First drawing of the year
A cold front has moved in. Last night and this morning it was in the mid 40's. We brought in all the nepenthes last night. I've been slowly repoting some that needed it. I have a few sick ones that I'm trying to nurse back to health. My fault. I hate how easy it is to forget them and then they dry out. I've got one bagged up right now that was one of my best last year during the summer. I hope I don't lose it. It's a hybrid I really like actually. When the substrate dries out it turns into concrete and it's so hard to rehydrate it. Some pots I may just have to totally repot even though it's still technically new soil. That or set them in water over night and hope it absorbs and softens up.

I got some artwork done today. I finally finished the pic of Caroline. It was meant to be an easy fast sketch with nothing spectacular and unfortunately that's exactly what it's turned out to be. I had finished the inking a long time ago and I did all the colors today in one day. I wish they would all go this fast but well quality suffers.

Shaky lines on the shading and very lazy background. It's so open with no detail. I'm not sure if I even want to count this as number one for my 12 for the year. I'm not sure if it's even worth putting on Flickr and Deviantart. May-be I'll feel differently tomorrow. Sometimes pieces I don't like I need to sleep and then they look good the next day. I don't know why that is. But right now I'm not happy with it. I know I can do better than this and I have. But right now I feel really geared up to work on art so good stuff should be in the works. I hope I have one of those major improvements soon. That hasn't happened in a while for me. I need to learn to draw snakes and werewolves this year haha, since that's the team up. I'm also giving thought to my dinosaur story. Both of them. Remember I was between putting it on my my account on DA or my fanart account. I don't want it to be more popular than my Thagirion Realm stuff, but it is original art even though one is a parody. And it is mine. They will get their own folders but they won't be featured on my gallery so hopefully that will help. I just don't want to start competing with myself again like I did when I had all my fan stuff mixed with my original stuff on my first account. But anyway, this was a good warm up for starting this year with art. This is definitely not a reference since I'm thinking of changing some stuff about her the way I did with Cope. Like I recolored his favorite shoes. I will redesign her shoes too and though I didn't like it at first in the Sims, I'm thinking of loosing the pants and have her coat be a coat and dress combo like in the game. Not sure on that yet. That means I'd have to draw socks on her...I've never drawn a character with socks haha. Eh, no I really don't know. As a scientist it's not practical for her to NOT wear pants. I'm still thinking about all this.

I like it. Sometimes its fun to just draw something simple. I know the feeling of doing a picture and then thinking I could have done so much better though.

Thanks. I'm glad you like her. Yeah, I get that feeling sometimes, definitely with this pic but I didn't want to put in the effort so it shows.

The smaller nepenthes you gave me dries out in one or two days. It is usually light as a feather when I lift it. I sometimes soak it in a bucket of water, but it only holds that for a few days. Do you think it needs to be in a different medium?

Did I give you that one in a green hanging basket? If so then it's the pot. It needs to be repotted. The medium is right but I've noticed those 5" green hanging baskets I have are terrible for retaining moisture. I have a few in those with the same problem and the light as a feather is a very bad thing. It will be happy to get into a bigger pot too because Mirandas get huge. You can pot it in either all Long Fiber Sphagnum moss or a mix of 1 part peat, 1 part long fiber sphagnum moss, 1 part orchid bark and 1 part perlite. I won't order those pots again and will not use them anymore.

She looks good! Pants do make a lot more sense for a lab setting. The scientist outfits in the sims are weird that way. I can't see a carnivorous plant tender wanting to walk around in pumps and stockings.

Thanks. Yeah, I've decided I won't change that after all since she'd follow basic safety in the lab which is pants and closed shoes.
