Still busy
I just realized I need to change my banner to the Fall one with Thanatos. I'll get to that eventually. I put up more window clings and cut outs today. I've learned something about taping cutouts I didn't know. You have to wash the wall first. Even with good tape they'll fall off because they'll be clinging to dust and not the wall itself. Some walls were so bad I had to whipe them twice with a sponge. I added some nice ones to the computer room and game room. I'll take pics once everything's more presentable. It's getting there. My goal is to have the house be presentable for Halloween so by October I want all unboxing and relocating in the garage to be done along with the Fall decorating.

I keep forgetting to mention this for my chicken friends here. I found a way to get rid of broodiness. You take the hen that's being bad and not sharing the nest and lock her somewhere for at least two days. Right now I've got Zucca in the pigeon loft with the pigeons. After a few days you let them out and they think the eggs got cold and died. It's bad enough they don't make eggs, but when they don't let the other hens lay then it's not acceptable. The pumpkin patch is starting to become beautiful finally. I'll take pics. I wish I had taken progress pics from the start. I only took videos and would have to take stills of the videos to get the beginning stages.

Chris is doing great with learning the Pro Tools. He showed me the basics. I'm both looking forward and a bit nervous about doing my part. I screw up as much in music as I do in art. I know the point of recording is to do it over and over until you get the perfect take. But I still want it right the first time with as few takes as possible.

Speaking of takes. I really want to get my new video camera. Saving up hasn't been easy. I'm still open for commissions. The info is in a previous post not to long ago here. I've you've wanted some custom art done by me, please now would be the time I could use it.

Since I didn't get too many sphinx moths this year and I only had Carolina Sphinx to raise (if you don't get anything you'll always get those) I decided to go ahead and grab the Polydamas Swallowtails Battus polydamas that are on my Dutchman's Pipevine. The buttefly is rather ugly. Mostly black with only a line of yellow on the trailing edges. Also it's the only Swallowtail in North America with no tails. A swallowTAIL with no tail? Something wrong with that. But I just miss rasing bugs so I might be able to grow these at the end of the season. But with my luck I'll be stuck with them over wintering in their chrysallis. I had that happen with an Easter Black Swallowtail one year. All the rest emerged except one that I was stuck with for months. Everything about dealing with them is new for me so that's exciting. Here's a video about it.

Notice the cute intro Chris made for me. I wanted something that sounded like butterflies or fish, and this turned out great.

It rained this morning and most of the day, so I wasn't able to work on the chicken coop. So stuff besides chickens is still getting on our patio. Remember the time that the wren got in and destroyed everything? Hehe, well this time a young Mouring Dove got in and helped himself to the chicken food. The chickens did make a mess of their bowl and their food is actually a pigeon mix. So doves would like it too. Check out this cute guy.

He just jumped in the bowl and helped himself. Three more behind the cut.

You can see the cockatiel cage behind him. Also my fall window clings on the bedroom door. Omega the chicken walked in and the poor dove got scared and crashed into the glass sliding doors. But then he flew out the door and landed on the fence. I hadn't noticed an adult dove was watching the whole time. I wonder if it was the parent?

That's the one that was in the bowl on the fence.

I recognize him because he was scruffy and missing a lot of feathers.

We've gotten really far in weeding the hummingbird garden. I'll be glad once that's all done and mulched. I need to plant the watermelons in there.
Oh and Chris got his passport today. I'm so glad. Now he can travel with me. His seemed like it took a lot faster than mine. They still haven't returned his birth certificate though. I blame it on the mail man who probably didn't deliver all the mail. He's done it several times when I've had tracking numbers. I like pissing him off by calling the PO, giving my tracking number, and they make him drive back out. Hehe. But we didn't have tracking on this unfortuantely.

YES!! The tag drop down is back!

Oh going back to the decorating thing. I picked up a set of cut outs for Halloween that's supposed to be scary, but once I got them out I didn't find them scary at all. In fact it could be a pet series. Well normal people might think it's scary. Anyway what was in this set was a jack-o-lantern with a brown rat, a crow in a cute pose, an adorable ball python, a tarantula (my friend Julian had one as a pet when we were kids. We used to play with it.)Flying Fox bats agains the moon, and a black cat next to a real skull with books. These are all real photos and all of these animals are pets. So I don't find it scary at all.

