Christmas Card List
I did it! I thought of an idea, drew it, inked it and colored it all in one day. Wow, I haven't done that in ages. It wasn't a difficult drawing but since I haven't actually finished anything to the end like this in months it's an accomplishment for me. So check out what's going out this year.

It's one of my favorite scenes from The White Seal movie right before a big wave takes him away. This is easily one of my all time favorite cartoons. I was watching it on youtube today when I realized, "Hey lots of these scenes could make good Christmas Cards!" And I've been meaning to do some fan art for quite a while now since I figured the seals are easy to draw. I actually drew another scene first to get used to the style and that was a disaster. I drew it again and it came out great. Then I drew this one. While drawing it I realized something amazing. I've always been a fan of Chuck Jone's art style. When he drew Looney Toons I think they looked the best. I'm so glad he drew The Grinch as well. Well the reason I like his very unique style so much is because it's very much like my style. I've always felt my art is unique and I've never really seen anything else out there that compares to my art until now. I think his art came easy to him because I just naturally draw like him. His art is realistic yet still cartoon and is very angular. There are angles and truns in the most unlikely places when you lay down a line and my art naturally has that complexity. So I'm very happy to say that my art is like Chuck Jone's art. I'm going to be drawing scenes from this video and putting them on Deviant Art. What's funny is that now with modern technology my drawings are actually better just because they are cleaned up.

Ok so here's the list of who's getting a card this year.

silvolf P
suzidragonlady P
xyndarella P
cheezey P
lorilynns7 P
wildoptic P
In laws - P
Oceania - P

I'll add more if I forgot anyone. If I've known you for a good while now and you'd like a card PM me your info.

Speaking of cleaned up, I do have a question for you artist. Perhaps one of you guys can help me. Suzi? I added textures to this drawing as you can see in the sand and very little on the hills in the back. But I got lucky. I don't remember how I added the texture like I did for my Deathclaw drawing on my profile. What I don't like is when you chose your layer, then go into filter and chose Texture > Grain that if you use normal, soft or clumped it adds like rainbow colors. I don't want colors added I just want the texture. Obviously I found a way around this when I made my Deathclaw drawing...but that was a whole year ago and I just found it on accident and I don't remember what I did. In this drawing since it was brown the colors weren't that noticeable and I got away with leaving them in. I also used this technique with my drawing of Cope in the Snow. That can't be done on white or blue. So how can I add texture in photoshop without getting those rainbows?

Remember the pumpkin I made this year? I sent an email to my friend Killer Pumpkins about it since it was his art I used. I loved this drawing of Batass Pumpkin as it's a pumpkin that's making a bat reflection. It was cool my pumpkin almost made that same reflection like his art. Well he really liked the pictures and is going to put them on his website. He made this collage.

His drawing is in the middle. Haha, it's funny that my can of baby bird food will make it onto his site too. And the bag of birdseed.

And in LJ news. Some of you may have noticed that LJ has screwed up the fonts on some journals and on the text boxes where you type. I hadn't noticed it because I have a custom CSS on mine for my layout. But earthmother45 pointed it out yesterday and then I did notice how bad it looks on other journals too. We shouldn't have to change the font in our styles. There's This thread in the news community about it. Gosh I hate how when someone reports something they shrug it off to being a cache problem. Never in my whole computer life has this ever been the issue. Eventually enough people said stuff to make them realize that YES LJ you screwed up the fonts with the last update. I left my two cents on how I've experienced the problem and why it's not a cache issue as I don't see the problem here but I see it on other journals hences it's on THIER end not ours. But so far it does seem to be an IE problem. So if you can't wait for them to fix it and it likely will be a good while use FireFox instead.

Aww that's an adorable card! The little white seal is appropriate for the time of year too. Now I just need to be on the beach with him lol! Need heat.

That's awesome about the pumpkin! It really looks great in that montage pic. I hadn't noticed that about LJ.

Thanks. I think it turned out nice for being rather simplistic. Yeah, I want a tropical Christmas and this weather isn't helping. What the Hell, Florida isn't supposed to get cold. :P

Yeah, I was glad he liked it so much.
Yeah I noticed it on your type box that it does it too.

Aww I love the card and I have vague memories of The White Seal from when I was a kid.

I totally understand and can relate to that feeling of inspiration and taking right off with it. It's like you block everything out and are so into your creation that nothing else matters. Good job! I'll be looking forward to getting mine.

And, thanks for investigating and taking some action on that font problem. You're the best!

Yeah, I love it when my projects go this quick which sadly is rare. Now I have to make the template for the other three sides, get ink and printing cards. Still a long way to go.

No prob. I hate it when things are broken and no one does anything about it or even knows anything.

Sorry for my late reply, life keeps me busy. We have the pure snow chaos now, aprox 50 cm of snow just everywhere. XD It looks nice but driving somewhere is hell.
If you want a grain like looking effect that is just black and white you should use "Noise" instead of "Grain" Filter (Filer->Noise->Add Noise) and then check "Monochromatic", then you have to look if "Uniform" or "Gaussian" fits better for what you would like to have.
That should do it. ;)

The Card looks cute, seals are sweet! I got mine printed and ready now and I will send them out next week. ;)

You're not late. You were probably sleeping when I posted this. It's cold everywhere now.
Ok thanks for that advice. I'll try that next time. I just wish I could remember how I made the textures before because I used grain and managed to make it the color of my original thing.

I'm glad you like it. This movie was great. Hopefully I can finish these up soon.

That's a cool card! Good for you. A white seal is perfect for Christmas.

That's cool that some of your stuff is going onto that other guy's site, too.

I was thinking today of the last chickens I had, and I remember now that they ignored their grain if they could be free ranging all day. Also, they were not fat because they had not been eating a high carbohydrate diet and being sedentary all day. So, hopefully, your chickens are fine.

Thanks. I'd love to send you one if you want to PM me your info or email me budgie_butts@yahoo.com

Yes, I'm so glad he likes my art since I admire his.

Yeah, so long as they are happy and healthy I guess it's ok if they are a bit skinny. Really nothing else is wrong with them. I guess I just like fat birds.

Aw, cute card! Thank you for including me on your list! I can use warm wishes... we have snow on the ground here now.

That's cool that your pumpkin will be immortalized on a website!

I always send you Christmas cards. Yeah, I've heard how it's snowing everywhere. Yikes.

Yeah, I'm glad about that.

That is so cute. I have a Christmas ornament that looks like it.

That pumpkin really does look like the drawing.

Thanks. I'm very happy with how it turned out. Cool. I like seal ornaments. I sort of collect them but not as much as budgies.

Yeah, I was so happy when I lit it up that it looked like his.
