Seed culture done
Want to welcome swifticus to my journal. I hope you'll enjoy it here.
I finished the last of the tissue culture today. I used up all the jars that had media in them and ended up with a total of 24 jars. I got all the speices in too. So here they are.

I love how this looks. I need more jars. I also need to get a pressure cooker. But I guess it's fine to take a break since it can take up to 3 months for the seeds to sprout provided I don't have any contamination and they're all good. I've got several more seeds coming my way. One is N. tentaculata. I'm excited about that because from the pic I saw it looks to be related to N. hamata which is the toothy nepenthes everyone loses their lunch over and pays insane amounts of money for. I'm thinking of placing an ad in the local Flyer asking for people to just drop off empty jars. I may end up with more than I can manage. But that would be good.

My rack looks so cool! It's starting to look like a professional grow lab! I hope everything will sprout and thrive.
EDIT: One thing I've learned. Seeds of N. bicalcarata and N. ampullaria are very sensitive to bleach and will turn completely white. I redid some bicals because of this and put them in the bleach less time. They turned out better. But since it was my first time with ampullaria they are even more sensitive and most became totally white. Hope I get something out of the two types I had. But they're actually a low priorty plant. The bicals I would like to have many of.

Ok quick (hopefully) rant about nepenthes dealers. Most of them have lousy communication. I've been happy with the plants and speed of shipping from CP Jungle, but I'm not happy with his communication. Granted he mentioned on his website he's got family things going on right now. But if you're going to run a business with customers you have to take time to respond to their questions. Don't give a deadline if you're not going to keep it. He said he'd be caught up by the weekend. Then he said in two days. It's been three. That's like five days now and still no response. I even tried using my other email just in case my main one is getting stuff lost. That was this morning. Still nothing. I'm not amused. I hate when you first join how nice they are and act like they'll be so helpful but then they vanish on you. He's still better than the pet flytrap guy since he actually gets the product out on time but they both suck for communication. I also find their little "flamewar" funny but also feel caught in the middle of it. They'll say things like, "Another nursery said they can get something. That's not true." Then the other will write in their updates or info page, "Beware of those nurseries that do this." But it's blatantly obvious they're talking about each other. Drop the facade and just name names already. Gosh I hate that. Do your jobs people and respond to emails. It's obvious I'm not the only ones. Keep this up and I'll make an official review of both of them for search engines to find. So far I've only been pleased with Botanical Wonders. Great communication AND service. It's too bad he mostly deals in hybrids because I'd buy more from him if it weren't for that.

Now that that's settling down for a while I want to concentrate on building my highland nepenthes chamber and work on some art. I'm really thinking about starting to ink the drawing of Thagirion and Sorath sparing. I hope I can actually start on that tomorrow. I feel I'm back on the art kick and I need to take advantage of it. Still need to meet that 12 drawing minimum. I think I have two so far. Not good.

I've been uploading my drawings to Flickr. I might join some of the illustrator groups just to get more coverage there. I don't know. I kind of do and I don't. I don't know why my instinct is resisting a bit but I can always take them down I don't like them somewhere. I'd like to have more people watching me for my drawings. I got some of my old budgie drawings up and I know one person on my watch will enjoy those.

EDIT:EDIT: I was just closing up for the night. Went to check on the pigeons and Chris spotted a corn snake sneaking into the patio under the door that was left cracked open. AAAAAGGG!!! I'm so sick of corn snakes! I'm SO glad he saw it or I might have had more dead budgies in the morning. I caught it and put it in a box. Great now we have to go release this one far away again. It would be amazing if it were the same snake. It was cute though and it was licking me. If they weren't bird eaters I wouldn't mind having them around the yard like the black racers.

The jars are looking good!
I hate when people make out that they're reliable and then turn out to be really unreliable and you don't hear from them and stuff. Its so unprofessional, its a wonder they get any custom at all.
Oh dear, its a good thing you caught the snake. How far can they come back from? They must be good at coming home if there's a possibility it could have come back from where you released it.

Thanks. I hope they don't take three months to sprout.
Yeah, it's really annoying. If you're going to run a business then be responsible with it.
I'd say we drove maybe five miles out. I don't think it's the same one but they all look the same so who knows.

You look like you have a little lab there! I love what Chris said about coming home to find a mad scientist hard at work :) Good luck with them, I hope they sprout.

Yeah, I hear you on the communication. It's a pity the one with good service AND getting things out in a timely manner only has hybrids.

Gah, another corn snake! Did you have to go for a drive before you went to bed? I think it was licking you because it was hungry and 'smelling' you :) I'm glad Chris spotted it and it didn't get any more budgies.

Hehe, yep my own mini lab. I love it. Thanks

Yeah, that's typical that the one that does things well wouldn't have what I'm interested in.

Yeah, I know they use they're tongues to smell. It's so cute.

That's a pretty sweet setup you've got there! I hope they all turn out for you.

It's great that you're getting back into your art again. I need to do that too. I just went to check out your Flickr...stuff's still loading. I guess i haven't gotten to your drawings yet but there are lots of interesting photos on there.

Wow, i'm glad Chris spotted that sneaky snake! I wouldn't mind finding a cool snake like that in my house since i don't have any budgies to worry about though. I did live in a house for a while where i'd occasionally find a garter snake in the kitchen. Yay, free volunteer pets, lol.

Thanks. I'm hoping to make more. This is fun, but tedious work too.

Yeah, hopefully today I can work on some. That's my Flickr profile. There aren't pics on that. You need to click where it says Photostream.

I like snakes. I have a pet python. I just don't like it when they eat my birds.
