I keep forgetting to mention, last time I was at Alex's house Kim let me use her laptop. It's one of those tablet laptops and I wanted to use it to see what it's like to draw with it. I have come to the realization that my little wacom tablet is a piece of crap. When you write with it it looks like a baby wrote it. Her's had the problem that you had to push REALLY hard on it. So I was holding the pen like a fist. BUT other than that I was actually quite impressed at how it wrote exactly where I wanted it to. Could it be that my art would vastly improve if I just had the right equipment? If there was a tablet out there that could write and draw exactly the way I do on paper with a pencil it would definitely be what I've always dreamt of. After using mine I kind of gave up on tablets saying, "Well I'm just a mouse artist." I wish I could find out without spending hundreds of dollars. I have a feeling that a high end tablet might be what I'm looking for. Or a high end tablet laptop. I don't know. It's hard enough finding a good regular small laptop.

Speaking of art, I opened the drawing of Thanatos in my new Illustrator. I have a bad feeling I have to redraw him and all my other ones I did in photoshop 7 completely from scratch. So I went on youtube and watched a bunch of illustrator tutorials. In the end I felt I wasted an hour and didn't accomplish anything because I didn't learn anything I didn't already know. So nothing got accomplished. Sigh, I think I need to bite the bullet and start over. There's no way around it. BUT the good thing about watching those tutorials, some by professional animators, was that it boosted my ego. I already know a lot and I'm self taught and I am good. But I'm lazy like all artists. I wish I could finish one drawing a day and a fully inked and colored drawing every other day or three days. Man I'd just rock if I could do that.

Chris's birthday is Friday. I'm very much looking forward to it as he's got the day off and I can give him his gifts.

I had something really weird happen. I'm a member of the Peeps Fan Club. I've been a member for years. I'm guessing since 2006. I get their newletter in my email every once in a while. I got one today and went to the website to check out the new chocolate covered pumpkin peep. I've never seen these in stores anywhere. I tried to log in and it wouldn't let me. What the? I tried over and over. I finally even asked for the password which I knew I was typing in right. Nothing. So I re-registered and got in with no problem with the same email, user name and password. That means they must have deleted my account for some stupid reason but I'm still on their mailing list. Why would that happen? I'm tempted to write and complain. I don't want to lose my long standing member status. Now I probably look like a newbie. Well, they do have cool new stuff on the web, even a page where you can kind of make a peep pet and make the background and add friends. I saved one of an explorer Peep on a Halloween background. So that's fun to play with.

Except for the moon and the mansion I put everything in there. The site is very interactive now and lots of fun. Oh and there was a slide show of the history of Peeps and this is the one they had for my favorite decade.

It's perfect and awesome!
Oh and I found out there's a Peeps and Company Store in Maryland. OMG, I want to go! There's a little youtube video on that page that showed a glass peep. I want it! Oh man!

EDIT: Oh how silly of me to forget! I closed the Character poll. Check out the results. Owen Marsh won again and just pulled it off at the end with a 6. Cope and Solan tied with a 4 and poor Davon and Thanatos didn't get any votes. The results were very interesting. I found it fascinating how many of you said that Thanatos or Davon were a close second. I also find it interesting how my art has influenced the votes. I was shocked how it seemd that Cope was stealing the show from the start then Solan tied him and then Owen just came out of nowhere. I draw those three the most, though I'm doing more with Thanatos and he was mentioned more for second choice and such. Thanks to those of you that participated.

Hmm, maybe you could go to a computer store and try out the tablet laptops there? I LOVE my HP tablet laptop, its one of the best things I've ever bought and enabled me to do digital commissions. I've earned several hundred dollars through it in all the time I've been using it altogether so for me, it is perfect. Since it is refurbished, the battery is starting to go but my friend says she has a thing that will recharge the battery, I am waiting for her to get it off a friend so she can lend it to me next.

Sometimes I'm a lazy artist but I can't afford to be when I am getting paid for art. I am a bit lazy with my own art at times though unless I see a real purpose for finishing something.

I hope Chris has a great birthday!

That's weird about the Peeps fanclub. I love the 80s Peep! I've finished all my Peeps except a few chocolate cats. I'm saving those and eating them slowly. I think I have four left.

Heheh congrats to Owen for winning again!

I've never seen a tablet laptop at a store. Only the tablets and they are in boxes you can't open. But I'm sure one of the newer ones you don't have to push with all your strength would be great. Yeah, I'm so glad you got that since your art did improve a lot. Hopefully you can get the battery fixed.

I don't mean for jobs, but all artists are lazy and cut corners. One of my favorite examples was on the Simpons where they're talking to an artist that makes Itchy and Scratchy and they want him to draw an ice cream cone. He goes, "Let's make it a pie. Pies are easier to draw." I got that joke right away and was cracking up about it. I'll do stuff like that too, or make a pose and hind something behind a tree so I don't have to draw the whole thing. That's what all artists do.

