Making steady art progress
I have gone through and once again cleaned out my "friends" list here on LJ. Every few months I do that. I removed people that just haven't been around in over a year or just haven't commented on my journal in forever. If I removed you and you're wondering then that's probably why. I mention in my profile I expect active commenters and everyone that gets added knows that. It bugs me when I see them post a lot but remain quiet on mine. Then why add me? If you want to be added back PM me and re-read my profile rules. But right now I have it where the number of friends I have are the same as the number of mutual friends. I like that. I also helped draconisthanos clean out his friends list too. It's funny that I had one person I had removed and they haven't been active at all in over a year but as soon as I removed them they were quick to remove me. But they had left Chris on so I'm curious how long it will be before she notices he removed her too.

It's annoying how I don't have as much energy as I did before. I feel very tired but I'm still doing my best to get a few things done around the house. Because of this I haven't finished putting up my fall decorations. I need to clean before I put a lot of them out. Like the window clings. I need to clean the windows before they go up. I hope I can get a little further on that today.

But I have been making good progress on my art which I'm very happy about. I'm now working on the pic of Thanatos jumping off a crate holding his gun. At least that one isn't as old as Moment of Weakness was. But it's another one with over head lighting. Shading is always hard for me but over head lights seem to make it even harder.

I was on Ebay yesterday looking at the Cintiq art tablets by Wacom. I REALLY want one now. But they are very expensive even the used ones. I want the 12wx. Even though it's the smallest one the next size up is way too big. The next size up is also meant to be stood on the desk and you draw on it like an easle. I can't draw like that. I put my tablet in my lap and draw there. I really need to make a video I can show you guys how I draw. Haha, but I have to clean my desk first and that could take forever too. Anyway, the Cintiq has a monitor and I would be able to draw directly on the photoshop page and trace my art instead of trying to guess if I'm on the right spot with the normal tablet. I can also turn the tablet upside down just like paper if I have to. When I draw I rotate my pic quite often because some strokes are easier if they follow the normal flow of your hand. That's one thing I hate about the tablet I have. I'm forced to make the difficult strokes and the image stays the same way. I heard that Wacom isn't going to make these anymore so I makes me worry and I really want one.

I'm not sure which pic I'll work on next. Either the one of Cope on his motorcycle or the one of Owen singing. I don't want to do the buildings on the Cope one, but we'll see.

I get to pick my first two gourds today. They're not that big or nicely shaped but it's my first harvest of this year. I'll try to film it. I like to make pumpkin patch updates on Fridays but like I said I feel so tired to do that this week. we'll see.

Oh and thanks so much to all of you that commented on my last two art pieces. I love that and it means a lot to me.

It's good to prune your list every so often. There's no point in keeping inactive accounts on there. If they don't post, you don't really know them anyway.

Congrats on your gourds! I need to take new pictures of my three soon, because they're getting huge. What kind of gourds did you pick?

That Wacom Cintiq 12WX tablet looks really nice! I didn't know they made tablets that set up with the easel stand. But wow, the price! I have a little Wacom Bamboo tablet, and it was a couple hundred if I remember correctly.

Exactly. If they don't comment it's like they aren't there anyway. I don't keep a list just to make it look like I have a lot of friends and I do go through and prune my lists on all my accounts every few months.

I planted birdhouse gourds but they haven't really done so well. I have some pointed cannon ball gourds that are doing pretty well and are very round and cute. I'll take pics and videos soon. Would love to see yours. Last time they looked awesome. I'm growing some swan gourds too on the ground because I want them to have the bendy swan necks.

Yeah it's retails for $1000. I watched some reviews on youtube and everyone said it is the best thousand bucks you'll spend. I have no doubt once I get over the initial sticker shock. I upgraded to my Wacom Graphire 4 and it's really nice but I just can't get used to it. I think a Cintiq would be just want I need to solve a lot of problems. Mainly inking wouldn't be as big of a chore anymore for me. Here's a promotional video about it.

I actually have one swan gourd growing on the ground. It's younger than the other two, so I didn't post the picture I took of it last time. Being it was still light green and the angle of the sun, it didn't really turn out. It looks more swan-gourdy now, though.

The cannon ball gourds sound really cool. Can't wait to see them!

Thanks for sharing the video. Seems like an awesome tablet. I hope you're able to get one!

This is last week's pumpkin update.
You can skip to 6:50 and see the cannon ball gourds. From there you also see my chickens.
That's cool you've got one that's swan shaped.

Lol a similar thing happened to me. I removed someone who hadn't been active in three years and as soon as I did, they removed me back. I don't even see them around the net anymore. They were a nice person and had good art but no matter. I guess they just moved on.
Glad the art is going well. I draw the same way and with my tablet laptop, digital art is really easy to do. The only problem is the laptop is old now and it really needs yet another new battery.

That's really stupid. Why would they just lurk about and not interact? I hate that kind of thing. I hate it when people change and become stupid.

I bet that's nice. I'd love to have something like that. I'll be glad when this Thanatos drawing is done. It's not been a fun one. I have to force myself to do a little everyday so it will eventually get done.

Sigh! I dream of a Cintiq too. I'm surprised the price hasn't come down on them more by now.
Des: WTF?thagirion on September 15th, 2012 12:34 pm (UTC)
Yeah they're almost as bad as the Adobe software that never comes down. I think CS6 is out now but if you try to buy even a used copy of CS3 on Ebay it's still $1000. WTF? I wish these companies would be more like Sony. Sony makes great software at afordable prices. It's for video and audio editing and their suite retails for $180 which is less than buy each program individually. It's afordable to people that can't buy through a company.

Ugh, does PS really cost that much? I should see if I can get a student edition. I used Photo Shop 5 until it no longer worked. But I'm really a CorelDraw fan. I had to purchase CorelDraw suite X5 a couple of years ago and that was $500.
Des: I Don't Get Itthagirion on September 16th, 2012 12:31 pm (UTC)
Photoshop by itself isn't that expensive. It's the entire creative suite that costs a fortune even if it's majorly out of date. I really just do not get that. Usually software plumets in value. I started with PS5 too! I still have my disk and wish I could still use it because it has a wonderful fuzzy brush no other version has. I then got 7 and now I use CS3. I hate the newer versions and refuse to upgrade. A friend of mine upgraded me without my permission to five and I made him put it back.
Calzephyrcalzephyr77 on September 18th, 2012 03:39 am (UTC)
Ah...there's nothing worse than a lost feature. CorelDraw X5 has a lot of things missing from CorelDraw 7 which is unfortunate. PhotoShop 5 was just perfect, really. Not bloated with features, just enough to get the job done!

That's great that you are making so much progress on your art. But bad that you don't have energy for housework and other things you need to do. Is your tiredness caused by your meds or your illness?

Congratulations on your two gourds. I would love to see any video you may manage to make.
Des: Cope trashedthagirion on September 15th, 2012 12:39 pm (UTC)
Yes, it's the meds that make me tired. I'm on a smaller dose now so it's not totally knocking me out like the first day, but they try.

I never got around to making the video yesterday, but I'll see if I can make one today. I'm glad you want to see.
