Gaming and a quiz
Not much to report. Just gaming and loving it. I have a quiz I want to share but first I have a question for all of you and I'd like you to respond. I'm very curious about this. I know not all of you game but if you did game:
Do you prefer your game in first person or third person? First person is where you see with your eyes and can only see your hands and the weapons you are holding in them. You never get to see yourself, unless they are creative and put a mirror that works in the environment. Third person you can see your character running around. Extending the question.
Do you dream in first or third person and is it the same or opposite of your preference?
I know not all of you can remember your dreams but the few you've had were you in first or third and apply it to my questions.

I prefer games in third person. I like to see the character running around. I prefer games where I can create my character and customize them and BE them. I hate first person because I dont' want to be looking at hands and pretending I'm a character. That's too much like real life. If I go to the effort to make a character I want to see them. Even if I don't make them and it's a hero the game's story forces you to use I still want to see him and not imagine him. Games that are in first person make me feel like I'm floating and gliding over the landscape. I don't feel like my feet are on the ground and the screen is too big and close up for me to get a view of everything. I feel I can't see and get disoriented and confused in first person. The same holds true for my dreams and luckily I do mostly dream in third person. I'm can usualy see myself and this is likely cause I have a strong self image regardless if I'm myself or another character in the dream.

Here's a neat questionair about LJ.

What is your LiveJournal username? How did you come up with it?

Destroyah_Des. At the time I was still into Godzilla fandom majorly and Destroyah was and still is my favorite monster. I really got into her head and could understand what it's like to be her. I took her name and added it to mine and came up with Destroyah Des.

Have you renamed before? If so, what were your old names? If you haven't renamed, what names would you want to rename to?

I have not renamed but I'm planing on it very soon. I'm not into those fandoms anymore. I would like to change it to Thagirion because my love for him as my own creation is eternal. Money's the only reason I haven't done it yet.

How much does your userinfo say about you?

More than most people here on LJ. Filling out my info on all the online places I join is important to me. I want people that find me to know what I'm about and if they just read my info then that's all they really need. It's me in a nutshell literally without opening the shell.

How long have you been on LiveJournal

Proudly since Oct 2004. So currently seven years.

What is the longest amount of time you've gone without posting?

I don't now. A week perhaps when I went out of town on a vacation. I don't like to miss posting if I have something interesting to say and everyday I'm always thinking, "This would be good to put on my journal."

On average, how many entries do you post per day? (Divide how many total entries you have by how many days you've been on LJ.)

I didn't do the math. I just know I try to make one post a day. I don't like making too many because I don't want to flood my friends' list. I like making one big post at the end of the day. If nothing's happened then I don't post just to post. But sometimes things happen when I do have to make more than one post. The most I've done in a day is three. It would be bad if I did more than that. I also hate people that post many times a day. That's what twitter is for and why it sucks and I hate them too. I want writing with substance all at once or none at all be it mine or someone else's.

What are your posts normally about?

My daily life which is actually very interesting. I think any one that stumbled on my journal and took time to read some of the posts would find it very interesting. I write about my birds, my art, my characters, games, metal music and more. I try to include photos or drawings as much as possible to also make it colorful and interesting and hold the reader's attention. But I always do this for myself first and fore most. If someone doesn't like what I say I make no apologies and they can go on their way.

Is your LiveJournal friends only? Why or why not?

Hell no. If it was friends only how could new people find it, read it and like it? Whenever I see journals that say friends only I'll pass them by. If I can't get a gist for what the person is like by their last few entries there's no point. Again most people don't bother to fill out their bios, and those that do aren't very good anyway. Most of the time looking at their interests tells me loads more about who they are than if they bothered to write anything at all. Provided they even filled interests out. I always look at the interests first. No I'm a public journal with very few private posts.

Does your LiveJournal have an actual title or are you merely USER @ LiveJournal?

