Great response, procrastinating and pitcher video
I'm very happy with how well received my drawing of Fly with Me was on DA. It really was one of my simpler drawings, but when I asked people what they liked about it a lot of them said the background. I'm very glad but at the same time it amuses me because it's so simple. Basically it's just a gradient. Anyone can do that. Then I added clouds, stars and a moon. Was easy but I'm glad people liked it so much. I've also been hearing people say they really like the way I shade. Now this makes me very happy because I still struggle with light and dark. Shading and lighting are what are the most difficult thing for me and sometimes I feel I still could do better. After I lay down the flat colors is usually when I get stuck and stare at my pics trying to figure out what I will do. I start laying down shadows where ever and if it looks good I go with it. Often times because of this "try and see" method I have to start all over. I had to with this pic on Ophidius's hands when I first shaded it as it was all wrong and looked terrible. But I fixed it and all that matters is finally product. People don't see the struggle and I guess they don't have to know that. I'm happy to thank them. I look forward to the day (if it ever comes) where I will be comfortable and and know what I'm doing with shading. I have always known I'm a good artist and have always been proud of my art. But lately with all this stuff I have been making I feel I have really improved and I really do feel like a pro. A lot of my stuff has always been better than most cartoons and even looked like screen caps. But I don't know why that ever since I started drawing Ophidius I just really feel great that I can run with the big boys and I do! I have been accepted into some quality control groups. That makes me happy. And I'm always happy to see people add my pics to their faves in custom folders with neat names. I had three folders added that made me very happy: Great Stuff, Awesomness and Best of the Best. Yep those were the names people had chosen and put my art into.

And now here I am on LJ procrastinating again. I have drawn the pic of Ophidius I mentioned yesterday with the brush. But then I realized after making it that if that's a representation of me he shouldn't have a brush and a pallet. I can't paint. I hate painting. I suck at it and I don't enjoy it. When people think of artists they think of painters because that's what it's been through most of history. So I redrew him holding my tablet and my stylus instead. It turned out way better. Just awesome and even the pose I have him in. I'm inking it at this moment. But I wonder if I should ink both. I'm also thinking of adding his knives to this same pose though I'd hate to erase his stuff but he'd look great with both his knives too. But I was very amused after I drew it because it's my actual tablet he's got in his hands. That's twice now he's holding my equipment. He's got my camera in the other and now my tablet. All that's left is to represent the traditional art I make and give him my magic pencil and my clear green clipboard. Haha, may-be I will.

Ok, earthmother45 mentioned she's wanted to see a pitcher catch a bug. I got a nice video of a pitcher that almost caught a wasp. The wasp actually fell in but then somehow escaped. I was disappointed it got away. All my pitchers have been catch lots of wasps lately. So check this out. It's just under two minutes.

May-be one day I'll be at the right place at the right time and catch a successful predation.

actipton80, the breeding with Tesla and Optic is just not working out. I'm disappointed because those two would be wonderful to breed as they have great personalities. Both are calm and sweet birds. Plus the possibility of lacewings. Tesla has two brothers though and I have an extra blue female. They are brothers from the same clutch as Tesla. Do you think there's a potential for lacewings there?

Budgie colors

They are gorgeous budgies. They are the blue green one on the far left and second on the right.

Sometimes its the simple things people like. Strange really. You can put huge effort into something and not get hardly any interest and yet when you do something easy, people can love it. Shading can be a challenge. When I did that Space Ghost pic, I coloured the fire first so I could SEE the light source lol! It made it easier. I love when my art is added to folders with awesome names like that.

You've finished that pic now!

We don't get many wasps although I had an epic battle with one at work the other day. Mum hates wasps, she'd be glad of the plants catching them!

Yeah it's funny how it worked out that way. But I'm glad they did like my complex background on the budgie coatl I made. In fly with Me I didn't put the Moon in until later. I had already done the shading. I just knew which side the light was coming from that time. But yeah it is hard for me.

Yes, I need to post it here now. I've got friends that are only here on LJ.

Yeah my other pitchers have caught lots of wasps. It's been great.

That is such a cool wasp video. Thanks for making it and putting it up here. It looks like it was tasting or testing what was there, and also that he got something on his head and was trying to clean it off. I love the way he moved around so carefully. I'm not a fan of wasps at all, especially when they secretly build nests in the worst places, but I love their ways. They are fascinating.

You are a fine & talented artist! And yes, no one (except another artist) knows what we go through to achieve the finished product, nor do they really seem to care. I've found it is kind of useless to ever try to explain to a layperson much of anything, unless they ask and really seem interested and want to know.

I'm glad you liked the video. I don't mind wasps as long as they aren't after me. I have never been stung by one and hope it never will happen. BUT, I almost always cheer for my plants to catch bugs. But not all bugs. I woudln't want a Sphix moth to fall in. Yes, he got the sticky nectar on his antennas and had to clean them. The pitcher lip or peristome is slippery. They are designed that way so bugs fall in like this one did. The nectar makes bugs drunk too that it's so yummy. They secrete it from the lid and the peristome. Some of my pitchers make so much nectar they literally drool. Yeah, I love how powerful wasps are.

Thank you. I'm currently working on rendering a sped up version of the pic I made today. I recorded aroun 80 minutes of my digital work. I'm trying to squish it down to at most 10 minutes. May-be 11.

Congratulations on being put in the Best of the Best, Great Stuff and Awesomeness on dA. Haha, I am one of those people who responded to the night sky. I will always like night sky.

I think that's an awesome idea to have Ophidius holding your tablet and stylus.

That's a pretty wasp. It's cool that you know which one it is. It was interesting to see its feet slipping on the peristome. I think it was too big and strong to get caught by the pitcher. Maybe they were designed for smaller bugs. I like how I could hear your budgies and pigeons in the background. And your budgies are very pretty :)

Thanks. Those are other people's individual folders and not offical DA folders but still cool that people placed me into them.

I'm glad you like the idea. I turned out well.

Wasps are neat to look at. Nope that one got away and I don't know how. Those pitchers do catch wasps, but that one got lucky or knew what to do. I love the sound of budgies and pigeon. Thank you. Those are some of my favorite budgie colors.

Sorry for the late response. I've been gone. Is the opaline budgie a Tesla brother? If you want lacewings with good markings, I would use him. You can get them from his other brother (the dilute?) but then there would be a possibility of any lacewings with bad markings because the dilute would wash them out. I had originally picked Tesla for test mating purposes specifically because he is a green budgie. That was to determine if he was split to blue or YF. Finding that out would in turn determine if Peep was white or a double factor YF which can show up as white. If you don't care about who carries which colors, and just want lacewings, any Tesla brother would work.

Now I need to watch that Nepenthes video after I finish catching up on email.

I do want to find out what Peep is and what Tesla is but Tesla and Optic aren't cooperating and Tesla's getting older and so are his two brothers. Him and Optic have had the nest box for months now and nothing. Same with the last blue female. I need the next generation. It's worrying me. Ok so the brother with the black on his wings will be the one.

I forgot you were going out of town since you didn't make a post about it. I remembered you mentioned it when I didn't hear back from you days later but not the details. I don't remember stuff like that unless I'm reminded about it often. I don't remember anyone's birthday as you'll see Silvolf and I were talking about that. I need to see wish lists and stuff like, "My birthday is in five days."

Ok, I think you'll like that video.
