Coatl and new FF header
Today is another anniversary, but Chris had to work so we weren't able to celebrate today. That's ok though because he had the day off yesterday and we took the time to do it then. We went to a neat store called Shooter World. I'd never seen a store like that. It was like a department store for guns. I had only seen the crappy pawn shops and private stores. Everything was so clean and organized. I liked it. Chris left his shotgun barrel there because he wants it cut down to a shorter length. We're still waiting for them to finish that. There's a big waiting list.

He took me to Lowe's and my gift was buying me lumber. Hehe, that's what I wanted because I want to build a special post to hang Nepenthes from. He helped me get started on it. We got the post in the ground yesterday. I have to build the frame for the roof still. Then we went out to dinner to Ruby Tuesdays and I had a nice fish meal. Then we came home and watched UP. That movie always chokes me up because it's a perfect example of what Carl and Ellie are like are what Chris and I are like, only I'm less extroverted. Even the different styles we played as were like them. And I also worked at a zoo and showed parrots like Ellie, I love adventure, travel and have my heros from the past I look up to. So it's always sad when she got old and died.

Today it's rained all day. But the temperatures have been nice at least. I'm so glad I felt so good yesterday. But my back is kind of bad today. It's starting to hurt like before only this time on my right side. I hope I'm not laid up in bed again for another two weeks. That would suck. I want to work with wood and build things. But I'm ready to crank out the art if need be. Speaking of art, I have a third Coatl now. The Indigo Jay got put on hold. I redrew almost everything about him. I didn't like his face and he wasn't heavy bodied enough. And I want to draw all the scales but haven't been able to get it right. Snake scales are hard. So I started on another one instead and have succeeded in making a Blue Tree Budgie.

I changed it. Originally it was going to be a Green Tree Budgie. BUT I want to draw a jungle background and a green snake would vanish into it. Not only that but when I saw this though I liked it and I got the python head perfect...he looks way too much like the traditional version of Quetzalcoatl. And he'll really look like him if I keep him green. Luckily, green tree pythons come in the same color morphs as budgies! There are blue morphs and the genetics I think are even the same. So they have white tummies and blue tops and budgie have white faces and blue tummies. This works out so darn beautifully! So I think this will be much better. These two species mix so well! As well as mambas and peregrines and quetzals and emerald boas.

I hadn't changed my Fire Fox header since November. I still had a Thanksgiving theme. I got some Easter ones but they were not quite right. I found one that I liked but the text in the menu was hard to read. Then it hit me. Search for budgies! I found the perfect header during those non-holiday times.

And it's blue! I LOVE IT! Budgies flying at me. It's been great while I worked on this snake. I'll have to check out that site Paulas Wellies. I'm going to try to make some plant brushes. I think I'm going to really need them for this background I'll be making. The snake is easy, but the background's gonna suck. I hate drawing plants. I'm not quite sure how to go about it yet.

Current Mood: Not so good

I want to see that one colored definitely, especially if it is a blue mutation. One little nitpicky thing I've noticed since I have two normal budgies. The stripe on their wings doesn't go all the way out to the edge. The two outermost primaries are solid dark gray, the next one in has a white dot which is where the stripe comes to a point, and then the stripe begins on the next one. If you look closely at the skyblue budgie in the middle of the FF header, you can see what I'm talking about.

I love that header. It's so cute. I wish I could get pretty flight shots of my budgies.

*Grabs Optic*

Hey how about that! You're right. But on Optic the dot is on the second feather. I guess it can vary. But that first primary is solid. The light is bad and ate the dot but it is there on the second one.

I was using a green budgie as a reference but it is hard to tell in the photos exactly what is going on. Thanks for letting me know. That's easy enough to fix. I'm glad you're looking forward to this one. Yeah, I think it will be nice and different to have both of them be the blue mutation. But I know the background it going to be long and hard. So the first feather is solid. Cool!

I'm glad you like my new header. I thought you might. I wish I could get clear shots like that too. The most common flying budgie photos are of landings.

It probably does vary, just like throat spots vary. I think it's really tiny on my birds, so that feather looks solid to me. Use her tail as a reference too, In the center are the long blue feathers, then going out there is a blue pair with a diagonal white stripe, then there are four pairs of black and white ones. Rudy's tail is always messy and the feathers never line up, so I get a good look at them whenever he sits still.

I just looked at some pictures. The stripe goes all the way out to the edge on opaline budgies. But I assumed from the rest of the patterns you drew that you were using a normal budgie as a reference.

I know I got the tail right. That was easier for me to see. This is the pic I was using.

I didn't know that about opalines. In quetzals, the stripe is higher. It touches the coverts and it goes all the way out to the leading feather.

EDIT: FIXED!

Much better! I wasn't happy with the first one actually. Now he's right.

I love Up, I watched it with my parents not long ago. But yeah the beginning is sad.
Lovely work on the snake! I like the wings especially.
Blarg, I've made some FF headers and I was gunna make a couple more cos I wanted a new one for my netbook of Kurtz but at the moment they're migrating their servers so we can't make any. I've made Riktus, Zorak and Rakaen and I was really in the mood to do Kurtz and Zane ones. The budgie one is cool!

The beginning is my favorite part.
Thanks. This one was easy. I'm glad. Most of the others seem hard.
Do you have to register to make them? I saw you could rate them and wanted to give the budgie one a top score but couldn't figure out how. I love this budgie one.

Yeah you have to register. They're easy to make though.

I'm glad you and Chris were able to go out yesterday and celebrate.

Another nice drawing!

Hehe, you like gifts like I do - practical ones!

That's a very nice header. I like the budgies from all the different angles.

Me too. It was a nice day.
Thanks.
I like both practical and for fun gifts.
it makes it so much nicer having the budgies there than a boring solid color.