Shoot I know there's one more thing I wanted to talk about but I forgot it.

Those are some of the ugliest caterpillars I've ever seen.
You did a really nice job framing the dove with those crepe myrtle flowers. I really like the look of them.
:)

Thanks, but really I wasn't setting up any framing or anything. I just aimed at the dove point and shoot.

I never used to see doves like that when I was a kid. Then, around age 19, I started to see a few. These days you see them everywhere. I guess they are another of those birds that made a successful comeback after they stopped using DDT here in the US.
:)

Those are really pretty and cute caterpillars! They match the flowers, and that could be a camouflage mechanism for them, I suppose. It's a pity the butterfly is not so pretty. Awesome vine and flowers, btw. I was going to ask what the red flowered bush was, but Rhodie_lady has answered that for me. I disagree with her about the caterpillars, though. No disrespect to Rhodie_lady. I was just taken with them from the start. Maybe the Dutchman's Pipe vine is poisonous to many insects?

That's a very cute Mourning Dove. I hope s/he didn't hurt her/himself too badly on the glass sliding doors. Maybe it'll be back! That's interesting that maybe a parent was on the fence watching.

Good on Chris for learning the software, and teaching you. That butterfly music he made up is really pretty. What a creative guy he is. I'm glad his passport arrived, too.You two are going to have such a wonderful trip!

I think that's a really good idea to set yourself a goal with the house tidying up. And the clings like a super clean house! I'm spring cleaning here whether I like it or not, too. I don't think I'd find those clings scary. But it's up to your taste what you have in your house!

Thanks. They're very soft actually and fun to touch. I don't know if pipe vine is poisonous. It could be, but it has a very nice scent.

I was worried about the dove too but luckily he seemed fine afterwards. Yeah you see the other bird in some of the pictures.

Yeah, I like the new intro butterfly music a lot too. I can imagine flitty butterflies and moths darting about. I'm very excited about the trip.

Yeah, I hope I can meet that goal. I'd like to have Trick or Treaters come to the house for the first time. I've never done that. Yeah, well I just know these animals scientifically and know they aren't the scary things more uneducated people make them out to be. I see them as animals not as omens or spirits or anything silly like that.

I already commented on the butterfly video.

I like your dove. That picture of him sitting in the feed bowl is really cute. I also like those red crepe myrtles. All we have are pink ones, and some neighbors have white ones. I've never seen a red one, even though crepe myrtles are all over the place here.

I'd like to see pictures of those cut outs. My brother had a pet rat as a kid. She was one of the best pets ever, but rats don't live very long.

I know.

Yeah he fit right in that big bowl. I was so happy that was a red one because I'd never seen one and I think they are kind of rare.

I'll take pics of them soon. I had a rat once too that was nice.

I found some red crepe myrtles. There are a whole bunch of them in front of a neighborhood up the street. I had never noticed they were red until I decided to walk up to the bank and grocery instead of taking the bus.

Our rat knew her name, came when called, liked riding in the car, ate the dogs' food, and was an escape artist. She also freaked me out once by licking my feet. I thought it was one of the dogs at first.

The intro music for that video was pleasant; he did a good job on it.

And the caterpillars and dove are pretty cute. I like the dark spots on the dove's wings.
Desthagirion on September 7th, 2011 11:54 pm (UTC)
Yeah I wanted something that kind of sounded like flitty moths and butterflies.

Yeah they're both cute. Yeah the dots make them more interesting instead of being just brown.

I'm glad you found a good way to deal with broody hens!
The Mourning Dove is cool, we have similar doves here.
I like that Chris is doing your music, it makes the videos more personal and special!
You're right, those aren't scary cut outs lol!
Desthagirion on September 7th, 2011 11:55 pm (UTC)
I think I have. I let her out and she still went in the nest. ARG. Perhaps I should have left her for a week. It worked the first time and it worked on Omega but this time she didn't fall for it a second time.
Mourning doves are cute and they have a cute song too. Their crops inflate when they sing.
Yeah, also what's nice is no worrying about getting in trouble with youtube because we own the music.
Yeah they were very pretty cut outs. I'll post pics of them soon.