Of course it does. Again, I take time to fill that out to make my journal interesting and easily found. My journal's title is
Experiences of a Budgie Lover
Though I've been thinking of changing it. I don't know what to tough. When I started I thought I would mostly be talking about budgies as I'm very budgie obsessed and I am a budgie lover. But I really don't talke about them much which surprised me. But if you look at the tags page they are ranking very high in the topics most talked about. I don't know what title would cover me since I'm into so many neat things.

How long do you see yourself staying on LiveJournal?

As long as it lasts. I'm a very loyal person once I find something I like. I've always promoted them and encouraged others to join. It's been disapointing that in the last two years since the Rusky take ove quality has dropped but there is no other place out there that's better. They'd have to do something really heinous for me to turn on them. I even have a permanent account.

How many people are on your friendslist, not counting private journals, media journals, etc?

Not very many and I add and ditch people based on thier level of participation. People that I add I expect to follow my rules and one of the major ones is active commenting. Even if we have lots in common if you don't participate I'll eventually remove you. Getting ready to do a friend's pruning here in a few days actually. Those of you that are active I appreciate you very much. You know who you are.

Why do you choose to add a person to your friendslist?

Simple, beause of similar interests and because they're interested in what I talk about. I'm very selective and don't just add anyone.

Is your friendslist an actual list of people you consider friends, or more of a reading list?

If you're on my friends list you're probably a good friend of mine. More on the exceptions in the next few questions.

How often do you read your friendslist?

Everyday. I keep up with it as much as I expect them to keep up with me.

Do you use filters when viewing your friendslist?

Yes. Here are the exceptions I mentioned. The ones on the filter are my real friends that I care about reading their lives. I've made the filter because one of the terrible things LJ did was allow open source comments and facebook people to be able to respond. Despite having the journal set to "members only" these non-members were still able to post. I put a stop to that right away. Sucks for the real members I will not have it any other way. If I allow someone on my friends list they don't go on the filter until they prove themselves trustworthy or worth my time. In fact the title of my friends page is "Those worthy of his attention." Meaning Thagirion or me. I add people because this allows them to comment and I want to hear what they think of my stuff. I'm not one of those that you have to have permission to add me. No, please do add. That's why I'm public. But the whole public doesn't get the privilede to respond to me. Most people I add I end up flaming with eventually because they didn't follow the rules and they're gone as quickly as they came and nothing was lost for me.

How much do you talk to people on your friendslist off of LiveJournal?

A lot for an introvert. Some of them I know and real life and get together with once in a while.

Do you do friends cuts? Why or why not?

Of course I do. I'm considerate of my friend's pages and I expect the same in return. As an INTJ I hold everyone to very high standards and myself to even higher standards. In fact this is getting long I may have to put it behind a cut. I don't want to see a page a mile long that I have to scroll through to read my next friend's post. Also if there are huge images that streach out the table put it behind a cut and don't screw up my layout. Hehe, I have dropped people over this.

Do you regularly participate in friending memes? If not, how do you normally find people to friend?

WTF is that? I'm not desperate for friends. Again standard of excellence I'd rather have very few that are excellent than a bunch that are crappy. Actually I don't go out seeking friends. Either they come to me or I stumble across them in some way or another but I can't remember intentionally looking for friends.

How often do you add new friends to your friendslist?

Do your friends have to have things in common with you?

These questions are geting stupid. Read above. I only associate with people that have common ground with me.

How many userpics do you get maximum? How many of those slots do you actually use?

I'm using 185 out of 210. My amount grows every year because I'm a permanent account. Paid accounts that keep up their membership also have their limit grow each year. I like leaving slots open. I wouldn't want to fill my quota.

Do you mostly use icons made by yourself or by others?

Most of the icons I've made and they are noted as such. I'm obsessed with my own characters so you'll see them a lot in my icons.

Do you have your own icon community? How often do you post in it?

