I got my T-rex
Want to welcome schwarzdrache to my LJ. Hope to see you around here. Glad to have another artist watching me. I post art questions from time to time when I get stuck. But not right now.

I didn't get to work on any of my own art today which was disapointing. But I got my T-rex in the mail today. That was fast. I really was not expecting it especially since it was coming from England I thought it would take much longer. Box got squished but there was no damage thank goodness. I'll share pics in a second.

Chris and I went out on a date. It was so nice. I treated him to Red Lobster because I really wanted to eat a fish. I had my usual broiled rainbow trout. Then we went to Toys R Us, Michael's and Target looking for Papo figures. No luck. Micheal's quit carrying them so that REALLY sucks. I don't think I can get them locally anymore and I'm not happy about that. I really like going to a store and getting my hands on figures and looking at them and paying without shipping. Now if I want any I need to buy them on Ebay or over seas. There are three companies that make educational toys, Papo, Safari and Schleich. Unforunately Schleich is the worst with detail and they are available almost everywhere here. I did pick up a tube of "pet" animal minis by Safari. Only one reason I got it. Just like with the old bird set it comes with a budgie and this was a green with a yellow head I didn't have. So now I have two budgies. If I had money to throw around I'd buy more of those and repaint the budgies to my favorite mutations. The reason I want some of the Papos is I want a custom Destina figure. I'll have to merge their pirate girl with a knight figure and repaint her hair to brown and if possible her eyes to green. I feel pretty confident I can do this. I just need to get extras because I'm not going to mutilate the ones I'm keeping.

Ok so here's my new dinosaur.

Papo running rex

This is an excellent figure that I have very few complaints about. After having owned the smooth JP version for several years this figure is very different. The first thing I notice is that he looks old. You can see his ribs and he's got lots of growths on his head unlike the younger adult rex. The pose is accurate to how the moved in life which is great. My only complaint is the teeth are not realistic to what you find in T-rex skulls. They made his teeth more like those of a monster, though it also goes along rather well with the old decrepit look of this guy.

Papo running rex close

Close up of the detail on his face and teeth. Closed mouth. The fact that Papo makes articulated jaws for many of their theropods is nice and well done with the hinges on the inside where you can't see them.

Papo running rex mouth opned

Close up of the new Papo running T-rex with his mouth open. Here you can see what I mean about my only complaint being his teeth and jaw. The lower teeth were not positioned like this in their skulls and they did not porturde into the upper jaw. They made his teeth more like a monster's than a real animal's. That's sad but at the same time I can see how this works well to give him that "elder" look. Who knows if he's had his jaw dislocated in fights over his long life. The lifted tongue is a nice touch making it look like he's roaring when his mouth is agape.

Two rexes comparison 01

Here is the new Papo running rex that I just got next to the original green T-rex based on JP I think from 2008. They are bot hvery nice figures. You can really see how the original is a smooth clean adult while the 2012 rex is old and decrepit. He's much thinner and I imagine he's a male while the JP one is likely a female since she's so robust.

You can see the diffrences in their mouths too, with the original on the right being accurate.

Two rexes comparison 02

Mouths closed.

T-rex pair 01

The new Papo T-rex is a great compliment to the original JP green one. They make a great pair with the new figure possibly being a older, decrepite gracile male. The female has a very bird like look here.

T-rex pair 02

Papo velociraptor full body

My raptor. I love this figure. It's been a great ref for my art.

Papo Spinosaurus

Spinosuarus likes fish

Mmm, lunch

Mmm lunch! Spino was a fish catcher and eater.

Wow, the T-Rex figure looks awesome. So detailed and well painted. And soo tempting... XD I love Dinosaurs.

My favourite toy when I was a child was a JP Raptor figure, I still have that one but it has lost most of it's colours because I used it so often to play with it. XD

It's beautiful! I got it form a store in England called Utterly saurus. But on Ebay. I don't see it on their website. I definitely recommend it if you want one. The other T-rex is very nice too.

I probably have the same figure since I have a lot of JP toys. Raptors are the best. Love them.

They're all great figures and I love the details and how their jaws open with no visible hinges.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm so impressed with how well made they are. They have cool jaws.

With the top two photos, the teeth strongly remind me of what you find on the saltwater crocodiles here in Darwin.

Love the last picture where it looks like he is about to eat your fish.

Yes, Spinosaurus had a croc like face and snount. Most likely comes from being a fish eater.

Hehe, I waited a good while for that to happen and glad I finally got the shot.

You got a very nice T Rex there! I was wondering about the teeth. I thought maybe it might have a few missing because it was so old. Anywaym still awesome!
Desthagirion on May 4th, 2012 04:13 pm (UTC)
Thanks. Yeah, I think they were trying to make him look old. Seems pretty obvious to me.

WOW! What a collection you have!!!
I especially like the pictures where you posed the two together, looking like they are mates.

Love Red Lobster! That's so sweet . . . you took Chris on a date.

Thanks. Just four dinos, but I'm hoping to get more.
I like those too. Made my favorite one into an icon here. T-rexes are love. :D

Yeah, he usually buys dinner but this time I wanted to. Playing with my dinos made me hungry for fish.

Oh these are nice. I have the papo allosaurus myself, he sits by my worktable to keep me company.

Thanks. I just ordered that allosaurus because it's awesome and has been discontinued. Looking forward to getting him.
