I can think of something better. So Joel 2 is riding the train in my room.

Riding the window

Joel 2 in the window.

Dinning car

The dinning car

Half chicken

I wasn't impressed with my meals. The chicken was dry and I put dressing on it to make it better. It was half a chicken. Way too much for one person. I only ate the wing and some of the breast. I ordered coffee in my room. That was nice.

Seat in my room lower view

This is one of the two seats that faced each other. The window was on the left. You can see my small luggage on the right.

Toilet, sink, seat

The other seat across was nice too and you get your own private toilet and seat in your small room.

Mirror and sink in room

Here you can see the sink folded up and mirror. That thing over the seat is the bed.

Warp Seep dinning

Warp Speed breakfast

Amtrak Cary station

Cary NC station. Way better than the crappy Tampa one.

Entrance to Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden

Entrance to Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.

Garden Seal

Stain glass dome

Awesome huge stained glass ceiling of the visitor center at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.

The greenhouse

Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden greenhouse had lots of orchids and succulents. Earthmother you would have LOVED it. You came up in conversation a lot this day.

Tiger Swallowtail

Floating plant

Arch ways

Tilandsia arch way. So far this has all been inside that greenhouse.

More succulents

Orchidarium. These were special to be put behind glass.

This is a neat sign

This was a big plant and kept dropping babies on the ground.

I forgot the name of this plant

Huge long founatin

There were fountains everywhere. This was the biggest one.

End of the fountain

Water arch

Water arch

Giant garlic garden

Giant garlics in the onion garden.

Fallen giant garlic

I thought these fallen garlics were lovely.

Stream's end

This was a cool fountain. It was like a long river. See it goes behind that bush? It came out the other side and kept going and going. I LOVE little rivers and creeks.

Round fountain by itself

This one was small and all by itself.

Neat unkown

I don't know what these are but they were so cool.

My kind of park

Now that's my kind of park!

For Earthmother45

I took this for Earthmother45.

Bottles in the garden 1

Squash veggie garden

They had several squash growing. They had a veggie garden. Marie Selby doesn't have a veggie garden.

Store display

This was in the store. They had so many nice glass birdbaths. I like the blue one in the lower right.

Glass birdbath in store 2

Barn Swallow flying past baby

Barn Swallow flying past a baby on the ledge.

Baby Barn Swallow peaks down

This cute baby swallow was on this ledge after its first flight. The whole flock flew past trying to encourage him to fly.

Baby barn swallows closer

The other baby swallows

Well that's it for now. Next will be a photo dump of Discover Place which was a science museum like our MOSI. BTW, if you want to see ALL the photos from this post they are In This Set.

Amazing photos!!! Awww, I LOVE the ones with Joel 2, the one with him looking out the train window is my favorite!!!

The train food looks really good, mmm, but I hate when chicken is too dry.

Haha the tree with the bottles on it reminds me of something me and my cousins did similar to that. We were at a party at my aunt's house, and we snuck off with the discarded bottles and slipped them onto the bare branches (like your photo) on a dead bush in the backyard.

Thank you. I knew you'd like the pics of him. We had so much fun playing with him. My friend wants to add you here so it's ok.

Actually none of the food was good. The breakfast food was better, but then you can't mess up cereal.

That's cool. Garden art.

I love the picture of the stained glass dome. It's nice to see it without having to crane my neck up. I love the baby swallows too. I had trouble seeing them, so I'm glad you got good pictures of them. I love the glass birdbaths too.

edit: Forgot to ask. did your cactus babies get roots?

I'm so glad that turned out. I took it three times and that one just happened to line up right. I'm glad you could see the swallows now. They are adorable. That little face looking over the ledge is awesome. I got like four pics but that was the best one.

YES! All of them are much bigger than when they were in that cup. I'm amazed by the growth. I'll post pics of that eventually.

The train is interesting. I've never seen an overnight cabin before.
I LOVE the botanical garden! So pretty! I know my mum and I would love to go to a place like that. I particularly like the archways. The little swallows are cute too! I can see how the meal would be too big. It would be just right for me but half a chicken is a bit ridiculous for people with regular appetites. And the dryness. Blegh. My plane food has been better than that.
Des: Travelthagirion on July 28th, 2013 01:09 am (UTC)
The over night train rides were some of my favorite things about this. I didn't like the regular train when I had to ride with other people. It was a very nice garden. I like the one here in Sarasota better and I loved the one at the university best. I'll post about that one soon. I loved those little swallows. They made me so happy. Yeah that was too much food and it wasn't good. I too have had better airplane food.

I've never seen a sign that actually welcomes people to walk on the grass! How awesome is that?
Des: Ophidius Pleasedthagirion on July 28th, 2013 10:51 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I was happy about that sign. It was on the ground so I even stepped on it.

Many of these photos are lovely! Joel 2, such a cute macaw. Aww...

Loved a lot of the botanical garden pics! The brass peacock circle on the floor, the stained glass ceiling, that gorgeous humming bird stained glass bath...

The archways were amazing to look at! I know my dad and I would love to go through places like this. 8D The fountain with the river is cool... And swallows! You captured some very nice pics of them!

I think the pic of the plants you couldn't recall look like bundles of cherry tomatoes to me...

Thanks. It was fun taking him on the trip. I'm glad I brought him and had something to play with.

