ESFJ Personality Type
ESFJ - Extroverted Sensing Feeling Judging
Archtypes: The Caregiver, The Supporter, The Helper
Secondary Functions: Fe, Si, Ne, Ti

ESFJs are friendly, outgoing, sympathetic people with a strong need to please and be liked by others. They are generous, loyal, traditional and value family and friends above everything else. People of this type usually enjoy doing volunteer work and are conscientious and hard-working. ESFJs have a well-defined value system which they will often try to teach to others, whether they want to know or not. The word 'should' shows up quite often in an ESFJs speech, and they can seem controlling. Because of their strong Feeling, ESFJs are often unable to analyze situations fairly and objectively, they tend to take things personally. ESFJs are very realistic and practical people, who have a hard time taking a joke or being teased. Once their feelings are hurt, an ESFJ may react drastically, even ending a long friendship. ESFJs are often involved with other's problems, but can become physically sick from over-burdening themselves with other people's problems.
Personal possessions are very important to ESFJs, who may spend much time looking at them and keeping them organized. ESFJs also enjoy exercise and physical activities such as sports or martial arts. They are comfortable with routine and dislike change. ESFJs see the world in absolutes, right or wrong, good or bad, because of this they seem judgmental. This is the most friendly and outgoing of all the types. They are usually polite and proper, and very physically demonstrative. They like to touch people for emphasis, like a pat on the back, or a hug. It is usually not difficult to read the emotion on an ESFJs face and their language will also reflect their beliefs and feelings.
ESFJs have a natural sense of community and enjoy being in groups. They are often busy helping people, volunteering, or being members in several clubs. They have a strong sense of how things should be, and work towards that goal. ESFJs seem motherly, and are often so concerned with other's feelings that they can neglect their own. ESFJs almost never participate in gossip because they do not want to spread bad rumors about people. They know how to listen, laugh, and have a gift for bringing out the best in others.

Fictional examples: Buzz Lightyear, SpongeBob Square Pants

ESFJ's are one of the most common types. I've met several.

"should" is one of mom's favorite words. She's also very touchy feely, and she still scolds me when I snap at her for forgetting that I loathe being touched, and scolds me when I (sometimes none too gently) tell others not to hug me or hit me on the back. Being an ESFJ's "project" can be very tiring, because they usually aren't done until you can convincingly pretend to be an ESFJ too, and keep it up as long as they are watching. I think my mom's mom may also be an ES_J of some kind although unhealthy. I'm not sure on T or F for her because I don't interact with her enough. I've never met an ESFJ man who I know well enough to type though. I wonder if they would inspire a burning desire in me to go hide under a rock as much as an ESFJ woman does.

I can relate to everything you've said and now I'm fairly convinced my mother was also ESFJ but could occassionally flip to N. Although a lot of times she never saw stuff coming. I warned her about not helping some people and twice she was totally had and I even warned her. Sigh.
You know, I've never met an ESFJ man either. All I have to go by for that are SpongeBob and Buzz. I love Buzz but I think he'd annoy me if he were real.

I think a man would hide it better if he was since the type description to me screams both "girly girl" and "mother hen." Except for the sporty part. Mom is competitive and sporty too, enough to get ugly sometimes, although maybe getting ugly during games is an E thing, because my ENTP brother does too. They are the ones who yell at the TV when the ref makes a bad call, or namecall (mostly mom) when we play table games.

Yeah, I think that's just an extroverted thing. My mother liked sports too. I want nothing to do with them. Hate them, boring. Don't care.

It's funny because an ESFJ is my complete psychological Opposite being an INTP. My aunt Lori is ESFJ and I get along with her more than any of my other aunts and uncles. However, as far as the way her and I view the world around us, come to conclusions, make decisions and react to happenings around us, we are NOT on the same planet. lol! We just happen to agree on most things.

That's very interesting. Yes I like your aunt too and I guess she's one of the few ESFJ's that plays well with NT's.