Yeah, why would they just delete my account? It was able to make it again with no problem. Saving the cats for Halloween? They're so yummy aren't they? I really want to go to that store. Hehe, now I want to go to D.C. not for the monuments but for the Peep store.

I knew Owen had a lot of fans but it surprised me how it looked like Cope would take it from the start. That would have been cool too as I love all my guys.

Oh yes the newer ones are fine. Mine is from 2006 I think. I've never had a problem with it.

Lol! I remember that episode.

Heheh yes I'm making the most of them because they're so delicious. Those and the strawberry hearts you sent me are yummy. I love all Peeps though.

In polls I've done, Silvolf always comes out on top.

I have a very light touch so I need it to work well and be kind of sensitive. When I draw I use skinny lead. I don't let others use my mechanical pencils because they break the leads.

I was on the peeps website and looking at some of the recipes. Some are easy like make hot chocolate with whip cream and put a cat or a pumpkin on top of it. You should check out thier site. I'll keep that in mind about the pink hearts.

That's cool. Probably because you use her as your name and make lots of drawings.

EDIT: Thought you might like to look at my friend Earthmother45's post she made. She took some pics of two little mantis in her yard.

It bugs me when people press too hard with pencils. My friend Neo knows how to use them but I don't think I'd let my friend Kat borrow one lol! When I was little, I would press hard.

I actually put a Peep in hot chocolate back when you first sent me some lol! I also froze one, it defrosted really fast, and I left one out in my lounge to see if it would go hard. It went a bit harder but not much.

Yes! Riktus and AvistA were runners up. And I draw them a lot too.

Those are some cool pics your friend took. I left her a comment.
Desthagirion on October 27th, 2010 09:18 pm (UTC)
Me too. Why do people need to press so hard? It doesn't do anything. The pencil won't write more if you press hard. Chris presses too hard. He's not allowed to touch my drawing pencils.

I remember all your experiments. That was funny. It's fun to play with them.

Yeah, I think the more they see them the more they think about them. So yes, must give Thanatos and Davon more attention then.

Great, I think she'll like that. And I thought of you when I saw them.

I thought Wacom tablets were THE tablet. I got one for my son for one of his birthdays. It was better than using a mouse. Wacoms are supposed to respond to pressure, and have brush settings etc. My son seemed to do some decent art on it. I agree with Silvolf, it would be good to go to a computer store and try different ones out to see which works the best for you.

Happy birthday to Chris for Friday! I hope you guys have a very nice day :)

I think you should complain to the Peep company, because you want to hang on to your long standing member status, because they probably will have some awesome deals for you guys at some time or another. Chocolate covered pumpkin peeps sound yummy! I love that Halloween background and all the things you have put on there. It must be so much fun that it's interactive.

Waiiit...didn't the Rubic Cube take off in the 70s? No, hmmm...I remeber it boing around in about 1980 :)

I think Intuios (sp?) are the best ones that animators use. Mine was a free used one that didn't have any CD with it. There aren't any tablet laptops in the stores here and as for the tablets themselves they're in boxes you can't open until you buy them.

I hope it will be a fun day.

Yeah, I may write them and let them know what happened. But I'm having fun playing on all their interactive stuff.

Nope, Ruick's Cube was an 80's thing for sure. I remember being in first grade and it coming out for the first time. Everyone had one. It was very early 80's though and is one of the symbols of the 80's.
kabuldurkabuldur on October 28th, 2010 10:56 am (UTC)
Yeah, I was talking about a tablet you plug into a computer. Hope you get an intuios one day. I don't want to argue with you, but Gyro says it is a Wacom. I have no idea about these things personally :)

Also, I'll take your word on the Rubik cube. I remember them being very popular among young adults, of which I was one :) Not that I like Rubik cubes, but lots of my friends did.

Now, to get them to come out right, you remove the stickers and place in the right places :P

I think a nicer tablet does make a difference. The one I got recently is more user-friendly than my old one was. It still takes some getting used to, but I think the higher end ones feel much more natural.

Yeah, I'm really willing to give it a second chance.

I found the chocolate covered pumpkin Peeps at Walgreens. I also saw them somewhere else too, but I don't remember where. Glass Peep? I need to watch that video.
Des: Peep Heartthagirion on October 27th, 2010 05:56 pm (UTC)
Cool. I'm going to have to look again then. Yes, I want that glass peep. I looked on Ebay and there weren't any.

They do have some very nice wallpapers now. They took down the user icons so I'm glad I saved them when I did. Some I can't access as they are broken links.
No, I didn't get it. It's not even in my spambox. My email is budgie_butt at yahoo dot com

Me too. Looking forward to it. Almost a Halloween birthday.

OOps actually I spelled it wrong. It's budgie_butts. I sent you one too. Oh good glad yours made it. I'll just send you a generic email so you have my address again.
