Camera Woes
Not much to say except to report some bad news about my camera. It is getting worse. I filmed a video today and uploaded it to youtube. It was fine on the computer but once converted to FLV it dropped frames. My old camera started doing this right before it quit taking decent pictures. So all these symptoms tell me my camera is on its way out. Not happy especially when I'm already in love with my camera. I like everything about it.

So I went on Canon's website and looked up what they could do for repair. They said they'd fix it for free since it's still under waranty as it hasn't been a year yet. I got it on July 4, 2010. But the parts that have me worried are that I no longer have the recipt for it and they want it. I figured after 30 days I was in the clear no more returns so I must have thrown it out. We bought it at Wal-mart so I wonder if they keep records and could just print us a new recipt. I've never heard of that but it would be nice if we were still in the system. We only have the bank statement as proof, but since Chris bought something else it's not just the price of the camera. That's the last thing I can do if we don't find or get a recipt. They said it's not necessary but without it it will delay the process. The other thing that worries me is what if they can't fix it and they have to give me a different camera? Most people would jump for joy at a free upgrade but I don't. I LIKE my camera. I want the same camera because I picked it for certain features like control of shutter speed. So unless that happens and the new camera has all the features I have and/or more then I don't want that. But I have a feeling they don't make PowerShot SX120 IS's anymore. They might not even have any at the factory. It's not just the features. I like the look, feel and shape of this camera. So I'm definitely glad about the free repair but I'm more worried about all this other stuff.

I wonder if using it as a video camera, if not more as a video camera screwed it up? I really want to get a separate video camera just for making youtube videos. I asked a youtube buddy and he recommend three models in order of price. Canon HF S200, Panasonic HDC-TM700, and the Sony HDR-CX550V
Now I know and trust Canon as a good brand. I know sony makes good video cameras too as that was what I used to use when I had film video cameras. Never had a Panasonic. Well the Sony is totally out of my price range. It's more than the laptop I still want. The only feature it has tha the others don't is night vision. I'd love to have that but it's not necessary. So long as the others do good low light and macro that makes me happy. I'm not really into all this super zoom they push now. Since I take videos of bugs and plants I won't really use that. I suck as a bird photographer. So I guess I need to compare and contrast the Canon and the Panasonic. I don't know at the moment. Right now I'm just frustrted.

Oh and one more thing. Once I send off my camera I'll be cameraless for who knows how long. You know that's when all the cool stuff will happen and I'll have no way to document it. I use my camera more than I realize. I'm going to go crazy while it's gone. Not a happy budgie girl right now.

EDIT: Perfect use for my Malcolm icon as I was predicting all this just a few days ago. See this post if you missed my original worry fest.

I hate when things like that happen to something that's important.
I fell over and broke my camera on the only snow day I've ever seen. It was ruined though because my beloved camera was broken. I should get it fixed. The two I've bought since have not been as good.

Yeah I remember that. It sucked. They're never the same. At least we just got back from Wal-mart and got a copy of our recipt.

I had a bad feeling when you mentioned that your beloved camera was playing up. Unfortunately these problems usually don't just go away, worst luck.

I'm glad that they will replace it for you. Oh, I just read below that you were able to get another copy of the receipt. Good!

Aaagh, being cameraless will suck.

Canon is my preferred camera, but I can vouch for Panasonic - very good. Similar to Sony, who are also very good, but unfortunately unaffordable for you at this point in time.

Bah and gah!

Yeah that's true. Yeah, luckily they had us in their records. I'd never heard of them doing that so that's cool.

Yeah I love canons too. But perhaps I'll go with Panasonic as it seems to have more features. I wish I could take them fora test drive to know which I like better.

I'm using a Panasonic and it's all good :)

That is terrible about your being without a camera. I hope it comes back to you real soon all fixed. I might cease to exist without a camera :)

I have always liked Panasonic electronics and have owned many things over the years. One of my cameras is a Panasonic and I love it.

Yeah, it's frustrating not having it around. I hadn't realized I use it so much. I need to write Alex, though he's hard to get a hold of, and perhaps he has an extra one I can borrow until then.

Yeah it's either going to be the canon or the panasonic. I really want a nice HD video camera. I just can't aford one yet.
