Drawings and pitchers
Yesterday Chris helped me plant two rows of pumpkin seeds. We made five holes per row with three seeds each. So that's 30 seeds total. If they all come up and make it that would be great. I'm not done though but 30 plants with one pumpkin each even would be an awesome haul. Oh and Happy Friday the 13th everyone. As always I've had good or normal luck today. Nothing out of the ordinary happened but I'm feeling a strong wave of creativity coming on. Awesome! More on that later.

Sunday I will be going to visit my friend earthmother45 and get my glass budgie. I have some cute things for her too. We'll celebrate my B-day early that day so I'm looking forward to it. Her house is so beautiful I'll be sure to take better pics this time around.

And that pitcher we've been watching finally opened. Check this out.

It opened!

Isn't that neat? It's big and redish orange.

Peristome still hasn't folded

Close up of the inside. Notice the peristome (lip) hasn't rolled all the way down yet. So technially it hasn't opened all the way yet.

Creepy pitcher

Here's how it looks from the back. I think this view is kind of creepy as it's like a big mouth. These kinds of plants I think seem more like animals than plants. They look fleshy and they eat. But that's probably why I like them.

I made some progress on my Jetshoe Kick drawing. I got the flats done and started on some of the shading on Cope's hair. I know some of you like to see the progress so here's where it is now. Yeah I guess showing this is more interesting than hearing me say what I'm working on and have to wait.

This is the stage where it's so tempting to give up. I look at this and think, "This looks like crap. I don't want to do this anymore. I don't know what to do next." I have to ignore that and remember that once I start to add shades and lights it will make a huge difference and not look so horrible. Because when I get to the end, the "I can't believe I made this." feeling is so worth it. But I really get to this point with each drawing and don't know what to do next. Not like where to start but just HOW to go about it. How do the shadows fall? Where will the lights go? Where's the light source. What will that cause? And in this one in particular. What technique will I use to make the jet lights? I think I will do them last though I'm tempted to do them first. I have two possible ways and I'm not sure which will be better. I may have to try both and see what works best. Try to do them like I always do with a white cone in the center. But since they're so long that white glow can't extend to the end I'm sure. Or do a transparancy and make it brighter and brighter towards the part coming out of the jets then add white? And which technique looks best and is least work? While I sit and think about these things time is wasting. So I just forced myself to start on Cope's hair which is always hard to shade anyway. I hate shading his hair. Lights are even harder on him. I approach each drawing like a math problem I guess. I suspect that's not a good thing and because I use my intuition to do it trail by error I think it's a failing of being an N artist. I think the S types are just better at this. Especially the SP's. So there it is. I don't think I'll show another one of these til it's done, unless it takes me too long or something.

Chris beat Dragon's Dogma the other day. I made Destina in the game which is perfect for her. The time period is almost right. She lived in old times but it was after medevil times were over. Chris changed his characters into him and me. So it's neat to see Chris and Des running around in the game. Me with Chris and Cope, and Owen and Davon. Rawr all these hot guys hehe. And Owen's so tall. I'm tiny next to him. Hehe.

Oh here's Chris in Mass Effect 3 as Commander Shepherd. No long hair in the military so this was the best hair to use.

He said that even though I did my best and picked the features that were most like his face he looks more like he did in high school. I used adult Chris as the model but he turned out like his high school pic which is inserted on the side. I've noticed that about these games. I guess because they make everyone look like teens or 20's. I don't often make myself in games but when I do I too look like my highschool pics. Especially the ones from Day of Reconning 2. Oh and Dragon's Dogma we had to pick the same short hair because there was only one with a pony tail and it was too high. Looked like an Asian fighter's hair. Chris wears his pony tail low in the back. He doesn't wear his hair loose, though I wish he would more around me since I love the metal look.

Anyway, I'm very creative right now. I felt it start today for some reason. I don't know why but I need to run with it again before it fizzles out again. Perhaps I should write but I definitely need to keep hammering out the art. I'm getting new ideas. Well not new. I'm seriously thinking of completely remaking Cope and Owen's chracter sheets. They're wrong now and look terrible. I can do better than that now. I also want to do two drawings of Owen that really show his gear that he wears well. May-be three. I want to show his helmet and his tanks. I also want to show the black bandana he wears over his helmet. I also want to show him actually using his fire because other than his awesome wings and channeling it on his sword I don't think I've ever done that. I just don't know how to go about it. Perhaps flames going down his arms. Not sure how I'd draw a fireball actually.