Yes, after archiving everything and beating the former owner in a debate I now own toocuteicons. I don't post as much there as I should. After months of not doing anything have started posting again just a few days ago and this time will try to keep up. Her closing it was a dumb move with a dumber excuse. Lots of F types were sad over it and I brought it back and made them happy, despite that I don't care for most of the icons myself. All the left leaning ones anyway. But I said I would restore the archive and that's what I'm doing regardless of feelings and it like my journal is public as those should be free for anyone to use. With 300+ members and growing it shows how much this place needed to stay. I'm trying to post by month so I can be done in a year.

What fandoms are most frequently seen in your userpics?

My own. That would be Thagirion Realm.

How do you find icons to use?

I mostly make my own. I'm so thankful I can draw.

How often do you upload new icons to use in your userpics?

Not often. I'm pretty satisfied with what I have right now. Although there are a few emotions missing I need to make or find icons for. I'm a professional procrastinator. I love having space to have an emotion to go with almost every response I make. I try to use appropriate icons for what I'm discussing with my friends.

Which of your userpics do you use the most?

My defaults of course. Currently it's Owen with a cocky smil.

But my other faves are:

Which of your userpics do you like the most?

Woops see above. I got head of myself. My faves are my most used.

The old minimum number of userpics was three. Could you see yourself "surviving" on three userpics now?

That was before I joined. When I joined the minimum for a free account was six. No I can't do three. The minimum now is 15. I think it should be at least 25.

What do your userpics say about you?

Loads. Basically everything in my interests in on my user pics. Check them out. You can tell what I'm obsessing over too by my icons.

I now tag Suzi, Silvolf, Kabuldur and Earthmother. Don't feel obligated to answer these questions. I just think it would be neat to see your answers if you have time.

I prefer third-person gaming, though in my case it's mostly just because I tend to get motion sickness from first-person games more easily for some reason.

As for dreaming, I don't think I've ever dreamed in third-person, at least not in the sense of actually seeing myself from the outside. There have been dreams where I wasn't really an active participant--that is to say, there have been dreams that have only really been about other people and I wasn't actually interacting with them directly. But as far as I'm aware, I've never felt like I actually was one of those other people or characters that I could see from a third-person perspective.

On that note, I don't think I've ever dreamed about being someone else while in first-person, either. But then again, I only remember a small percentage of my dreams, so maybe I actually have dreamed about that and had third-person dreams and all that. I don't know for certain.

That's simlar to me feeling like the camera's too close in first person.

Yes, I've had those dreams were it was like watching a movie but wasn't involved. If you'd be interested in my dreams let me know and I'll add you to my dream journal. I think I do things most people don't and I have some pretty zany ones. I only post my best ones so I don't post that often.
sike_saner on November 19th, 2011 02:27 am (UTC)
Hm, sounds neat. Yes on the add, then.
Desthagirion on November 19th, 2011 01:15 pm (UTC)
Ok I added you.
sike_saner on November 19th, 2011 08:01 pm (UTC)
Cool, thanks.

I play action puzzles (Tetris, Bejeweled, etc.) when I do game, and when I did play video games as a kid, they were mostly platformers which are always third person. I want to see the character. My dreams are always first person in the rare instances that I remember them. My senses still mostly work (except for smell and taste) in dreamland like they do in the real world. I can't go outside my body even in dreams, and I'm never someone else in my dreams either. I wouldn't want to do either of those things.
Des: Anomalocaristhagirion on November 18th, 2011 01:45 pm (UTC)
I like seeing my character too. I started with platformers or as I call them Side Scrollers too like Mario. Perhaps that's where I got used to it. Being someone or something else is a wonderful experience. If you ever get a chance in your dreams do so. Or even just pretend and imagine in the waking world. Since I was a kid my strongest desire was to fly and the best way to fly was to be a bird. I spent tons of time day dreaming and real dreaming about what it's like to be a bird. Since I'll never be able to do that one reason I go into birds was to fly through them while I watch them. I get a strong sense of what they're feeling and seeing and because of that am very good at reading them and other animals. Would you like to be added to my dream journal? I don't know if I added your or not. I do all sorts of neat stuff but don't post often since I only write down the good ones. I have lots of dreams every night but most are mundane. Like last night I dreamt about walking through a city. That's boring.

