Been a good day
Every year I know that there are certain days in August when it's the best time to watch for meteor showers. Well this year I remembered. It is Aug 12-13 or the Perseids meteor shower. Well I finally remmeber and wasn't able to see any because of lots of annoying things. For one the moon was full and blocking out all the stars. I'm still technically in the suburbs so there were some lights and the neighbors were having some kind of emergency so there were fire trucks blinking and shining everything up on the 13th. It just sucked. Everything was too bright. Even if I'd been in the country the full moon would have still screwed up viewing. Oh oh and not just that, it was cloudy. The 12 there was a huge storm. The 13 it was light rain and hazy cloudy skies. So no meteor watching. But I found out the dates when the next one is. I didn't know there was more than one. I'd only heard about them being in August. Here's a list.

January 3-4 Quadrantids
April 21-22 pril Lyrids
May 4-5 Eta Aquarids
July 28-29 Delta Aquarids
August 12-13 Perseids
October 21-22 Orionids
November 3-13 Taurids
November 16-17 Leonids
Dec 13-14 Geminids
Dec 21-22 Ursids

November seems to be the best month for most times to catch them. That's impressive. But Dec 13-14 is supposed to be the most spectacular with the most meteors falling. I hope I can remember that. I have no idea why some of these names are so weird though.

I finished X-men Evolution today. I loved it! Very good writing. Much better than the 90's show. Unfortunately I can't really talk about it...yet. The reason is I finally convinced Chris to watch it with me. Took some coaxing but now he's really enjoying it too. We were both disapointed with the 90's show and this was a nice thing to save us from that. So I've started it over and just finished season 1 with him tonight. I need to remember not let stuff accidentally slip here. We both hate spoilers. Well a character that I don't care much for. Avalanche. Even his name is stupid. He has powers to move the earth and shake stuff up. He should have been called Earthquake because how often will he be using snow on a cliff to bury people? It's mostly earth powers like Quami had on Captain Planet. He's bascially just angry dumb muscle too. The other bad guys just follow him because he's "scary". The one cool thing about him is when he uses his powers his sound effect is an electric guitar. But that's all really. Now that I think about it I don't really feel strongly for anyone on X-men. I like several characters but none that I'm like, "OH THEY'RE COOL!" You know I really like someone when I start to draw them and I don't see that happening. Haha, especially not in that partial anime style.

I released two moths today. I have one cocoon left. I got some nice pics of moths flying around tonight too. I got to see acute one feeding on gourd flowers but wasn't able to get a pic of them on gourd flowers. I'd love to have a picture of that.
I planted more pumpkin seeds and the tilling has gone quite well. I also planted some watermelon seeds under the loquat tree. I'm very excited and hope the pumpkins will start to sprout. I also opened up the One Too Many pumpkin that I had from last year. I'm drying the seeds out. Since it's a new variety I don't know if the seeds will breed pure and I'll get more One Too Many's or just get some hybrid.

I haven't drawn, writen or played anything. Looks like all my creative talent is being stucked into my plants. I miss making art and playing my guitar. I hope I can get into that again soon. Oh, I better update my dream journal now.

Oh, one of my other friends told me about the meteor showers! He said they were cool.
I don't like Avalanche much either. In fact the fan character I made for the show doesn't get on with him. He's a bit of a jerk really. I won't reveal anything in case Chris reads but Shadowcat needs better taste. I'm glad you're enjoying the show! I'll be watching all my DVDs, one at a time once I'm finished with Doctor Who.

Good luck with the pumpkin seeds!

Oh, I wish I could have seen it. I always forget. But now I know there are several so I just need to remember the next one for October.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to chatting with you about these. I like Shadowcat. She's cute. For a girly girl she doesn't bother me.

Thanks. I hope they start to sprout soon.

I agree! I'd like to have a chat about the series sometime, I'm really glad you've enjoyed it and it would be nice to talk about it. None of my other friends are into it. We should meet up on AIM soon!

I remember when you first mentioned this show that no one really watched it. I used to like the original one and thought I'd check it out. I'm so glad it was very good. Yeah, I'll let you know when would be a good time. I'm a bit busy this week but once I figure out what's going on I'll let you know.

That's cool that you remembered when to watch the Perseids shower. It's a shame it got mucked up by the full moon and the neighbours, but hopefully you will remember the upcoming dates. It's going to be cold then, though! I have no idea why they are named like that, but perhaps it looks like they pass through the various constellations, and that's the reason for the names?

That's cool that a moth fed off the gourd flowers. It would certainly make a good photo!

Yeah, when I'm in garden mode it's hard to be in creative mode because of all my sore and stiff muscles. Maybe that happens to you, too?

Yeah I finally remembered. Probably the worst was the storm and the full moon blocking everything out. Oh I bet you're right about them being named after constilations. I hadn't even noticed that.

It looked so pretty. I mostly get pics of them on the Four O'clocks.

Yeah I am a bit tired because of all the hand tilling I've been doing.

I've seen a few meteor showers since we've lived down here. I am fascinated by anything to do with the universe. I've never had a list of the names and dates so I'll make note for future reference.

Only one cocoon left to go . . . are these all still the ones from the tomato plants?

One Too Many! Your pumpkins have the most interesting names!
Desthagirion on August 16th, 2011 09:12 pm (UTC)
Yeah I was happy to find out about this. I only knew about August.

Yes they were all from my tomato plants. I'll make an update soon.

I didn't name them. It's the actual name of the type of pumpkin. Here's a place that has the seeds.

earthmother45earthmother45 on August 16th, 2011 09:36 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I knew you didn't name them yourself. But I remember last year all the different ones you had and they all had such cute and interesting names.

I love your videos so much. I can tell you put a lot of thought and effort into them and they have a professional quality about them. I'll look forward to the next one.

Yeah I love the names of the different types. I can't wait to get my Batwing pumpkin seeds.

Thanks. I do my best and always try to make them something like the documentaries I grew up watching. Did you see my last one I posted? I have a huge Zucca growing.

That's cool about the meteor showers. I never knew that. Also, got my fingers crossed for your pumpkins!
Desthagirion on August 16th, 2011 09:13 pm (UTC)
Yeah I didn't either. It was a nice find. Thanks. I got a good feeling this time.

the k-cygnids are supposed to peak tonight, and thankfully cygnus is in the same sector of the sky as Perseus, so you dont have to look too far from it, also the moon will probably still be a bit of an issue, since it's still far from even being even a half moon.
the k-cygnids arent nearly as frequent as the perseids, but they're still a medium rate meteor shower, so im gonna keep my eyes up tonight. hopefully you'll be able to see a few as well, i live in the suburbs as well and i dont have to go very far from town to see the stars nice and bright, wish the moon would screw off tho lol
Desthagirion on August 16th, 2011 09:16 pm (UTC)
Oh thanks for letting me know. I'll go out and check again tonight. Yeah there should be no moon during meteor showers hehe. It needs to go away.
actipton80actipton80 on August 16th, 2011 09:16 pm (UTC)
I've had such bad luck trying to view meteor showers that I don't look for them any more. The one time I stayed up really late for one, I saw no meteors, and it was supposed to be a big one. I couldn't see them here anyway between the trees and the streetlight at the end of our driveway. I can barely see any stars even on a clear night.

I did like Evolution better than the 90's show even though I don't think I've seen as many eps of it.
Desthagirion on August 16th, 2011 09:22 pm (UTC)
If you can ever get out into the country it really is the best thing. Even for just regular star watching. But like Longbow said, the moon is still going to make a mess of things even in the country.

I was very impressed with it. It's a good show.
