Excellent day yesterday Part 1.
Yesterday was just incredible. It wasn't a day off but is sure felt like it for both of us. Our friend Mike came over to chat for a bit. I finished bird chores and did plant watering. Breaking up the plant care to Mondays and Fridays has been great and much less work than doing everything on Friday. My Friday mornings were totally spent that way before. Then after that Chris got two calls in Sarasota. I wanted to go with him because I've been cooped up in the house for several days and I was going nuts because I haven't spent any real decent time with him since he's been working so much. I wanted to do something fun. I took my camera with me and we left. He dropped off paperwork to his boss and got some more work supplies. Then we drove off to Sarasota. I love long drives. On the way we had lots of nice conversations and talked about the .22 rifle I want. I think yesterday we went to a local gun shop and they showed me two models. There was a black one that was very nice but gosh it was still so darn heavy for me. I really need to work out my left arm. I'd seen a video where a guy named MD Prepper recommended the Mossberg Plinkster 702 because it was light, easy to use and cheap. I also liked that it was all black. We'd gone to Walmart but they never had it in stock and no one else had it. So I decided that we could have Walmart just order one for us. I also wanted some Christmas stuff from Walgreens. There was a light peacock I really wanted for my yard. Oh and I also ordered some Christmas cutouts from Party Cheap to make our house nicer inside.

The first job was nice. The people were very friendly. I took a super short walk because Chris found the leak right away. They had a wild cucumber growing on a bush and I ate one. I got cute pics of it. The lady was nice and gave me a container because she saw me saving the seeds. She let me have it and I collected a bunch more seeds. So cool! I took pics of her birdbath that had a ceramic dove on it that was cute. And she showed me this cool tree that had fleshy red star flowers with round dark green centers. I need to look up what those are. I think Earthmother45 had them on her journal once and also asked for an ID. I still need to find that.

Then we went to the second call which was very close. It was a gated community and when we entered I was floored by a beautiful marsh area that was so typical Florida habitat. I decided I would take a walk there. The owner told me there was a small butterfly garden in the other direction too. So I went off to search for that while Chris worked. While I was walking there were all these cute parachute seeds floating around. I love those. They are hard to catch because when you move towards them the little bit of wind your hands make pushes them away. I kept walking and found the source. It was a big flower bush with purple flowers that turn into white seed heads. It was so pretty making feathery seeds in the air. I also saw some robins which made me happy because I love the robins that visit for the winter. But I wasn't too impressed with the butterfly garden and the small pond. So I walked in the other direction to the marsh. When I got there it was spectacular.

There was a land strip between two bodies of water. They were lakes that had grass islands everywhere and it made me think of El Pantanal is South America which I would love to see. There were birds everywhere. Red Winged Black Birds were calling from the reeds, palm warblers were flitting around. Herons, coots, cormorants and gallinules were making noises some of which I had not heard. I'm terrible with bird calls but I love hearing unusual ones. There was a little dam with a concrete top that was skinny. There was no one around and except for a few lovely houses in the distance it felt like no civilization and I got that awesome feeling of being alone in nature. I felt like I was an Indian hunting. I had to walk across the dam. There was no sight saying I couldn't and I just had to since it was part of the adventure. When I got on it I found a dead baby little green heron. It was so small. Too bad, but I would look at it on the way back. I decided to take pics of myself on the dam. Not easy. And then I did cross to the other side. Everything was just gorgeous and awesome and way better than the boring empty man made lakes these subdivisions have. All the vegetation in the water made it very natural.

I came back to check out the egret. There weren't any feathers on him worth keeping. Alone they'd look like normal feathers. It's together they made unique patterns. He was cute. Poor little guy. I could have stayed out there for hours snapping pics, but I started getting a nervous feeling and a feeling I should head back. I realized I had the car keys on me and that if Chris was done he'd be stuck and he'd said he would come to get me. Well he can't. Also there was a divider in the road and nowhere for him to park or if he could even see me coming from the other way. All that made me worry and told me I should probably leave. So I headed back. I was right. When I got back Chris had just finished. I didn't make him wait luckily so my instinct was right. My only regret is I didn't get to share that experience with him. I know he would have loved it too. The marsh was my favorite thing about the day easily. There's a lot more to tell and I need to upload all the pics I took to share with you guys. I need to start my morning chores and I hope Chris can get an official day off. I'll make part two of this post once I get a chance.

Sounds like you had fun exploring. I love things like that too. I'm always very curious about the world around me and finding special places like that is always nice.
I look forward to hearing the second part!

That sounds like a beautiful day out and I'm glad you got to go out with Chris and have an adventure like that. That lady at the first place was nice, too.
