They're asking for it
I filed a report with the Better Business Bureau yesterday against Pet Flytrap. They said they contacted them. Ha, good luck on them getting an answer. They said Pet Flytrap has 30 days to respond. And then what? What if they don't? This jerk is good at hiding. My next plan is to file a report with paypal and get my money back. At this point I don't want the plants anymore even though I said I did on BBB. I'm sick of waiting. My main complaint was the bad customer service/communication (or lack there of) and then the state of the plants. I want my money back and it's $39 that could be better spent elsewhere. I just don't know how long I should wait before I contact Paypal in case BBB can do something other than give them another bad review to the F rating they already have. That's rather pointless. Ideas?

On a good note, I made some progress on the work fight drawing. I'll try to work on it some more today. I don't know if I can finish the inking but it would be nice to try. I really need to finish this pic or I'll be three drawings behind my schedule. I really need to catch up.

EDIT: Well interesting that he finally wrote back. Looks like BBB scared him some. Guess what? More excuses. Here's his email.

Good morning Des, and thank you for your inquiry!

We are a family owned and operated business, and we are going through some very tough family issues right now, which is affecting our usual shipping and customer service regimen a bit. I hope you can sympathize and agree, though, that family needs to come first. J

We are also experiencing heavier than normal order volume right now, so we are running a bit behind our usual shipping schedule, However, rest assured that you will receive a shipping confirmation e-mail from orders@petflytrap.com when your orders ships, as well as an additional e-mail directly from USPS.com with the tracking number for your order.

Thank you once again for your business, and your patience and understanding as well. Good growing!

Regards,
Mike Howlett

I do not sympathize at all. There's no excuse for running a business poorly. My response.

Yes family comes first but you always have some big problem or disaster going on when it comes to my orders. I do not want to hear excuses. If you are having problems simply put a notice and close the website if you can not meet demands or respond to emails. Reopen when the crisis is solved. Responsible companies do that often.

I am not pleased with the service or quality of plants I have received while doing business with you in the past year. Since you have not yet sent these plants I request a complete refund for $38.64. I do not wish to have them anymore or to wait.

I'm going to be a hard on him. I've put up with his junk too much. Last time it was because of earthquakes. It's always some huge crisis and I didn't buy it last time either. Refund requested. Either he does it now or I go to paypal Monday night. And no I really don't want the plants. I know he'll send me the sickest ones to spike me and then there's no returns. I will not allow him to screw me over. If he can get this right I'm done with him, but I'll still leave a review on Dave's garden.

I'd go ahead and try to get money back if I were you, especially if I had better ways to spend it. See if you can spread word around that Pet Flytrap sucks, and get people to go somewhere else for their carnivorous plants.

Speaking of plants, I had a gourd sprout yesterday. Since it rained all night last night I need to check and see if there are more this morning.

Yeah, I think I'll wait until monday before I contact Paypal because everything's closed on the weekends. I will definitely put the word out to warn people. I'll wait a few months so he doesn't put two and two together then leave a long review on Dave's Garden. I'll make a public post here with links to forums where others have been complaining as well. People need to be warned about this place. Better yet, they shouldn't be in business. I wish they'd sell the store to someone that actually cares about the customers and the plants. I want to start my own business which is part of the reason I'm collecting plants and trying propigate them myself. I'd run a tight ship.

Awesome congrats! I'll still send you some if any come up. I even found a way to open the seeds and plant just the embryos. I used to do that with sunflowers and it would work. I wonder if it would work with gourds. If so I'll do that from now one since it takes so long to sprout some. I planted some once and forgot about them and gave up. The sprouted the next year. Too long to wait.

Made an Edit to the main post. More excuses and nothing resolved.

I appreciate that you're sounding the alarm about this business. I've only bought online from a of couple nurseries which I've visited before in person, but I expect to start buying more online in the future, and knowing bad apples like this one are out there is frustrating! I can only imagine how you feel.

I was curious to see what kind of complaints they had with the BBB, so I checked out their profile. I'm curious as to what constitutes a "good faith effort to resolve the complaint"? And in my book it's pretty bad to not even respond to two complaints against your business.

I also feel like somewhere along the line I read that a business has to delivery goods within 30 days? I could be way off base with that, but there must be some rules somewhere about delivery. Just can't find where at the moment.

I posted this just as you posted an edit. Going back up to read through it. :)

Yeah, I saw those two unresolved reviews with no responses. Here's a link to the Dave's Garden I keep mentioning.

I find it interesting that two retracted their comments from negative to positive and makes me think he threatened them to change them. That photo of the flytrap justynsmommy posted is terrible. She doesn't know what healthy flytraps should look like. Those are dark green which means they weren't getting enough light. If she puts them in the sun (where they belong) they will likely die. I wouldn't be surprised if that plant is dead now. Terrible service and quality for her. The other negatives he came in and attempted to defend himself. Pathetic.

More bad reviews

And lastly I love how many bad threads he has started on this forum.

If you want to order carnivorous plants I'll be happy to point you in the right direction to some good online stores. Just let me know what you're interested in. For nepenthes I recommend Par O Bek. For general stuff though he doesn't have much inventory I'd go with California Carnivores. I have been pleased with my orders from them.

EDIT: Oh and if you want to read when the trouble started for me last year here's this fun post I made.

I finally got those plants in two months later. Luckily they were healthy. My other order was not and I lost them all. So I want my money back on this one not plants.

Your responce is firm but fair I think.

Yep, I'm not unreasonable. I expect only the best from others.