Oh on the note of senses in dreams. I have all of mine and some things feel very real. I can feel things through touch, feel hot or cold, smell stuff that's gross, hear things and more. And in third person it's like watching a movie but feeling the experiences the character or I am feeling. I love all the sensations, emotions, thoughts while seeing myself provided it isn't one of those observe only dreams.

I prefer gaming in third person because yeah, I love seeing my character.
I dream in first person mostly but I always know what I am in a dream and sometimes I think I dream in third person. My dreams are always weird lol!

That's a neat LJ quiz, I might do that tonight if I remember lol! I joined in 2003 I think because I wanted to post on a community here. Posting in my own journal was something I never really did but now I do.
Des: Quetzalthagirion on November 18th, 2011 01:50 pm (UTC)
I'm glad you agree. Yeah those dreams I've had in first person are interesting in that I kind of just know what I am too. I think everyone has weird dreams.

Cool you've been on a year longer than I have. I wish I had joined sooner.
everoswentyne19 on November 18th, 2011 01:46 pm (UTC)
I play games in 3rd person, FPS give headaches because I suffer from motion sickness. I mostly dream in first person but once in a while I have 3rd person dreams. My 3rd person dreams were more frequent when my grandmother was alive. I like to think that was our special way to communicate since sometimes we had the same dreams on the same night.
Des: Hyacinthsthagirion on November 18th, 2011 01:51 pm (UTC)
The only first person shooter I've played was Civil War. It took some getting used to but I was interested in the time period. I didn't finish it but then I rarely finish most big games I start.
kabuldurkabuldur on November 19th, 2011 10:20 am (UTC)
I'm not a gamer, but I would definitely like to play in first person. I would never think of doing otherwise, although now you've explained it, I can see it would be advantageous to do it in third person. But it would just not feel natural to me.

I have always dreamed in first person. Very occasionally I might dream of being someone else. When I wake up, I ask myself what aspect of myself that person might represent.

And aww...I have been tagged. How about that!
Desthagirion on November 19th, 2011 01:16 pm (UTC)
I'll post some screen caps sometime so you can see the difference.

Yep, sometimes I tag my friends.

BTW, has your card arrived yet?
kabuldurkabuldur on November 20th, 2011 09:51 am (UTC)
My card??? You posted a card??? No, but the postal system is slow here, so don't give up hope! I hope I get your's to you before Christmas! (Especially as you're going away).
Des: Halloween Pumpkinthagirion on November 20th, 2011 12:33 pm (UTC)
Yes it's a Halloween card. I actually sent it out early, but I knew it wouldn't make it there by the 31st. Now I'm worried.
earthmother45earthmother45 on November 19th, 2011 01:43 pm (UTC)
That's a very interestng question about the first and third person. I'd never thought about it before actually, but now am recalling some of my dreams and I'd say I dream in both first and third person, but seem to favor the first person. I think I prefer to dream in third person, because when I was viewing that video preview of your game it was very annoying to see only my hands and weapons waving around in front of me, not knowing what the rest of me looked like. My dreams sometimes get frustrating and I wonder if that is because I was dreaming in first person.

That is an interesting quiz and one I will get back to. And when I do, I'll share the results with you. p.s. I'm honored to be on your tag list.
Desthagirion on November 19th, 2011 07:37 pm (UTC)
That's neat. I used to dream mostly in third. But lately I've started in first and some of my dreams I switch between views like camera angles for better views. I don't like that but it does help sometimes. My brain is a movie director even in my sleep. Yeah, just seeing the hand and the weapons is weird. Like I told Kabuldur I'll post some screen caps so you can see the difference.

I chose most of my best friends from here for the quiz.
