On the mend
I have been taking the antibiotics and they are working. Hurray for modern medicine! I could not type with my left hand for a few days and when I did I was making some really bad errors. One was funny. I was talking to someone about sharks and snakes and I said "Shakes" instead of sharks. That was so funny and wrong. I could not make a closed fist for a long time. Now I only have a red spot in the middle knuckle and can close my fingers most of the way. I'd say 98% of the swelling is gone. But my hand itches in the mornings. I have also been soaking it in hot water. That's part of the treatment. I'm so glad it was that and not ice because the cold hurts me. I have to go in for a follow up next week. Probably on Weds. I'm so glad this is working and no other stuff will need to be done. Oh and I'm also eating yogurt to make up for loosing good bacteria. Lactobacillus are cute.

Today is an anniversary, but Chris has to work. I hope tomorrow will turn out to be a day off with no calls coming in.
A hawk came to the window yesterday and scared all my indoor birds half to death. Poor Abigail crashed into a wall trying to get away. It was a pretty red shouldered hawk. I got some great pics of him with a mean bluejay. I'll post them eventually. I put more plants outside. That was great. Nepenthes are slowly starting to get pitchers in. I think this year will be a good one. I'm also happy that I don't feel the urge to buy lots of plants this year. There are still some I want of course but it's not like it was the past two years.

I ordered two books from Amazon. One is the Birds of Mexico, Belize & El Salvador. I can't wait to get that book. It shipped a few days ago. It's coming media mail so it will be slow, but it's killing me. I want it now. I hope it has decent maps next to the birds. I don't want to pay more for shipping though so I got the cheapest one. That makes the wait hard though. I also ordered the art book for Rango. It shipped yesterday.

I am about half way done on my next pic. I have been using the tablet mostly because it's all right handed work. I am in the shading stage now of the first meeting between Malidicus and Quetzalcoatl. I need a better name for that piece. I hope to work in it today and since my hand is better get some writing done. Yes, there will be a lost memory story for Ophidius. That's the one that's on my mind the most lately and I need to start to write it. I think I have all the parts worked out for it. I need to finish transposing the first story as well which is what I was doing when my hand went bad. I have a friend on DA that's actually published books on Amazon and she has been inspiring me to work harder on my own stories.

I'm glad the antibiotics are working. Itching is good and means it's healing.

The little nepenthes you gave me that I repotted has died. The other bigger one (sorry I just don't remember names like you do) is doing great. I cut off all the old pitchers a few weeks ago and now I can really notice the growth.l

My tree orchids are all in full bloom right now. This seems to be the best year I've ever had for them and there are more blooms on each one than ever before. I've been taking pictures and will get around to posting them soon I hope.

Wow, about that red shouldered hawk coming to your window. Good thing he wasn't able to get inside. Looking forward to seeing the blue jay and hawk pictures.

Oh, well I'm glad it's a good sign then. I have never had an infection like this so I didn't know what was going on. Wish I knew how it happened so I can avoid it in the future.

I'm sorry the plant died. I feel bad about that because I feel I gave you a bad plant. I recently lost a rare one I was very upset about. The one you had was called Miranda and they can get huge and make foot long pitchers. I am growing a different hybrid for you. I cut it almost a month ago. The parent plant is doing excellent and has mottled pitchers that are kind of fuzzy. The little cutting seems to be doing well in its bag and on the 12th I will start to harden it off. It is called N. splendiana. I'm so glad your ventrata is doing so well. It's parent plant is a long vine again. I keep cutting that plant but it's a monster and keeps coming. I look forward to the pics.

My white orchid is still in bloom. I can't believe it's lasted so long and so are some of my mini phals.
I don't know if he was after my birds or just landed on the post near the window. I'll get the pics off the camera and try to post them tonight. I think you will like them.

If you had a tiny cut or scratch, or even a hangnail, germs can get in to cause an infection.

Oh, please don't feel bad about the plant. It did try to survive, but just wasn't meant to live for whatever reason. it was probably something I did or didn't do.

I've had orchids that have stayed blooming for three and sometimes four months before! But, those have all been inside. Still, these have been blooming for many weeks now and show no signs of fading yet.

Happy anniversary! I'm glad you're feeling better - it was sweet of Chris to type out your previous post. The waves look so much more awesome after Suzi's tutorial by the way!

Thank you. I think I'm close to recovering. It just feels itchy and tingly like it's asleep. Yeah, it's so nice he's helped me make my posts when I can't type. Yes! Her tutorial saved my drawing. So much better now. Now I want to do more ocean stuff.

I'm relieved that your infection is subsiding. About a month ago I was bit by a cat and my hand swelled with an infection. It really is painful. My doctor told me to keep using my hand when I mentioned that as the stiffness spread, I wanted to use it less. That was really hard to do!

I haven't seen a red-shouldered hawk before, just red-tailed. :) I'm glad your birds were all safe.

Thanks. Oh yeah, I've heard cat bites are some of the worst. I was using my hand less so I totally understand. I couldn't bend my finger and it hurt too much.

They are smaller than red tails and do have reddish shoulders. I'll post the pics in tonight's post.

Glad you're recovering. My poor Mum has a swollen finger. Its all red and cracked. She's been putting cream on it.
Argh I'm waiting for things in the mail too. Like a USB dongle for my new tablet so I can get wifi on it. Dad refuses to let us have wifi internet but a dongle will mean just my room can have wifi so I can use wifi devices just when I need to. I'll be able to use my 3DS online too. And Bolt art book which I ordered last week and it still hasn't shipped.

I have a friend who's published on Amazon too. I did some of the artwork for his book covers.

I must hit the keys pretty hard. In my last comment to you I hurt it again. So now I'm easing off and using my index finger again. It's so slow and hard to type that way for the letters E, D, C.

Yeah it's good to have that. Some of our game systems are wireless. I got my book! I will do a mini review of it. Now I'm just waiting for my Rango book. I hope you get your Bolt one soon.

That's cool. I thought about offering my friend that since it's about Falcons and I'm very good at drawing birds.

That's good that antibiotics helped your hand. It did sound like an infection to me and I was worried about you. I'm so glad it is so much better and you can do things again. How nice of Chris to type posts for you. I have yet to read them. I'm glad you knew to eat yoghurt to replace the good bacteria, too.
Desthagirion on May 6th, 2013 12:03 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I'm able to type again pretty well now. Aw, thanks. I should be ok now if nothing else weird happens. Yeah, he's helped me with posts before when I couldn't type. I got a mix of strawberry and banana and it's good.