My dreams haven't been great lately which is why I haven't updated my dream journal in forever. They haven't been bad just blah, boring crappy. My dream life used to be so action packed. I don't know what happened. But I did have one dream that I have forgotten most of but kept enough that it made an impact on me. I got a visit from an old friend. I dreamt about SpaceGodzilla. I had and still do have a crush on him. He's a handsome monster after all. But I never realized that it's a love/fear relationship. He's beautiful and powerful and I value those qualities. But because of that he's fightening and deadly too. I'm listening to Helloween's Before the War right now. That song to me IS about SpaceGodzilla. I even made an awesome video of him in the 90's back before computers. I edited it using two VCR's and it took me 3 hours for a four minute video. It came out awesome! I have been making those videos like that long before youtube. So I dreamt about him. I don't know why. I know something had to trigger it because dreams don't just happen. I must have seen something that got into my subconscience. I have no doubt. But now I can't stop thinking about him with awe. I want to draw him. He's very easy for me to draw. I just hold back when I think about the horrible ink job I'll have in Illustrator when I get to that point. But I've often thought that if I got back into kaiju art I'd be one of the best. I was back in the 90's and I have no doubt I still would be now. To draw him flying through space would just be great. I could show what I'm feeling about him and how I see him. There's also a new very accurate figure of him out that I want. That probably caused my dream because it did make an impact on me when I saw it.

Oh gosh! Isn't he gorgeous?

EDIT: Oh and forgot to mention. Since quite a few people thought it was a good idea for me to make a board for the youtube pumpkin growers. I have started one on yuku. I worked on it a lot yesterday. I'm almost done. Didn't work on it today but once it's finished I'll announce it. I have to find nice icons for the buttons and such.

The picture's coming along nicely. But I hear you, my pics are the same as well before I shade them. Shading and colouring the lines really makes a pic come to life.

Chris looks good in the game. You have a definate likeness there, even if it isn't as he is right now. I love guys with long metal hair too :D
I used to struggle with fire but it seems to come naturally now. Maybe try looking at some photos of various fire things?

That's a cool figure. I love it when figures are well made and painted and accurate. I try to look at things I like before bed in the hopes I'll dream about them too. It works sometimes.

Yeah I'm amazed how coloring the lines makes a huge difference. I shade then color eyes last and then do lines.

Yeah, it's funny he looks like his younger self.
Fire comes pretty naturally to me actually, I'm just not visualizing it well for some reason.

I do stuff like that. I'd love to have that figure. He comes with his crystals he summoned from the ground and his beam weapon.

I don't think your drawing looks like crap. It has got such good bones and a good beginning. Many times when I didn't know what, how much or where to shade something in a painting, etc. I would place an object somewhere with a light source and study that. I think many artists, especially with personalities like we have take so much more time and put a lot of thought into many of the steps. We just can't be rushed. At least that is the way I am. I've got to do things in my own time.

That is amazing how you were able to make Captain Shepherd look so much like Chris.

Yes, I am looking forward to Sunday, too. I hope the rain holds off for the day. Enough for a while, at least here. I'm losing too many plants.

Oh, yes, and those pitchers are so beautiful! I love the scalloped zig-zag edges.

Thanks. Yeah, all drawings just look bad at this middle stage. It will really start to look better once there are more shades and like Silvolf said the lines are colored in. That makes a huge difference. This one is an odd one because Cope IS the light source. Those blue streams are going to be glowing so the shades are going to be complex and going in all directions. The parts closest to them will have blue light cast on them because of that. Also I have to hide part of in behind the other layer which will be a tricky things I need to figure out how to do. Probably with a mask.

I love making characters in these game. I just finished making Caroline who is Cope's wife. I rarely use her in anything and should draw her more often. Here's the only time I've ever drawn her. This was back in 2009 and I'm not so good at females.

Yeah it rained here again a few times. I filmed some of the rain and want to make it into a video soon.

Thanks, I'm very happy with how the pitcher turned out.

I'm really anticipating what comes up in your pumpkin patch. Godo luck with everything. May they grow well! And not be bugged by pests.

That's an awesome big pitcher. Congratulations on growing it! Yep, definitely does look creepy from the back :P

Sunday will be a good day. Earthmother does have such a beautiful house. It will be so good to pick up your glass budgie and just catch up with her.

Your Jetshoe Kick drawing is coming along. Don't give up! I know you can do it - I have faith in you. BTW, I would just do it on intuition - that's me - but each way (intuition or scientific method) is valid, and both look equally good at the end.

That's awesome that you and Chris are running about in the game. How cool!

Thanks. No sprouts yet but probably soon. I've noticed pumpkins come up in as fast as two days.

I'm glad about the pitcher. It's bigger thant he pitchers it came with when I bought it.

I'm really looking forward to tomorrow for a nice relaxing day with her.

Thanks. I'll try to work on that drawing today. If I can get some decent shadows down it will look way better. You're an intuitive like me so I'm not surprised you would do it the same way. The S types (sensing) it seems to come more natural to them.

I need to get pics of us in the game.

That pitcher is really cool!

Your pic is coming along well. I like the rainbow look on Cope's gun. For the light source, an artist friend of mine once suggested to create a throwaway layer where you put a blob that's supposed to be the light source so you can have it there to refer to constantly, and then just delete it when you're done. I'm still fairly novice at shading, but I found it helpful.
Des: Drawingthagirion on July 16th, 2012 11:28 pm (UTC)
Yeah, Cope loves his colors. I have to add little lines between them to show that they are different settings. I've heard of that technique. In this case it's tricky because those blue lines are the light source. It's coming from almost all directions. Shading is hard I think and no picture is the same so you can't just follow an easy set of rules.
