Some progress today
It's been almost a week since I got my little N. hamata and it's still alive. I hope I'm doing a good job. It goes into the fridge every night for the drop to 50 degrees. I haven't really seen any signs of growth in a week though. I'm looking at the old pics but don't see much of a change. It is inflating one green pitcher. I'm more anxious about the new growth tip and for some reason want to see that one start to inflate.

I actually got some inking done on the Office Fight drawing. I've inked most of the background and started to ink Owen. I made myself work for one hour today. I'd really like to work on my art one hour a day. No specific set hour so long as it gets done. I had someone ask me what kind of tablet I use today. I was hesitant to answer because I'm still mostly a mouse artist. When I told him the model he goes, "That's what I wanted to hear." As though that's the reason why my art is good. I told him that 90% of my art is done with a mouse still. I'm tempted to mouse draw the next one I start. Just so I can say I have a good tablet but I haven't forgotten my roots. Hehe, we'll see. I do use the tablet for small difficult details like eyes and shading. But that's about it.

I'm laughing because I've been meaning to do this for a while and after talking to people on the plant forum I made a face formy humidifer. I keep saying it looks like Patrick. Well I drew a Patrick face and printed it. Easy. Took no more than 10 mins. Cutting it and gluing it took longer. It's funny. I'll post a pic tomorrow when there's better light.

I got a little yard work doen too. I clean out some of the fallen branches under the gourd arbor. I want to convert that into a lowland nepenthes greenhouse. An open air greenhouse with screen on the sides and the top covered with white plastic. If only that darn palm tree weren't in the way. I need to have Chris take the dead branches off of it for me before I do anything. And I have to sift the sand on the ground. I'd like to get pavers in there.

Having a good tablet is nice, but it's hardly what makes or breaks an artist. Someone talented can do well with whatever medium they're working in. All a good tablet will do is make what they do easier, not necessarily better. Or maybe he was thinking that because he has that kind of tablet, his art will be automatically better? Still, it's not a good assumption for him to be making.

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure what he meant as there's not much to go buy but it really sounded like he thinks that my art comes out nice because I use a tablet. :P Most of the stuff I posted on that thread was my older art anyway which was before I got my tablet. I think I've only had it for a year.

EDIT: It's funny but now I just remembered another conversation with someone on DA a while back and he had a similar reaction. I had just gotten the tablet and he swore he could see the "improvement". The reason there was an improvement was because I was using illustrator and it's easier to do all mouse work in illustrator than in photoshop. I'm starting to think that a lot of people do believe that once you have a tablet you magically become better. No no no! I do consider myself mostly a mouse artist, that may change later on. It also makes me think of Dumbo's magic feather. The talent is always there you've just been tricked into believing in a magic feather instead of having confidence in yourself.
