INTP Perstonality Type
INTP - Introverted iNtuitive Thinking Percieving
Archtypes: The Thinker, The Architect, The Wizard
Secondary Functions: Ti, Ne, Si, Fe

INTPs are very logical, analytical people who like to think about concepts and ideas, searching for the perfect solution to problems. They are detached, intellectual, and complex, always looking for different challenges. INTPs are very independent, skeptical and often brilliant. They are able to stay calm, even in the most difficult situations. INTPs are intolerant of redundancy and slow people, and are bored by simple issues. They are likely to ignore any rules, people or tasks they consider trivial. One thing they often consider trivial is emotion, their's and other's. Because of this they don't realize that other people need praise and reassurance, and INTPs are usually not good with relationships. They are intensely private, and very hard to get to know. INTPs are highly selective about with whom they will share their ideas, and they won't share their deepest feelings with anyone. They dislike and distrust authority, only respecting knowledge.
INTPs are on a constant search to understand everything, and learn everything they can. They learn anything they decide is worth the effort at an incredible speed, and are able to apply the knowledge to other areas immediately. INTPs have a natural skill for finding flaws in projects and logic, and at finding solutions to the problems. They are good at thinking up ideas, and starting projects, but they often lose interest or ignore the details of it, and it doesn't end as well as they had hoped. INTPs work best alone, and when in groups they seem detached and rarely contribute. They have creative imaginations and see possibilities where others don't. INTPs have a global perspective, and are more interested in theories than their practical applications.
They are not very good at sharing their complex thoughts and ideas, and in conversation they will often pause to think. INTPs are not very appearance-conscious and often look slightly disheveled. They also are not generally well-understood, and feel slightly isolated.

Fictional Examples: Dr. Alan Grant from Jurassic Park, Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons, The Scarecrow from Batman, Voldemort from Harry Potter, Frink from The Simpsons, Milo from Disney's Atlantis, Data from Star Trek TNG, Miles O'Brian from Star Trek TNG and DS9, Goofy from Disney, Patrick from SpongeBob, The Architect from Matrix, Prof. Brainard The Absent Minded Professor, The Professor from Gilligan's Island, Raj from The Big Bang Theory

Hey, I resemble this remark! hehe

It's funny. I like others of my type whether they be real or fictitious, but I just don't always want to be around them.

I like all the examples given. The good and the...dumb. haha.

I did feel isolated growing up but it did not bother me. It allowed me to think . I do have a very small set of close friends and we have been friends for most of my life.

Yeah, I HATE dressing up. Nice looking clothes are so itchy and strangle me. Ties feel like nooses.

Des, you have seen my analytical nature when faced with a new challenge. I sort of become obssessed. (Wolf & Raven) for example.

Hehe, indeed.
That's just an introverted thing. But we always have fun with Alex. And I enjoy Oceania's company on those rare times we get together. Hum, I think getting together with an INTP is very difficult.
I had to put in some stupid INTP's because everyone thinks they are geniuses. Patrick and Goofy are great examples of dumb thinking types. They think but come to the wrong conclusions. Goofy's catch phrase of "Something wrong here." Shows his intuition is fine but his thinking fails him.

I like to dress up on very rare occassions but the outfit has to be comfortable. But day to day I don't bother either.

YES, I love it when you get all obsessive like that. I know you'll figure out that song.

I always liked Data the best of all the nonemotional characters on Star Trek. Although I liked him better in the series than in the movies because he had the emotion chip in the movies, and became annoying because he reminded me of some of the immature autistic guys I've met at conferences and stuff. I liked O'Brien too.

There's even a lot of this profile that fits me even though I'm not an N. Most of the introvert profiles have things that fit me because my only strong letter is I.

I also think my uncle is this, but he's unhealthy.

I forgot to write this, but I especially relate to the not appearance conscious. That is actually one of the things that got me in serious trouble in grad school. I'd go to class and even work at the library looking like I just got out of bed, and they didn't care for that at all.

Skirts suck so I never wear them, hairclips give me a headache, buttons and zippers itch, and the person who invented bras needs to die a slow painful death.

You also like Cope. I think you have a preference for mature INTP's. Hehe. I have no doubt. Figuring out which types you don't like might be a little trickier. But that's cool. I'm glad we agree on this.

Yeah, those of us with strong I's will have a lot in common that way.

Now that's funny and suprised me. Whenever I think of an ISTJ I usually get an image of a clean cut male in business wear. Not necessarily with a coat but long sleeve shirt, tie, pants, shinny shoes and all pressed. For females I just assume they have something similar. So I laughed when you told me that and I have to redo my mental image of you. INTP's are definitely sloppy.

I hate long sleeves too unless they are also wide enough not to be tight, and if ties are anything like turtlenecks, I would probably hate them too. I'd rather be able to breathe and move. I can't buy suits. If I got pants that fit, the jacket would be too small, and if I got a jacket that fit the pants would be too big. If I have to dress up, I usually am mentally counting down to the time I get to go home and change back into t-shirts and sweats. Sometimes I cheat and just put the nice clothes on over the comfy ones so they don't itch. Most of my "nice" clothes are just a step up from T-shirts and sweats anyway. I don't own any suits or dresses.

It reminds me of Mr Spock.
Des: Prof. Cope without glassesthagirion on January 13th, 2011 05:13 pm (UTC)
Spock is ISTJ though. Very different actually. Spock is all about doing things by the book and not straying from the path like all Vulcans. INTP's hate rules and being forced into a certain order. They're spontaneous.
But you know Chris at least...the few times he posts. Cope is this type.

Ah I see! I think I got it wrong because I was in a bit of a hurry when I read this.
Yes I know Chris!

I think you missed the day I posted ISTJ. It's Here if you're curious. It describes Spock and Tuvok very well. I think you've told me you watch Voyager. I dont' remember. That's also Solan btw.

That's more like it! Yes I watched Voyager. My friend was a huge fan of it too. She still likes it.

Yeah, I like Voyager a lot too. I have all the DVDs and will probably watch them again at some point. I'm a Star Trek fan for sure.

Did you write up my biography? Lol. xD

Gosh you know that I love concepts and ideas, whether it be fictional or theories. xD I tend to go crazy with them and wanna know more about them. :P

Yea I often don't realize the emotional needs of others. xD If anything I'm a bit more concerned about myself or rather, other more interesting things. o.o

Yep, I'm very selective with whom I share my thoughts, stories and ideas with. And those I do trust I want to talk to them about it in private away from everyone else. I just don't trust a lot of people I suppose. o.o

Gosh I always hated working in groups. xD

Yep, I suck at explaining things. xD And clothes, I don't really care about looks and stuff like that, ha. xD
Des: Cope Thumbs Upthagirion on August 19th, 2014 12:13 pm (UTC)
Hehe. I love how accurate these are.

And I love exploring these with INTP's and taking them to the next level.

Emotions just get in the way and screw things up.

It's good to be untrusting and on your guard. It has served me well over the years.

So long as it's comfortable that's all that matters about clothes.
gamma_wingsgamma_wings on August 19th, 2014 03:22 pm (UTC)
Me too. :D That's one reason I love this Myers Briggs stuff in the first place. ^^

Yes it's fun to explore them! :)

Haha, agreed. xD

Yes I agree. Better trust no one than trust everyone, which might lead to several secrets and such being scattered everywhere. o.o

I agree! :)