It was very pretty there. A different kind than what I'm used to.

I loved seeing the swallows. It was on of my favorite things.

They kind of do look like tomatoes. They were very neat.

You were in Cary, NC??!!
I don't know if I said this but I lived in Cary!
Such a nice family town, but it's a bit crowded for a "small family town", but really nice and safe.

I've always wanted to travel on a train, it looks like it would be nice and relaxing.
Not having to drive is always a plus in my book. (^-^)

The pictures you took of the garden are breathtaking ~

I really like your work =D
Des: Travelthagirion on July 29th, 2013 11:48 am (UTC)
Hey welcome back.
Yep, Cary was my stop over on the way to Charlotte. Too bad we didn't meet but I know you were on vacation too. I was at that station on the 16th for 3 hours.

It's definitely nice when you get your own room. Didn't like the normal train as much though. But it's so cool that the trains go all over the nation. I was looking at the maps and it's really impressive.

Thanks. I'm glad you liked it. I will have videos soon. BTW, on my sidebar I have a link to a place where you can add pretty colored borders to youtube videos when you embed them. I love using that.
Shannon シャノン: winkshampoo_neko02 on July 30th, 2013 03:51 am (UTC)
I don't live in Cary anymore. :(
I'm in Oregon now, but I do miss North Carolina.

I havn't watched the video's you made yet, I'm going to watch them tomarrow morning before I go to work. My son is wanting me to read to him. Sorry to cut it short. bye...

I'm glad you showed pictures of the inside of the train and your room. I could easily picture you there. I've wondered what the rooms looked like. So compact and that is pretty neat you had your own little toilet.

The botanical gardens are beautiful! I love the stained glass Rose Window in the ceiling. I can imagine how awesome it looked in person!

I recognize many of the succulents. The Tillandsia archway makes quite a statement!

The plant that you say kept dropping the babies, that is one of the succulents I gave you that is also called "mother of millions." Hope all your plants from me are doing well. Unfortunately two of the smallest pitchers on the Miranda have dried up completely. But good news is the big new growth of leaves that was coming out the top has about doubled in size. Maybe it just went into shock from being divided. Hope yours is doing well.

And I think I see a blue agave in one of the pictures, too.

Thanks . . . I loved the "waiting to be occupied" chairs! Beautiful birdbaths and cute bottle tree.

That is a nice little story about the barn swallows.

Looking forward to more.

Yes, I really wanted to show that. It was one of my favorite experiences. I have videos of the train too I will post here soon. They are already on youtube. That was the smallest room. They have one size bigger that's not so cramped on the train I went to. Some trains have a room that's bigger still but not on the Silver star. But just for me this tiny room was perfect. I thought the room on the cruise ship was small, not after being on this train. Having my own toilet and sink was so cool!

You would have loved that stained glass. It was huge. I knew you'd recognize the succulents. I know you would have loved this garden and greenhouse. I thought of you so much. I have planted 75% of the plants you gave me. They are doing great! I need to show an updated pic of my front garden.

Yeah, the plant was in shock from dividing and repotting. It's ok that the pitchers are dying, the important thing is new growth which sounds like it's coming in nicely. I can't wait for my first pitcher on my miranda. Then you'll know it's established and acclimated.

Yes there was a blue agave and lots of other neat little agaves there. I liked the glass birdbaths so much. Wish I could get one. Even if I could have it wouldn't have fit in my bag.

The swallows were one of my favorite things. Yes I have lots more. Next will be Discovery Place and I have some videos to share too.

The train pics look just like the ones in the ad. You had your own comfy, private room. Good move to bring the heating pad!

That was an awesome garden. I would have wanted to walk under that water arch. Did you?

And it's hard to get pics of birds, so I'm so glad you got those swallow pics. That fledging was cute :)

BTW That sucks about your finger. I hope you get to play your bass soon!

Oh, and that is interesting the Henrietta is clucky and now the rest of the flock are much quieter - with Zucca in the lead.

The train was a great new experience. I hope I can share that one day with Chris. We missed each other so much we're still saying things like, "I'm so glad you're back. I missed you." And, "I'm glad I'm home with you."

Yes we went under the water arch. I don't have any pics because I packed my camera so it wouldn't get wet. I got wet. It was fun.

That flying swallow was such a lucky shot. Usually my bird photos come out so blurry.

My finger is better today. I hope I can find time and motivation to play.

Yeah the flock is so different without the reds. Much better behaved. Zucca doesn't lead the others over the fence.
kabuldur: Asterkabuldur on August 1st, 2013 08:35 am (UTC)
Haha, I've read your reply now :)

I'm glad you went under it. It would have been fun, and cooled you down if it was a hot day. and I don't blame you for putting your camera away!

I'm glad your finger is better and I hope you get the motivation to play some bass :)

Great photos. The botanical garden looks awesome, I was at a similar one once in Monaco and I loved it. They are great to just walk through, relax and get inspired.
So awesome plants...

Oh and the swallows are sweet. :D
Des: Purple Coneflowerthagirion on August 2nd, 2013 02:25 pm (UTC)
It was very pretty. I'm looking forward to uploading the ones from the university next. It was way smaller but much cooler. They had better plants.
Those little swallows were so adorable!
