My bird dish idea worked!
I updated my sidebar the other day. I forgot to mention it. I haven't updated it in ages. I added some things to my to do list. My more up to date and daily changing list is on my DA though. I just have more room there than on this skinny sidebar. I got rid of my Dragon@dopter links. My dragons all grew up and I just don't give a dang about that place anymore and their crappy rules. I had my fun and between Chris and I we had like 10 accounts and almost 14 dragons on two of them. The art there got worse and worse and it was less about dragons and more about putting wings on other animals and calling them dragons.

I have basically finished the pic of Sorath on my nepenthes arbor. I just need to add the red shapes to his face and define his eye bulge a little. So then the next pic will be painting a budgie on there.

Sorath almost done

This is so nice. I love it.

Sorath side with planets

I got all his planets except Uranus done. It was still wet and it got hot so I went back inside and will shade it later.

Roof reworked

I have room for seven more baskets on this. I redid the roof and extended it. Now the south facing plants aren't getting burned anymore. I really want to build another one of these by the kitchen window for both nepenthes and bird feeders. I think this is a great invention.

Ok now onto my other invention. Ever since I first visited earthmother45 I loved the rings she had on her trees for pots. But they don't sell them anymore at Lowes or HomeDepot. I have been thinking for a long time how I can get my own. I looked some up on ebay and they are so darn expensive. Up to $10 or more per ring. WTF? While I was feeding my cockatiels the other day I noticed their food dishes. They were rings with washers and I slide the bowls of food and water in and out of them everyday. I got one of my potted plants and put it in and it fit! I thought then why not use these for my own pot rings? The only thing I was worried about was screws being too short. So to experiment Chris bought me this today from the pet store.

Food cup for plant project

It's a small one and can only hold 3 inch pots. It was $5. The big ones are $10 just like the regular rings are. But I needed to see if it would hold and if it needs a longer screw. Also if it doesn't work I can still use these for the birds.

Bird dish ring planter

So I drilled a hole and screwed this in. For a fairly short screw it felt really sturdy.

Nepenthes in the ring

Nepenthes in a ring! It works! Now I DO want the larger rings.

Great spot for nepenthes

Earthmother, you wanted to see the whole swing. Here it is. Looks like the right side is falling apart. I wish I had thought of this last year. I don't know how long this will last. I need to study it and take good pics and I can probably just rebuild it myself once it does fall. I want to repaint it yellow and pink. I still have a long way to go on this to add more plants to it.

So that's been what I have been working on plant wise. So I really want to paint a budgie on this and Quetzalcoatl along the top somehow. I think this will be an on going work in progress as far as the paint job goes.

Remember how I said I felt satisfied with nepenthes a while back? That was crazy talk. I don't. I want more now. I went on the websites like I shouldn't have and saw some I want. And of course one that I was watching got sold. It's so annoying waiting for payday sometimes because things get sold like that. I hope I get some commissions soon. I really need the money to help pay for the trips too.

I started coloring the Believe pic yesterday. I will work on it some today and hope I can finish it. We'll see how far I can get by tonight.

That's a great idea for the pots and Sorath looks cool! It's always nice to customize things.

Thanks. I think it's cheaper if I order them online than buying them at the pet store. They are a bit over priced there. I love customizing too. I'm glad you like him.

Your arbor looks great. That was a good idea to customize it with your own art.

Your ring invention is very clever! I'll have to look into that, as I'm always wanting more rings for pots.

An excelllent idea for the old swing set. You know what else I would do . . . Get some big hooks (maybe three of them) and screw them in to the bottom of the 2x4 that is the top support and hang more plants.

Thanks. I had a feeling you'd like it. I hope to cover almost all the areas with my art. It will take a long time.

You might be able to get them for less at feed stores. They are kind of expensive at pet stores.

Yes, I have that in mind already. I'll be adding way more than 3. I just don't have any more hanging pots right now so that's why I haven't done that.

Des, this is a fantastic idea for pot holders. I hang flower baskets from the top of an old swing set in my backyard. It would be neat to have pots up the sides as well. I may have to try out your idea, if you don't mind.

I like how you're incorporating your art into your garden. Have you considered making a sculpture of any of your characters?

Thanks. Yes, please use my idea. I post these things to help others out. I'm glad you like it.

Yes I have tried to sculpt a few times and I would LOVE to have action figures of all my characters. But I suck at it. It's a very different art and I can't get them to look at the high standard I would want them at.

Cool, thanks. My feed store in town didn't have the holders and I completely forgot to stop by Petco when I drove by this morning. I'm eager to try it.

I was just thinking how cool it would be to see one of your characters peeking out from a shrub or tree in your yard, hehe. But I'm glad you gave it a try.

Petco should have them. I got mine at petsmart.

Hehe that would be very cool. I went to Michael's today and saw a bunch of toy dragons and had the idea to chop them all into pieces and make my own Quetzalcoatl. I'm very excited about this, but they are expensive so it won't happen over night.

Your Nepenthes arbor looks cool with Sorath on it. How original. No-one else in the neighbourhood will have one of these!

Good diea to use the bird feeder ring. Very inventive!

Haha, you shouldn't have gone on those sites!

Thanks. It will be nice if I can fill it with all my art over time.

I'm glad those rings worked. Even with the short screws I think they will be ok.

I know. Now I keep looking and hoping the plants I want won't get sold.
