Signs of Spring
Oh, I think spring is on the way! I can't wait I'm so excited. I still don't know which is my favorite season. Since I was a kid it's always been Spring and it has my favorite holiday Easter. But in the last few years I've noticed I have a very strong love for Fall (as I'm sure you've noticed). It also has my second favorite holiday Halloween. But as far as the seasons themselves I don't know. Perhaps Spring is no longer alone in the number one spot but now shares it with Fall because I don't think I could pick one over the other. Both make me happy and giddy for different reasons. But there's no doubt Winter's my least favorite season just because of the cold weather.

But I think Spring is really on the way now and I'm seeing the signs. I was going to wait until after Valentine's to start growing seeds indoors but I also take my cues form nature. I've seen lots of purple flowers sprouting and the yellow mustard flowers are out which are very pretty. There are propeller seeds on so many trees right now they are all red. I don't know what kind of trees they are and never notice them until they get what I and the kids in my 1st grade class used to call propeller seeds. I think they may be a type of Maple but I don't know. The Purple Martins are also back which is wonderful, but the Robins are still down from up north. Good. I LOVE Robins so I hope they stay longer than normal.

Chris didn't get any calls yesterday so it was nice like a two day weekend. We finally got a chance to go back to Home Depot and I used my gift card. I got some bags of mulch and a big bag of soil. But most of it went towards a new light fixture I want to use for growing my seeds indoors. I have an idea for building that grow tray but came across a snag when the lights are four feet long and my shelves are three feet. They do make a four foot shelf but they are very expensive. BUT I might have some extra three foot ones I could double up side by side until I can save up for a proper four foot shelf. Even if I had lots of money I think those shelves are over priced. But they are so useful. They're made of wire and have five shelves to put stuff on. They are nice because they don't take up a lot of room or cause darkness because they are see through. I want to grow these in the garage so today I need to start going through boxes again and clearing stuff out.

We also loaded up the trailer with branches. The yard looks better already but our pile is still huge. This will probably take about four trips. Not only that but I still have tons of plants I need to cut down. I think the best way to get rid of it is to do a mix of hauling and burning.

Oh this question is out of nowhere but do any of you guys remember a nature documentary with two guys that would walk around and identify plants and animals? I used to love watching those in the 80's but can't remember what it was called. The intro music was one of my faves and was by Vivaldi in D major for guitar. I can't look it up because I don't remember the name. I hope someone knows this.

Oh another sign of spring is that we've been seeing aligators popping up in all the ponds. This is great. I love seeing gators especially when they're on the banks sunning themselves. Gators are all over the place in Florida and any body of fresh water is likely to have one even in the city.

Because of Flickr I've been wanting to organize my old film photos. Some are in the development boxes and I'd like to put them in those picture boxes by year and month and scan the best ones. But holy cow I have so many I don't know how or where to start. It's very over whelming and I don't know how to go about organizing it. And once I do I don't know how to go about organizing the ones to scan. I figure I should also go by month and year and perhaps just give them numbers for names like 000.jpg and 001.jpg. I don't know. So much planning to do.

Oh and I'm very happy with the schedule I made for myself. I've decided it's a Monday - Friday schedule. Even though I don't stick to it 100% it's already helped tremendously.

Hehe, this post is filled with small paragraphs. Kinda like the way I think. I'm also very excited because I heard back from the guy doing my video transfers for The Pigeon That Worked A Miracle and Flight of the Snow Geese. They were both successfully transfered. He's working on printing the DVD's and cases and I should soon have them back. This is wonderful! I can't wait! I'll definitely use his service again.

Oh one more thing. I removed the LJ community "Gardening" from my watch list. I'm still a member but I'm tired of seeing the posts especially since there's one stupid girl there that's an environmental alarmist and has an ugly picture of herself. I hate looking at her ugly mug and I no longer have the blocker to block her pic when I had the trial version. I'll only go there if I want to share something or ask a question and just keep an eye on my own thread. Too bad but I'm at the point I know so much I don't need a community or idiots.

There were helicopter seeds all over the neighborhood where I grew up. They are from water maples, which every house in the neighborhood had one except us because dad cut ours down.

We need to replace our bluebird box. Something tore ours up.

That's cool. I need to find out what kind of seeds are in my neighborhood. They are red.
I love bluebirds. Yeah definitely get a new one. What's your favorite season?

We will probably just move the other bluebird house that never got used to the place where this one is. I have trouble deciding between spring and fall. I'll have to think about it some more.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time choosing between them too.

I think my fave season is summer because its warm and I can wear my favourite clothes. I'm not so keen on spring because it brings the seagull mating season and I hate hearing those stupid birds mating everywhere. I do like fall though, it smells nice.

I didn't know you had gators commonely over there, it must be cool to see them in the wild!

Schedules are good, I try and keep one too.

I like summer to despite the intense heat we get. Yeah Fall is nice though it's a bit sad since it's pretty much over for plants and birds. That sense of anticipation of winter looming.

Oh yes. We have more gators than anywhere else in the United States. You should check out the neat pics Earthmother posted on her journal.

The closest encounter I had with a wild gator was bck in the 90's when I was baby sitting some friends. They were older boys I think 12 and 14 and I was in my mid 20's. We'd gone to the local country club and were chasing each other around pretending to be raptors. We'd totally forgotten to check before going near the water and as we ran past the lake we saw motion and heard a huge splash. "AH!" "WHAT WAS THAT?" "A GATOR!" We screamed all at once then busted out laughing. It was only a young 3 footer and he was sunning himself and we scared the crap out of him just as much as he scared us.

Yep, taking a break from mine right now.

She took some cool photos!
Lol I'dve been scared too if I'd seen one that close. Luckily it was a young one.

Yeah she's very good at photography. Yeah that's what we were glad of too.

Your spring is probably on the way, because it is cooling down here, even though we are officially still in summer. That's cool of you and totally expected that you are taking your cues from nature - one can often get a sense of if it is going to be an early season or not. Hauling stuff out of you garden sounds totally like preparing for spring! Glad you have had a good 'weekend' together.

Yeah, we're still officially in Winter too. But ever since I started gardening I've taken my cues from nature by watching if the oaks have new green shoots or when the crocus and other flowers start to pop up. Oddly enough when I lived in the ugly dirty city was when I had the best garden and I really miss a good garden. That was back in 2006. I was successful on some level with all my crops. I was looking at all those old pics and wish it were like that again. Probably because there are fewer bugs in the city.

Perhaps because you have a bigger block, too? It's harder to get a whole block in order.
